Longoria gets AL ROY
I didn't see this posted anywhere, but Longoria won the AL ROY. Was Davis not eligible in the voting or something? I was a bit surprised that he got no votes at all. Anybody have anything? I don't really think he should have won over Longoria, but surely his season merited some consideration. He won't be a rookie again next season will he? I'm a little confused.
P.S. This post length rule sucks, Adam.

Davis
Did he not get any votes at all or just no 1st place votes?
I would think he would get at least some 2nd or 3rd place votes

Just looked it up
He got zero votes period and Denard Span received 3 votes. How does that happen?

It's alright
Volquez got a bunch of votes in the NL – enough for fourth place – even though he wasn’t eligible, and his spot in the standings apparently will stand.

Yeah
I just don’t understand how the BBWAA voters can be so stupid.

I'm somewhat surprised by that
But I think we already knew how clueless a lot of those guys are. What I find frightening is that whoever counted the votes included and reported his.

I think
it’s pretty clear that any awards given by the writers should pretty much be looked at as a joke. It’s not even worth getting riled up about.

It's not like managers and player do any better.
I don’t have a problem with reporters doing the voting, I just don’t want the BBWAA doing it. Any writer that submitted Volquez’s name should be kicked out for lack or research.

Was Davis eligible, Z?
That’s what I don’t get.

Then I am at a loss.
Davis had a 129 OPS+ to Longoria’s 125. I understand that Longoria’s sample size is bigger, but I don’t see how in the hell Davis doesn’t even get a vote.

+1
My next question would be, who does the voting? I can only guess Davis didn’t get as much exposure as some of the other condidates – but then again Mike Aviles got 9 votes, so maybe that’s not it.
Just say no to Scott Olsen.

David Murphy
didn’t get a vote either. Just shows that the writers are dumb. I think they prove that quite often. They will probably prove it in a few days by giving Ryan Howard the NL MVP over Pujols.
What I don’t get is why none of our local guys who vote, like Galloway or TR Sullivan, didn’t give Murphy or Davis at least a pity vote. Doesn’t matter I guess. When we look back I would imagine that Davis will looked upon along with Longoria as the best of the group of rookies from this season.

Sucks ass.
I guess you’d have to give it to Longoria since he spent more time up, but CD not getting a vote doesn’t really work…

longoria also has the good defensive reputation to go on.
longoria over davis was really clear, though yes obviously I think davis should have at least shown up somewhere on the ballots.
the preceding post was a great success.

Davis
He was 5th among A.L. rookie positional players in VORP. Longoria, Aviles, and Ramirez were all a fair ways ahead of him.
There were 11 A.L. pitchers ahead of Davis in VORP, as well.
Jacoby Ellsbury getting as much support as he did is what’s the joke, not Davis not getting any votes.
And remember, with ROY, you only vote 1-2-3, not top 5 or top 10.

I was convinced Ellsbury was going to win
for the first half of this season. Which would have ruined the ROY vote for me forever. He only got votes based on his free taco in the World Series last year.
Evan Longoria and Geovanny Soto deserved to win the awards. They got it right. It was pretty much pre-ordained anyway.
What I want to know is who the two DFW writers voted for – given that Longoria was a sure thing, either Davis or Murphy should have gotten at least a courtesy #3 vote.

Yeah
We need to start a campaign for Davis for ROY in 2009.

Willie McCovey
Somehow, he was the unanimous ROY in 1959 despite having only 192 at bats. I wonder how he would have done in the voting if he only had 129 at bats and was still eligible in 1960?
