College Football 11/01
One goal and one goal only today. See those dirty dirt people from Lubbock finally go down and have UT kill the dream.
I hate Lubbock with a passion so great that I have had trouble going to the bathroom for the past few days thinking about this game.
Also not a big deal because KU's season is over already, but rivalry game against K-state today.
Florida and Georgia will tangle and hopefully a few fights will break out since they are playing up Georgia running onto the field last year, will watch just for that.
I hate Texas, but I hate Tech more. An enemy of your enemy is your friend, Hook Em.

I don't get how some people actually think Texas is going to lose
they have dominated every opponent except for OK state and that was because Colt made a few dumb decisions
I think Texas will win
However, they do have a pretty craptacular pass defense so Tech will put up a ton of points. I can see why people give Tech a good chance.

Concur...
especially with the game being @ Tech.

Tech stregnth of schedual this year,,,,
91st in the nation, up from last weeks 114…
I am waiting to see how Tech reacts to finally playing some body
Kanasas?
With their now 61st ranked schedule?
Tech really hasn’t played anyone, just like Texas hadn’t before the Tex-OU game to start their killer 4 game stretch.
Tech has played
E. Washington 139
Nevada 81
SMU 142
Mass 105
Nebraska 29
A&M 95
Kansas 61
Once again, It is very hard to get a real read on TT because so far, they have played a soft schedule…
Wow...
End of the Norwestern/Minnestota game and Minn is trying to get into FG range with the game tied at 17 and NW picks it off and runs it all the way back for the TD with 16 seconds left.

This year at least.
Michigan and Kansas are both sucking it up this year, and UT and USC are top 5, not a fun college football season.
I'm sorry my parents never had me sarcamsized.
Great year in college football...
from my point of view. The MWC is finally getting a little love and the Big East and the ACC look like poo.
Anyone think the BCS would like to have the 2 automatic bids from those confrences back?

Dez Bryant is the best receiver in college football...
And I’m not sure it’s close…

There's nothing Michael Crabtree can do...
That Dez Bryant can’t…
Dez is faster, got better hands, he’s more athletic…
Disagree
That he’s faster, has better hands, or even more athletic.

Then you haven't been watching...
There’s absolutely no question he’s faster and more athletic…

and I have been watching plenty. They are both great but Crabtree gets the slight edge imo as well.
Crabtree is every bit as fast and athletic and Bryant.

I have watched just about every Tech and OSU game this year
and I do not think Dez Bryant is OBVIOUSLY better than Crabtree. It’s possible, and all I said is that Crabtree would be in the discussion.

I’ve seen Dez Bryant in person against UT as well as Crabtree.
Crabtree is a fucking beast and I also disagree that Bryant is better in any facet.

Dez is averaging almost 20 yards a catch...
And matching Crabtree’s stats in an offense that throws less than half of what Tech does… And Dez is a big-time punt returner…

Dez is faster and more athletic than Michael Crabtree… I honestly do not see how that’s debatable… Mike’s running mid 4.5s… He’s not fast.
I see how it's debatable

And don't get me wrong...
I like Michael Crabtree A LOT…
But Dez Bryant is out there on another level… We’re talkin Larry Fitzgerald domination…
He did nothing against Texas last week
When his team needed him, he couldn’t get open on a bunch of underclassmen in the Texas secondary.
Nevermind he was hurt...
And they shaded three guys his way the entire game…
And is Dez's 6 for 74 against Texas...
Really any different than what Mike did against Texas A&M or Nebraska, sans the fact he scored? Mike wasn’t exactly dominate in either of those games…
I am not saying he sucks
What I am saying is that if you are the best receiver in the country, you have to come up big in your team’s biggest game of the year. He wasn’t triple covered all game. He was doubled, but if he is the best in the country, he has to be able to get open.
Worst
decision ever made in sports. Charlie Weis goes for it on 4th and long 1 on ND’s own 48 yard line in a tie ball game with 40s left in the game. And, on top of that, they don’t even run the ball to get the first, they try and go deep….
I like Charlie, but this is one of his worst coached games. Also, Mike Haywood, his OC, sucks….
"He wants to double the capital gains tax, or almost double it," Huizenga said. "I'd rather give it to charity than to him."
Charlie Weis is awful...

I guess the refs aren't calling holding tonight
He spun him all the way around.
Why would they not shade him...
The same way they did Dez last week? If the other receivers beat you, you’ve gotta be OK with that don’t you?
There’s no way in hell I’d let Michael Crabtree beat me…
Yep
Earl Thomas was over the top on one play, but he slipped and fell down. Texas’ two safeties are both freshmen and make some big plays, but they play like freshmen every once in a while as well.
And I'd tell Curtis Brown to follow him around...
on every single play…
Deon Beasley is too damn little… He can’t keep up. They’ll just keep throwing jump balls or throwing behind Mike and Beasley isn’t long enough or athletic enough to make plays on them…
That was a huge stop for Texas
as bad as things have gone so far, it is only 5-0.
I don't think McCoy got that
but he got a hell of a spot.

What a horrible playcall
QB draw on third and 2. Greg Davis is back to his 2002-04 OU playbook.
This looks like a Mack Brown coached team...
From the pre-Vince Young era…
Awful so far.
They are scared
Instead of taking a risk and maybe making a play, the offense has gone into a shell and is playing it too conservatively. If Texas doesn’t stop Tech here, it may not matter how the UT offense plays the rest of the game.
UT's linebackers
are non-existent. They have been good this year, but they haven’t even made a tackle tonight, let alone a big play.
Touchdown here and the game is probably over
Field goal and the Horns are still in it.
Curtis Brown, you are officially getting torched
Beasley leaves with an injury and they decide to pick on Brown every down.
FUCKING BLITZ!!
"He wants to double the capital gains tax, or almost double it," Huizenga said. "I'd rather give it to charity than to him."
I'm not surprised Tech has 19 points
Texas has a young secondary and I knew Tech would throw on the Horns. What shocks me is that an offense that has been unstoppable all year is stopping itself. Tech’s defense hasn’t had to make any plays yet since the UT receivers are dropping everything thrown to them. I know it is obviously, but if Shipley makes that catch and makes the game 7-5, the Tech fans are taken out of the game and Texas has all the momentum. Instead he drops it and next thing you know it is a three touchdown game.
it could be 23-0
If that Raider hadn’t dropped that pass in the endzone.
A bunch of midgets with no arms could pitch better than us. -iorange555
Yep
If you miss it Tech is guaranteed a touchdown. All punting does is make them go 80 yards instead of 45.
forgot to add
That they are going to score a touchdown regardless.
McCoy was late getting that throw out
This could be Florida-Georgia part 2.
That was a block in the back on that screen
I am not asking for the refs to call the game in favor of Texas, but something is fishy when one of the most penalized teams in the nation goes the first quarter with no calls against them. Still, with the way Texas is playing it may not matter.
To who?
If you mean throw it away, I agree. But the Texas receivers aren’t getting open.
I agree with you
I don’t think he ever saw the defender.
Nice kick-off. Only about the 5th time he has done that this year.
There goes any chance of forcing a three-and-out and having good field position.
Anyone seen Norton, Muckleroy or Bobino tonight?
They never seem to be in the picture when the tackle is made.
Good lord...
Tech running it down their throats to boot…
Tech's points don't bother me
I expected them to score at least 38 points for the game. But UT’s offense needs to get their shit together.
Put in Fozzy.
More minus yardage plays
If Texas can score here (it will take a miracle), they are fine. They get the ball first to start the second half and a score there and it is almost tied.
More drops
They haven’t dropped this many passes all season.
Well, that penalty kills any chance of a touchdown
just when the offense was starting to get going.
Finally, someone stepped up and made a play
Only took 29 minutes
Looks like they are going to
get 3 points out of that drive.
A bunch of midgets with no arms could pitch better than us. -iorange555
I almost think they should go for it

But it is still a two touchdown game
Tech had just about everything go right for them and Texas had nothing go right, and it is still not a blow out. I think the chances of Texas coming back and winning are about 20 percent, but at least they have a chance.
That's not exactly accurate
Texas shot themselves in the foot several times with dropped passes and penalties.
Yep
Shipley dropped a sure touchdown. Which was one of about five passes that hit the WR right in the hands.

A TD here and Texas is right back in it.
There were only about five block in the backs on that return
luckily they can only accept one of them.
Well, maybe it wasn't a block in the back
The one I thought was obvious was right after Shipley caught it. I hope we get a better replay.
If UT had one more Shipley
UT would be up by 40 points. This team desperately needs another receiver or at least a solid run game.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Now they call a hold (would be nice if they called any of the 15 that Tech has committed tonight)
and then a nice pick six. Well there went all the momentum.
Sounds like sour grapes.

Nope
Did you see the Orakpo injury? He was held around the neck, spun around and taken down and injured. The official was five yards away and did nothing. Then Ulatoski doesn’t hold at all, and he is flagged. Just want the holds called both ways.
These are the same horrible officials from the Texas/OU game
in that game they didn’t favor one team or the other, but they made horrible calls to kill both teams all day long. Tonight they are letting Tech get away with holds on every play (especially No. 67). Not saying that is why Tech is winning or making any excuses, but it is hard to get any pressure when you are being held.

gotta go for 2 there…my guess is they were caught up in the excitement and werent thinking straight.
Lots of mistakes were made by Texas
but Gideon’s cost the team the game. There is a lot of blame to go around, but he blew it.
They're going to get another flag when UT fair catches this
and the fans storm the field again.

This game
makes up for the stars being so trash
I don't think I've seen a better game this year.
I thought Tech was going to win easily, I’m glad I was wrong. For the sake of entertainment.
I think I may have overrated Tech and underrated Texas a little.
Game.
Get yer Guns up!
Fire Todd Dodge. Seriously. But in the mean time, SUCK IT WESTERN KENTUCKY! 1-8 baby!
Ok
since your a fellow unt student of mine, your not allowed to say that….besides our team is white hot right now

You're right
I take it back. Got caught up in the heat of the moment. Better quote-

Fire Todd Dodge. Seriously. But in the mean time, SUCK IT WESTERN KENTUCKY! 1-8 baby!
tech will lose 2 more games
and Texas will still go to the big 12
no biggie. Atleast OU won’t be there…

Maybe not
but they will be ranked higher and they still have a chance to get to the NC now.
A bunch of midgets with no arms could pitch better than us. -iorange555
who?
OU will not pass Texas.
"He wants to double the capital gains tax, or almost double it," Huizenga said. "I'd rather give it to charity than to him."
I bet when the BCS
Poll comes out the Sooners will be ranked higher than the Horns.
A bunch of midgets with no arms could pitch better than us. -iorange555
You don't think
Texas will drop below the Sooners?
A bunch of midgets with no arms could pitch better than us. -iorange555
why would they?
"He wants to double the capital gains tax, or almost double it," Huizenga said. "I'd rather give it to charity than to him."
Where do you think UT will be ranked...
…when the new polls come out?
by Adam J. Morris on Nov 1, 2008 10:57 PM CDT up reply actions
common sense would say
they should be the 1st of the one loss teams.
"He wants to double the capital gains tax, or almost double it," Huizenga said. "I'd rather give it to charity than to him."
So the Sooners are
going to drop in the polls after a win and a Texas loss? I think not.
A bunch of midgets with no arms could pitch better than us. -iorange555
it does'nt matter
they won’t get to the big 12 championship…so we will be ahead in the end.
"He wants to double the capital gains tax, or almost double it," Huizenga said. "I'd rather give it to charity than to him."
Well, they could
Presumably, Tech gets jumped up ahead of OU now. It is just a question of how far UT drops.
by Adam J. Morris on Nov 1, 2008 11:02 PM CDT up reply actions
We will see
Florida was ranked 4 spots lower than the Sooners.
A bunch of midgets with no arms could pitch better than us. -iorange555
On second thought. . .
I don’t think Texas will drop that far, but I still think Florida and Texas are in the top 5.
who did OU lose to?
"He wants to double the capital gains tax, or almost double it," Huizenga said. "I'd rather give it to charity than to him."
Ok Tech was ranked
lower than Texas was when they beat OU so I guess Texas lost to a lesser team so that would drop them lower than OU using your logic.
A bunch of midgets with no arms could pitch better than us. -iorange555
Tech should be ranked
ahead of Texas then.
A bunch of midgets with no arms could pitch better than us. -iorange555
did i say they shouldn't be?
"He wants to double the capital gains tax, or almost double it," Huizenga said. "I'd rather give it to charity than to him."
It isn't who you lose to, it is when you lose
a loss in October doesn’t hurt as much as a loss in November. Texas will be behind OU.
doens't make sense then.
"He wants to double the capital gains tax, or almost double it," Huizenga said. "I'd rather give it to charity than to him."
I didn't say it made sense
but that is the way it is, and the way it always has been.
Texas jumped all teh way to 1 after the beat OU
why can’t other teams dropped like they did then…
"He wants to double the capital gains tax, or almost double it," Huizenga said. "I'd rather give it to charity than to him."
Gratz to tech

Did you attend the Trinity game Steve?
The first half was close and competitive. I thought it was going to come down to the wire, especially since Millsaps’ D-line is much much smaller than those fatasses that you had to block.
Then I come back from halftime, we’re down 35-17 and it’s downhill from there.

yes i did
down 15 at about 13 left in the 4th quarter and the pick in the endozone was what cost the game. That basically turned what i thought would be an 8 point game into a 22 point game in a sapn of 33 seconds. And yes, the millsaps d-line was much less than that of the last two years. Since 2004 Trinity has lost 8 games. This one and last year’s UMHB game are the only two that i’m convinced the Tigers lost to a better team. It’s disappointing, but to me, this is better than losing to Rhodes or TLU
exploding highfive
Definitely
By the end of this game, I was also convinced that Millsaps was simply a more talented football team.
Juan Joseph was unstoppable. Too bad Baron didn’t actually kill him with that hit 3 years ago.
At times, I honestly felt like their QB was just waiting for coverage to break down, so he could keep the ball in his hands and break contain. Then when we focused on him, he hit us over the top.
Their speed killed us — it’s not like they won the line of scrimmage. It’s just that whenever we did flush Joseph (Smith and Ray had sacks IIRC), he was able to make positive plays. Credit to him and their coach.

yea
good point about baron actually killing him… would have saved us a lot of trouble. Wasn’t as impressed with is throwing skills as i was with his knowledge as to when to run and where. That was killer. But i sill think he’s overrated, he missed quite a few throws and open recievers fall to catch the ball. I guess that’s just a testament to how good thier offence is.
What a dissapointing way to end a 13 year streak
exploding highfive
Yep
his running was the x-factor. His throwing is overrated, you’re right about that.

but it doesn't mean anything for OU
"He wants to double the capital gains tax, or almost double it," Huizenga said. "I'd rather give it to charity than to him."
It does in the polls
You really think the Horns will be ranked ahead of the Sooners Sunday?
A bunch of midgets with no arms could pitch better than us. -iorange555
and if i'm playing for tech
then these idiots storming the field really piss me off. They didn’t do a damn thing
exploding highfive
Storming the field/court is stupid in ANY situation.
It used to be cool, way before “Cool” in sports died. Everything is so planned out now, and is done only for reaction instead of actual celebration.
I read an article in SI last year that said “cool” died when Kevin Garnett screamed out “Anything is possible!” at the end of the Finals last year. Cool died WAY before that. Thoughts? Discuss.
i agree
storming the field is stupid. and my point was that the players spent a lot of time and effort preparing for this game, not to mention the time and effort spent the whole year. For these people to run onto the field acting like they accomplished something ruins the celebration the players could have had by themselves, with the other guys they spent all that time and effort with. Not to mention, those people are completly disrespecting the opposing teams players by getting into their faces and whatnot.
exploding highfive
haha
i played small time college football, so i have a slightly different prospective on these things. Never refered to the team i played for as “we” until i started for it. Even then, as an o-lineman, i had trouble refering to the skill players as we
exploding highfive
Seriously
How does OU jump Texas…that doesn’t make any sense at all…
"He wants to double the capital gains tax, or almost double it," Huizenga said. "I'd rather give it to charity than to him."
my rankings
1. Alabama
2. Tech
3. Florida
4. Penn State
5. Texas
6. OU
7. Ok State
exploding highfive
So the Sooners fall
2 spots even though they won? Please.
A bunch of midgets with no arms could pitch better than us. -iorange555
CRAP
i was trying to go by who beat who. But i look at the current rankings and mine doesn’t seem fair at all. But as far as the Big XII south goes, things will get sorted out a little bit better than for 1 loss teams in the next 3 weeks
exploding highfive
UT should still be in the national chamionship
we have beat 3 top 11 teams and two of them were in the top 3. While other teams have beat one team in the top 10 but still have one loss. right now, UT should be at the least #3.
Well if Texas had won
there would be no doubt but the Horns couldn’t take care of business.
A bunch of midgets with no arms could pitch better than us. -iorange555
OU got dominated on a neutral field by Texas
if Texas drops past OU when they lose in the last second to what should now be a number 2 team, that’s just pathetic…
"He wants to double the capital gains tax, or almost double it," Huizenga said. "I'd rather give it to charity than to him."
Sooners did not get dominated
Texas won the game but they did not dominate.
A bunch of midgets with no arms could pitch better than us. -iorange555
yeah they did
and it could have been worse…
"He wants to double the capital gains tax, or almost double it," Huizenga said. "I'd rather give it to charity than to him."
lol
The Sooners won the first half and the Horns won the second half. It was far from domination.
A bunch of midgets with no arms could pitch better than us. -iorange555
Ok so now the Horns should be #2?
Sooners dropped 4 spots when Texas beat them andTexas was ranked 5th. Tech was ranked 6th and you think the Horns should only drop to #2? I think Bama has something to say about that. Go to bed.
A bunch of midgets with no arms could pitch better than us. -iorange555
OU hasnt dominated Missouri # 11, beat the #1 team and beat the #7 team.
and in our loss we were 1 catch away from a win while OU was 10 points or more away
Again, doesn't matter.
He who loses last loses the most. Texas just slipped to third in the South pecking order.
"One man, five scoops." -- shroomer
It doesn't matter
they’ll settle it in the playoffs. Oh wait….
Fire Todd Dodge. Seriously. But in the mean time, SUCK IT WESTERN KENTUCKY! 1-8 baby!
Ok lets say
The Sooners go on and beat Tech and OSU. Since Tech beat Texas and Texas beat the Sooners does that mean the Sooners should still be behind Texas in the polls?
A bunch of midgets with no arms could pitch better than us. -iorange555
i still think that you look at head-to-head rather than
Team A beat team B and Team B beat Team C so Team A is better than Team C
so no, i still think Texas should be ahead of them unless Texas loses again
You can't have it that way
If the Sooners beat Tech by your logic the Sooner would be ahead of Tech and Tech ahead of Texas because Texas couldn’t be ahead of Tech because they lost to them.
Playoffs there needs to be a playoff.
A bunch of midgets with no arms could pitch better than us. -iorange555
so if a team beats a team they are ahead of them?
soo Texas is ahead of OU.
and yes, PLAYOFFS
i can't believe he dropped that ball
"He wants to double the capital gains tax, or almost double it," Huizenga said. "I'd rather give it to charity than to him."
OU will be ahead of Texas in the polls, I think
But that won’t matter, as long as Tech picks up two loses. Texas will still go to the conference title game.
If you are going to lose
get it out of the way early.
A bunch of midgets with no arms could pitch better than us. -iorange555
Exactly.
OU, USC and Florida aren’t just in this thing; they’re currently ahead of Texas.
"One man, five scoops." -- shroomer
And USC's only loss
was to an unranked team.
A bunch of midgets with no arms could pitch better than us. -iorange555
lol and they have beat one ranked team?
this stuff is getting pretty ridiculous, its time for college football to get their head out of their asses and start a playoff system
I meantioned this is the AM thread. . .
But I went to WSU. My younger brother goes to Idaho. My older brother went to North Texas.
In the Fremeau Efficiency Index, for the last several weeks, WSU has been ranked as the third worst team in the country.
But that was okay, because Idaho was 119 and North Texas was 120.
. . . but then Idaho won last week, after WSU got shut out for the first time in 25 years.
. . . then North Texas won this week and WSU got shut out again, this time by STANFORD.
I. . . I have nothing left. . .

TCU in BCS?
TCU won by 30 points today against UNLV. They play a huge game at Utah next week. If they win out shouldn’t they be there? Boise State is a joke and I’ll be pissed off if they make it to the BCS and TCU doesn’t.
Nah...
…like it or not, a non-BCS conference team really needs to go undefeated to make the BCS. That’s why I’m a little sad that Tulsa lost today.
"One man, five scoops." -- shroomer
Top 12 in the BCS...
Guarantees a bid, I thought…
There could easily be three non-BCS teams this year.
A non-BCS team gets an auto-bid if they are in the top 12 and win their conference. Utah and BSU are both in the top 12.
A non-BCS gets an auto-bid if they are top 16, win their conference, and are higher ranked than a BCS auto-bid. TCU and Ball State are both in the top 16, and no Big East team really has much of a chance at making it that high (and the highest ACC team, #15 FSU, lost today, also).
Obviously TCU and Utah can’t both go, but if Ball State, Boise State and Utah/TCU all win out, there will almost certainly be THREE non-BCS schools in the big games this year.
Wait, I mis-read the wording.
No more than one non-BCS school can get an auto-bid. I thought it was no more than one from the same conference.
So, n/m. It’s likely we’ll still only have a one, but there is a decent chance for two and an outside shot for three still.
TCU
TCU had the guts to play OU. Boise State plays a bunch of crappy teams. The people from the Sugar Bowl was at TCU game last week.
TCU should be in the Big XII
Not Baylor
A bunch of midgets with no arms could pitch better than us. -iorange555
I had that same conversation today.
Only I think it should be Arkansas, not TCU.
"One man, five scoops." -- shroomer
I hadn't though of them
But you could make a case for them also.

Don't matter.
Not saying I don’t agree with you; but that’s the world we live in.

If TCU wins next week they would have beaten two teams that were ranked in the top ten.

Top 10 guesses??
Alabama
Penn State
Texas Tech
Texas
Oklahoma
Florida
USC
Oklahoma State
Utah
Boise State
That's awful generous to Texas.
And awful unfair to Oklahoma and Florida.
"One man, five scoops." -- shroomer
To clarify...
…I say:
Bama
Penn State
Tech
Florida
OU
Texas
USC
OK St.
"One man, five scoops." -- shroomer
How is that unfair to Oklahoma?
They lost to Texas… Why should they be ranked ahead of them?
Florida I can see the argument for, but I just don’t see how you justify Oklahoma being ahead of Texas… Ranking teams based on when they lost is retarded.
+1
if i could, i would change so many things about college football
There is no perfect system
There needs to be a playoff.
A bunch of midgets with no arms could pitch better than us. -iorange555
All that
And Tech is going to lose to OSU for sure and prolly OU, and Texas is going to win their division and the conference title game and play for the national title against Penn St as a 1 loss team, because Bama is not getting through the SEC undefeated.
It’ll prolly come down to whether you think Florida or Texas is better as a 1 loss team.
Meanwhile the Canes have won 4 in a row. And it’s a shame we didn’t win against Florida or FSU, because we could have won both those.
Hey, there you are!
Thanks for crawling out the cave this morning.
