Wednesday a.m. things
Yesterday was conditioning camp, and Evan Grant has a write-up on it this morning, as does T.R. Sullivan. As does Anthony Andro. All of them note that the idea is to get the young pitchers accustomed to what is going to be expected from them going forward.
It is interesting to note that strength and conditioning coach Jose Vazquez says Kevin Millwood's background coming up in the Atlanta system, where the emphasis was on throwing instead of conditioning, created "bad habits" with Millwood.
Grant also has various bloggy notes up, and I'm disappointed to see he has become a Family Guy fan.
Family Guy sucks.

King of the Hill is dead to me
They misrepresented my hometown (Wichita Falls) in the Dallas Cowboys Training Camp episode.
We’re not all OU fans!
Still, I love how my friends from New York don’t realize that Whataburger is a real restaurant…

It's based on Garland
because that is where Mike Judge is from.
Plus, the absolutely trustworthy wikipedia says so:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_of_the_Hill
In early 1995, after a successful run of Beavis and Butt-head on MTV, Mike Judge co-created King of the Hill with former The Simpsons writer Greg Daniels. Judge is a former resident of Dallas, Texas suburb Garland, considered the basis of the setting of the series, the fictional Arlen.

Heh .. that's cool
And interesting to know. I’ve heard people from all over Texas swear it’s about “their town”. Included besides Stephenville are Abilene, Waco, San Angelo, etc.

There's also this
a google-cached article from the Star Telegram:
http://64.233.169.104/search?q=cache:fzsDxvx54dUJ:www.star-telegram.com/entertainment/story/934080.html+mike+judge+king+of+the+hill+garland,+tx&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=6&gl=us
King is set in the fictional Arlen, Texas, a name that sounds like a mash-up of Arlington and Garland. But its roots are in Richardson, where Judge lived when the inspiration for the show — and Hank’s do-it-yourself perfectionism and pride in home ownership — came to him.
So who knows….
Btw, LSB 2.0 will not let me post that entire link no matter what I try

definitely a funny show
casein point from this week’s episode, someone makes a sarcastic reference to how well Lincoln got along with his neighbor, and it cuts to a scene of Lincoln walking outside to pick up his newspaper. He looks over at his neighbor’s unmowed grass and says to him, “Dale, your lawn is looking a little long”.
Dale responds, “Ummm, yeah, I used to have a guy for that….dick.”

The question is how much? He had a bad year last year and the Padres offered $4M before pulling it. If he’s willing to accept a one year deal it might be useful for the Rangers to explore depending on what he thinks he’s worth.

Ugh.
He’s a one trick pony whose one trick is getting old. Aside from the fact that I have never understood how a pitcher can only have a changeup and nothing else to speak of, he’s just not who he used to be even a few years ago. I watch him here in SD, and he’s just too old. Hell’s Bells is cool and all, but its time has come and gone.
Maybe he could have one good year in the AL – I could see how he may dominate guys who are facing him for the first time. But he could also be horrendous.
I pass.

Zero funny in season 1
Like, I never laugh at all. The only line I found amusing in the whole first season is when Bart is on the winery grape farm and the french guy says, “You see the grape. Take it in your hands. Gently twist it off. Add it to the basket. Can you do that?”
Bart: “Yes.”
Frenchie: “Good. Now do it TWO MILLION TIMES.”

There are some funny parts on new episodes, but I really gave up on watching it every Sunday. It just doesn’t draw like it used to. The mid-late nineties gave us Hank Scorpio, Homer joining the Navy (my personal favorite episode ever), the Movementarians, Bart playing QB, Homer in NYC, Lisa lost in Springfields’ Russian district, and others. And that’s just part of season 8 and 9. I can’t tell you a single episode from 2003 – present.

i don’t even think trey and matt definitively said that they hated family guy.
their criticism was that it wasn’t plot driven humor – which isn’t much of a criticism at all considering most people don’t think the funny part of the simpsons is the situational comedy but more of the wit and funny lines.
but i was specifically referring to why cartman specifically hated family guy

I think
You’re absolutely wrong about the Simpsons. A lot of people have enjoyed it so much because before Homer became absolutely retarded, the show was actually about a “real” lower middle class family with funny coming in the reality of it.
Family Guy is just some doodles constructed around a writing session.

Family Guy has it's moments
It’s probably the second best out of FOX’s animated sunday night lineup, but that’s not saying much, because American Dad and KOTH both suck reeeally hard. I like Stewie, and the dog can be funny, but that’s about it.
The Simpsons, however, simply owns all animated programming – past, future, and present.

Stewie and Brian
they exchanges are really the strongest part of the show. Stewie’s interrogation of the progress of Brian’s novel is pretty genius. That said, I will always favor the Simpson’s between the two because it was so groundbreaking at the time, and it maintained its peak for a much longer period. I am also a huge fan of satire, so ultimately I rank Southpark first, Simpson’s second, and Family Guy third, although I have watched many, many episodes of all three.

They started 0-4 in ‘05-’06 and finished 67-15.
I’m not saying this team is as good as that team — but everyone flipping out over the poor start is funny.

The Critic
Honestly, who doesn’t love squigglevision?
If you’re going to include The Critic, then Home Movies probably belongs on there as well (although lower than The Critic).
You can go ahead and put Duckman slightly ahead of American Dad…

I must be the freak here
I like the Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park, King of the Hill, American Dad, and Mr. Show. They’re all funny (at least to me) in their own way.
I have all four seasons of Mr. Show on DVD, and have probably seen 98% of the combined episodes of the others- there’s a few KOTH’s I know I’ve missed, and maybe one or two American Dads, but I know I’ve seen every Simpsons, Family Guy, and South Park.

American Dad
It took a while for American Dad to grow on me- I didn’t like it much at first, but I’ve really come to enjoy it. It probably doesn’t hurt that I was a huge Paul Lynde fan growing up, so Roger is all kinds of funny to me.

Paul Lynde
Most of my early TV viewing consisted of 60’s sitcoms, game shows, and cartoons. Since Paul Lynde was on Bewitched and Hollywood Squares, and also did a fair amount of cartoon voice-over work, I got a lot of exposure (no pun intended) to his work.

Let me deduce why I hate Family Guy...
besides the fact that it is horrifically not funny.
So, Family Guy was canceled from FOX due to low ratings and possibly content. The chapter of this stain on American could finally be closed one would assume. That is until Adult Swim, a fledgling concept barely getting by on shows about food talking to monsters buys the syndication rights to Family Guy and finds its perfect demographic, namely guys who love shows about food talking to monsters. Family Guy is a relative-to-cable ratings bonanza for Adult Swim and so FOX reconsiders the series and puts it back on the air.
Soon, every male human my age is quoting the show with armfuls of every season on DVD. Seth McFarlane is lauded a comedic genius. Surely no one had seen an animated show about a fat guy and his family on TV before!
Running parallel to this soap opera is a true gem of a show, Arrested Development, a show that is also ratings challenged but just wrapping up its second season on thin ice when Family Guy returns. Arrested Development is easily the best network comedy since Seinfeld but, it doesn’t have Hitler flashbacks and dick jokes so, of course, it fails to find an audience. Arrested Development’s death knell happens when FOX decides to abandon a fourth season for another animated show to take its spot in the line-up, maybe something by that Family Guy wunderkind Seth McFarlane. And so, American Dad is picked up.
So, to recap, Family Guy/Adult Swim/Unbelievably tasteless people are responsible for us losing a seminal show that should still be on the air. Fuck you, Family Guy.

I can't understand
why people get so excited about either loving or hating something as banal as a tv show. I like watching most of the shows talked about here, but I don’t actually put any energy into thinking about the other than laughing if they’re funny.

One could say the same for music...
I wouldn’t, and you wouldn’t either. But, people like different things and get excited about different things. For example, we get pretty stoked about the Texas Rangers. However, it could be argued that we strongly root for the most irrelevant team in professional sports.
I know what you are going for here, and yes, TV often is the lowest of “art” forms. However, when something special comes along, it should be acknowledged.

To each his own...
I mean, there are people in this very entry commenting their love for Family Guy. For me Arrested Development succeeded at being hilarious because it had an attention for detail unlike anything I have ever seen on an episodic network comedy. It was the only show that I truly enjoy more with each repeated viewing because I saw something new and clever the writers were trying to do each time.
I’m a sucker for clever writing, I suppose.

Even worse...
So, NBC was running this brilliant sitcom in the Fall of 2000 about Los Angeles-based Vic Nardozza, a slightly awkward private investigator working for McKay Investigative Services. Every Tuesday, I was by my television watching Nardozza solve a new case. And although I’m sure most of you are aware of the show, for the amnesiacs amongst you, it was The Michael Richards Show. Yes, the situational comedy with that delightful laugh track that served as a launch pad for future stars such as Amy Farrington and Claudia Rose.
Well in November of that year, NBC stops showing The Michael Richards Show, and initially I’m worried. But I figure that since the show had been “retooled” prior to premiering, I could only imagine the effort exerted by the show’s writers, directors, producers, actors, etc. to create something so great. I figure that retooling is similar to how a production company will add deleted and bonus additional scenes when they release a movie on DVD ("Yeah, had we included those scenes in the theatrical version the film could have won an Oscar, been declared by critics as one of the best movies of the decade, and been studied in film schools across the world, but we just wanted to give something special to the DVD purchaser).
So, Fall of 2001 starts, and on the first Tuesday of the new season BAM!!! Emeril Lagasse’s got a show on NBC and Michael Richards doesn’t!!! What the Hell??!!! I mean, who on earth wants to watch Emeril, a disaster about a television chef’s interactions with his producers and stage manager? The cast was dreadful. Dear Lord, does anybody have a clue who Tara Karsian is?
In short, I wish the people of NBC and all of the dreadful, self-loathing viewers of Emeril a long and agonizingly painful dealth followed by an eternity in hell.
I used to believe that violence never solved any problem. That was unitl I got acquitted of murdering my pregnant mistress.

This is how it went for me
I don’t really get into TV show’s all that much.. I don’t watch every cartoon Adult Swim throws out there.. I didn’t really watch Simpson’s or South Park growing up..
I got into Simpson’s for little bit around 2002 (re-runs on WB, have no idea what season(s)), watched it everyday pretty much.. soon after some friends turned me on to Family Guy and I loved it..quit watching Simpson’s.. Then a couple years ago I watched South Park for the first time really, a whole episode, and.. no more family guy.

his new spinoff “Cleveland”…
I’m in the wrong business
http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5ie9qQ6j-Q7uKuuTwfc6VpUZxyF1QD947K1AG0
AP: Cleveland (a “Family Guy” neighbor) is getting his own series. What does it say about the state of television that Entertainment Weekly picks him — an animated character — as the cover boy for a story on African-American characters in prime-time?
MacFarlane: This is a guy who’s played like a real three-dimensional guy — not just as a cardboard, stereotyped black guy. I actually would stack that show up against other shows about black characters in recent years because I think a lot of them are — they dumb them down for some reason. They talk down to their audience. We’re just treating this like “Family Guy,” like any other show.
