Could there be a flip on the way?
When reading all of the many opinions of this deal a really interesting thought crossed my mind...
Could the Marlins have grabbed Ceda for the Rangers to help complete a deal for one of our catchers? Could we still get a Boston package and do both deals?
If they could plug him in right now, we might as well consider it too.
Hey, I would pay some of Laird's contract for a chance to acquire Ceda.

I'm not convinced
the Marlins want anything to do with Laird. They seem intent on ridding themselves of any arb-eligible player without a ton of value, like if they had Laird he would be on the block himself.
They want one of the younguns, and JD will want Nolasco/Miller/Volstad in that case, probably one of the first two.
The Red Sox can win the World Series the next two years, and should be more interested in Laird as a result. I’d love to see Laird for Bowden and Salty/Max + for Nolasco, but that’s just me.
I’d just be really surprised if Florida wants Gerry

Ugh...
could we please limit fanposts to legitimate things, I’m really getting tired of these kind of posts. Most fanposts, like this one, are a waste of time and not worthy of its own post.

this could have been in the Friday morning thread instead of here, fo sho. difference in posting styles, you and I are around 1% fanposts and 99% comments, whereas sean is around 15% fanposts. whatever.

I think Florida’s interest in our catchers is vastly overstated. I know Newberg seems to bring up Florida in his rumor emails regularly, but I don’t think they are a very good match. Now that Olsen is gone, they have very little incentive to deal another young pitcher. Nolasco and Johnson are the only arbitration eligible starters left in their rotation and both are very unlikely to be dealt.
And given their desire to cut payroll, I don’t think they would have any interest in Laird at this point.

Surfacy thinking
Florida did not acquire a cheap, young high-ceilinged arm to flip him to Texas for a more expensive older catcher. Even if we paid Laird’s entire salary I think they’d want to keep Ceda.

I could see them making this move
to build a package to get a Salty or MaxRam, who are much more in line with what Florida would want in a catcher. I agree that they don’t want Laird.
I think the Rangers would want more than Ceda for either of them, but I don’t think this line of thought is completely out of reason.
Or maybe a Ceda + Miller for Salty +

I'm thinking about a fanpost
Is Charmin really softer? I need to get to the word limits so suggestions are welcome.
Nothing pithy here. Please move long.

I don't know why, but I'm really excited about this off-season.
Last year, it seemed completely hopeless.
Why does part of me feel like we have an outside shot in 2009?
Is it the Rays’ season? Is it the fact that our pitching is so rock-bottom that it can’t possibly go any lower?
Is it conditioning camp? All of dees guys have been hurt for too long they’re just bound to escape injury this year, right?

I thought you
hated the Rays, and they didn’t deserve to win the WS, or even be there?

I find myself having similar thoughts, I think it’s because we have Hambone.
