Braves are to get Peavy...
The Ticket is reporting that the Braves and Padres are about to get a deal done for Peavy. They are waiting on Peavy to get back from his vacation so he can officially waive is no trade clause.
Has anyone else heard this and if so does anyone know what players are involved?
I am going to be short of the 75 word limit so I am just going to ramble on like a little school girl and try to make it to the limit before I run out of breath.

Huh
Everything I had been hearing suggested the Braves were out of it. There is no info up on gaslampball, but they seem more concerned about what Padres players have on their wedding registry than baseball sometimes.
Given that the Padres are my local team, I guess I want them to get a good return. Which would mean a Braves trade is preferable to a Cubs trade.

What does Peavy like about Atlanta?
their great, loyal fan base?

Well he said the Ticket is reporting it
so probably no link and a good chance this isn’t happening.

Norm was
going on about how does Peavy not have a cell phone so he can just call in and wiave the no trade clause from the outback or where ever he is vacationing.
I have not heard it talked again and seen it nowhere else.

Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

Why is SD trading Peavy?
This backs up my point from last week about the club’s finances, from a BP chat:
Jim Clancy (Exhibition Stadium): Why are the Padres looking to deal Peavy again? Are they so far out of contention in the West that they invariably must cash in their biggest chip? Is the economic downturn (something I understand less than Mark Cuban does entering the MLB ownership club) putting the pinch on some teams more than others (e.g., the Pads and Peavy, the Sox and Swisher)?
Steven Goldman: Or it’s ownership’s divorce proceedings, which are literally tearing the club in half. Right now they’re trying to figure out who gets custody of Tony Gwynn

I'm always surprised when the Ticket scoops ESPN, Fox and "the papers" on stuff like this.
Guess those guys don’t have the network of sources that the Ticket does, though.

Peavy
this entire situation will not end well for the Padres. Rosenthal’s article now essentially states that the Cubs are bidding against themselves. They have made a final offer, and the Padres are mulling over the players, but it sounds like a third team must come in to make this thing happen.
The Padres just picked the absolute worst time to trade Peavy. I cannot remember the last time there were this many solid pitchers available through free agency. I have serious doubts, should they actually trade Peavy this winter, that they get anything near what the Orioles got for Bedard or the A’s got for Haren.
It looks like this winter will represent a gross demarcation between the haves and have nots of baseball, and just when it seemed that the talent level in baseball was evening out…

The Padres are run by a bunch of morons
Anyone who thinks Hicks is a bad owner needs to look at San Diego for why the Rangers are not in bad shape. They chased Hoffman away when the GM still wanted to sign him! Yeah he’s old, but San Diegans are kind of weird fans – many people will boycott the team if Hoffman signs with someone like Arizona. I know of one guy who is going to cancel his season tickets if they trade Peavy – it doesn’t matter if they got Lincecum and Posey for him – he’s through.
