OT: Yankees - CC, Lowe, AND Burnett?
Okay please forgive me if this link does not work as this is the first time that I have tried to link something on this blog.
To sum up:
CC was offered 6 yrs and more than 137.5 mil. And the yankees are after Lowe and Burnett. Looks like the 8 yr WS drought is just too much to handle. I wonder if this is the end of their signing bonanza or is this the beginning? Wow, the AL East is going to be some sort of competitive.
Wow, I simply hate the Yankees. And yes some of that is borne out of jealously that they are very successful. Out of all of this I figure the offer to Burnett will help set the market value for Sheets. I really hope the Rays win the East for years to come...
Lastly, could this increase the possibility that Hughes will be dealt? I figure all will sign at least 4 yr deals (if they accept) and the rest of the rotation will consist of Wang and Chamberlain (or re-signing Mussina or Pettite)

i don't see anyway
that they’d get all 3. 2 maybe, 1 probably.
they could be after all of them, but if 1 signs that could change.
Yes we can.
Yes we have. (late 90's)
Yes we will (2009,2010,2011 baby!)
More likely
they get two of the pitchers plus Teixeira than 3 pitchers.
G G G E-flat_______ F F F D__________....
I don't think...
they will go after Teix after getting Swisher. I could be wrong though. After all it’s the Yankees.

Worth a great deal to them even in AAA, with all the contracts they’re handing out.
He’s a nice insurance policy if Burnett decides to kick back on the DL in, say, year one of his new contract.

Isn't there a limit to the number of Type A free agents you can sign?
This has come up before, and I think it is the dumbest, weirdest rule in baseball, but I’m pretty sure such a cap exists.
Rules
“If there are 14 or fewer Type A or Type B free agents available, no team can sign more than one type A or B player. If there are between 15-38, no team can sign more than two. If there are between 39 and 62, there’s a limit of three. However, teams can sign as many Type A or B free agents as they’ve lost, regardless of the limits above”

I believe that
Pettitte, Mussina, and Abreu are all Type A free agents therefore Yankees can sign 3 if Mussina does not retire.

Well it seems
that the Yankees can go after anyone they want then. I really feel that wherever Sabathia signs he will earn that contract…

that number seems way too high
but its right (I just went and checked it).
Crazy how basically anyone who throws a pitch in relief is a type A or B. Its just that there are SO many guys who pitch in relief, that by the time you reach 6 years in the majors you’re either in the top 30% or so or retired. There is a weird selection bias going on with Elias rankings and relievers. At my rough count, 22 out of 54 relievers are Type A or B. Whereas there are 14 out of 81 infielders/catchers who are type A or B.
i wouldnt know
never had to worry about that being a ranger fan

Didn't we sign a whole bunch of A's and B's the Arod year? 2000 I believe.
We lost 4 draft picks, didn’t we? Or just three? Anyhow, it was a lot and it sucked.

Wood and Type A status
If the Rangers sign Wood, then we’ll lose our 2nd round pick.
But… is there a chance the Cubs don’t offer him arbitration? He seems like he’d want to stay in Chicago, so if the Cubs are serious about moving on they may not offer him
While Wood was understanding about the Cubs’ decision, which Hendry said was made in the best interests of Wood and his family, he did say he would’ve been amenable to staying and “would have done anything” to stay a Cub. The Cubs told him to go get a three- or four-year deal for more money, but Wood said he would’ve agreed to a one-year deal to stay.

He’ll take the money.
Just sorta have a feeling…

Arbitration
I think he’ll either be signed before the arbitration deadline (netting the Cubs picks) or they’ll offer him arbitration. If he accepts, they can still flip him.

You're a horrible person for making that joke.
The real question is: Am I an even worse person for getting a chuckle out of it?

i'm surprised this doesn't happen more often
if you’re a player who isn’t going to get a significant raise from switching teams, leagues, why would you choose to move your family from a city that you like living in.
he lives in Chicago, is pretty active in the community, his wife is from nearby, and they have a 2 year old kid. Why would they want to move now?
but it seems like for most athletes, these aren’t ever real concerns.
""If they'd have told me you can make the team but you've got to shine the shoes, I'd have been there shining shoes." -Bradley
I can't understand this
When you make that much money, you’d think that you’d want to be where you are happy and comfortable. I guess its just different when you have the offers on the table or most athletes are just greedy assholes.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Alot of players do take that into consideration
And a 2 year old shouldn’t factor into the equation. Hell until the kid is in middle or high school it shouldn’t really matter because until then they are still kids and they can make new friends really easy.

I wonder if evey player
is pressured from Player’s Union to take the most money, like they are talking about with CC right now.
