Around SBN: Fighters React to Nick Diaz's Positive Drug Test

College Football 11/01

One goal and one goal only today. See those dirty dirt people from Lubbock finally go down and have UT kill the dream.

I hate Lubbock with a passion so great that I have had trouble going to the bathroom for the past few days thinking about this game.

Also not a big deal because KU's season is over already, but rivalry game against K-state today.

Florida and Georgia will tangle and hopefully a few fights will break out since they are playing up Georgia running onto the field last year, will watch just for that.

I hate Texas, but I hate Tech more. An enemy of your enemy is your friend, Hook Em.

I don't get how some people actually think Texas is going to lose

they have dominated every opponent except for OK state and that was because Colt made a few dumb decisions

by Save us on Nov 1, 2008 1:37 PM CDT reply actions

I think Texas will win

However, they do have a pretty craptacular pass defense so Tech will put up a ton of points. I can see why people give Tech a good chance.

Kanasas?

With their now 61st ranked schedule?

Tech really hasn’t played anyone, just like Texas hadn’t before the Tex-OU game to start their killer 4 game stretch.

Tech has played

E. Washington 139
Nevada 81
SMU 142
Mass 105
Nebraska 29
A&M 95
Kansas 61

Once again, It is very hard to get a real read on TT because so far, they have played a soft schedule…

Dez is averaging almost 20 yards a catch...

And matching Crabtree’s stats in an offense that throws less than half of what Tech does… And Dez is a big-time punt returner…

Dez is faster and more athletic than Michael Crabtree… I honestly do not see how that’s debatable… Mike’s running mid 4.5s… He’s not fast.

I am not saying he sucks

What I am saying is that if you are the best receiver in the country, you have to come up big in your team’s biggest game of the year. He wasn’t triple covered all game. He was doubled, but if he is the best in the country, he has to be able to get open.

So we can single cover the receivers and Crabtree can break one 85 yards for a TD? Blitzing doesn’t do any good since Harrell gets rid of the ball in about 2 seconds.

by uthornfan on Nov 1, 2008 8:13 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm not surprised Tech has 19 points

Texas has a young secondary and I knew Tech would throw on the Horns. What shocks me is that an offense that has been unstoppable all year is stopping itself. Tech’s defense hasn’t had to make any plays yet since the UT receivers are dropping everything thrown to them. I know it is obviously, but if Shipley makes that catch and makes the game 7-5, the Tech fans are taken out of the game and Texas has all the momentum. Instead he drops it and next thing you know it is a three touchdown game.

These are the same horrible officials from the Texas/OU game

in that game they didn’t favor one team or the other, but they made horrible calls to kill both teams all day long. Tonight they are letting Tech get away with holds on every play (especially No. 67). Not saying that is why Tech is winning or making any excuses, but it is hard to get any pressure when you are being held.

Did you attend the Trinity game Steve?

The first half was close and competitive. I thought it was going to come down to the wire, especially since Millsaps’ D-line is much much smaller than those fatasses that you had to block.

Then I come back from halftime, we’re down 35-17 and it’s downhill from there.

by inactive lsb user on Nov 2, 2008 2:11 AM CDT up reply actions

yes i did

down 15 at about 13 left in the 4th quarter and the pick in the endozone was what cost the game. That basically turned what i thought would be an 8 point game into a 22 point game in a sapn of 33 seconds. And yes, the millsaps d-line was much less than that of the last two years. Since 2004 Trinity has lost 8 games. This one and last year’s UMHB game are the only two that i’m convinced the Tigers lost to a better team. It’s disappointing, but to me, this is better than losing to Rhodes or TLU

exploding highfive

by sarnold on Nov 2, 2008 3:36 AM CDT up reply actions

Definitely

By the end of this game, I was also convinced that Millsaps was simply a more talented football team.

Juan Joseph was unstoppable. Too bad Baron didn’t actually kill him with that hit 3 years ago.

At times, I honestly felt like their QB was just waiting for coverage to break down, so he could keep the ball in his hands and break contain. Then when we focused on him, he hit us over the top.

Their speed killed us — it’s not like they won the line of scrimmage. It’s just that whenever we did flush Joseph (Smith and Ray had sacks IIRC), he was able to make positive plays. Credit to him and their coach.

by inactive lsb user on Nov 2, 2008 3:42 AM CDT up reply actions

yea

good point about baron actually killing him… would have saved us a lot of trouble. Wasn’t as impressed with is throwing skills as i was with his knowledge as to when to run and where. That was killer. But i sill think he’s overrated, he missed quite a few throws and open recievers fall to catch the ball. I guess that’s just a testament to how good thier offence is.

What a dissapointing way to end a 13 year streak

Storming the field/court is stupid in ANY situation.

It used to be cool, way before “Cool” in sports died. Everything is so planned out now, and is done only for reaction instead of actual celebration.

I read an article in SI last year that said “cool” died when Kevin Garnett screamed out “Anything is possible!” at the end of the Finals last year. Cool died WAY before that. Thoughts? Discuss.

by cmkelly29 on Nov 1, 2008 10:58 PM CDT up reply actions

i agree

storming the field is stupid. and my point was that the players spent a lot of time and effort preparing for this game, not to mention the time and effort spent the whole year. For these people to run onto the field acting like they accomplished something ruins the celebration the players could have had by themselves, with the other guys they spent all that time and effort with. Not to mention, those people are completly disrespecting the opposing teams players by getting into their faces and whatnot.

In the Fremeau Efficiency Index, for the last several weeks, WSU has been ranked as the third worst team in the country.

But that was okay, because Idaho was 119 and North Texas was 120.

. . . but then Idaho won last week, after WSU got shut out for the first time in 25 years.

Top 12 in the BCS...

Guarantees a bid, I thought…

by N41D on Nov 1, 2008 11:57 PM CDT up reply actions

There could easily be three non-BCS teams this year.

A non-BCS team gets an auto-bid if they are in the top 12 and win their conference. Utah and BSU are both in the top 12.

A non-BCS gets an auto-bid if they are top 16, win their conference, and are higher ranked than a BCS auto-bid. TCU and Ball State are both in the top 16, and no Big East team really has much of a chance at making it that high (and the highest ACC team, #15 FSU, lost today, also).

Obviously TCU and Utah can’t both go, but if Ball State, Boise State and Utah/TCU all win out, there will almost certainly be THREE non-BCS schools in the big games this year.

by philkid3 on Nov 2, 2008 12:45 AM CDT up reply actions

Wait, I mis-read the wording.

No more than one non-BCS school can get an auto-bid. I thought it was no more than one from the same conference.

So, n/m. It’s likely we’ll still only have a one, but there is a decent chance for two and an outside shot for three still.
