So something like 4/64?
Sign me up.
Of course we don’t have that sort of money to spend, but I’d be down with exploring it if we did.

Lol
at Scott Boras on crack.
I wouldn’t shell out that type of cash at his age, but maybe 12mil a year for three or four.

Lowe
Well he did just finish a 4 year/ 36 million dollar deal and made 10 mil the last year of it. During those 4 years he averaged over 212 innings per year and had ERAs of 3.61, 3.63, 3.88, and 3.24. His age and home park will probably be used against him in negotiations but an asking price of 16 per is perfectly reasonable for those stats.
He’ll probably settle for 3/42-45

Boras
is probably pointing out to teams that Lowe actually had better stats than Sabbathia coming down the stretch last year so he should be paid like it.

Will it ever end?
Banks failing, retirement funds shriveling, unemployment on the rise, the auto industry about to fail. Then there is Mr. Boras who seems to be oblivious all this, asking for these contracts. Yes, I know, he is just asking market value for his clients.
But what happens when advertising dollars dry up, folks stop going to games, etc. Will it get to the point where a major league team can’t make payroll in the middle of a season? Will it ever happen?
I’m as big a baseball fan as anyone, but asking for these type contracts considering all that is going on in the world is a little annoying.

I hope Selig's teleconference scared the dickens out of GMs.

If they're not already
scared of how dumb Selig is that teleconference won’t do it.

it just makes me sad :(
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

Would be willing
I wouldn’t have a problem going 3 years and 45 million for Lowe. He has been durable and effective. If he can provide an ERA of 4 or lower to the Rangers he would be an ace.
I think he’ll get four years from somebody and that is too long for me unless he takes a vesting option.

Given the expected increase in free agent costs and Lowe's talent, he's worth more like $19MM next season.
Of course, at his age, he’s like to decline quickly, meaning you’d want to significantly decrease your payments for each additional year. Maybe $19MM, $14MM, $9MM, etc. I’m sure there’s a better way to project the decline than wild-ass guessing.

Wild-ass guessing
is what we specialize in here, sir.
I don’t see why anyone would be surprised that Lowe would get $16M. I saw a valuation for Sabathia somewhere (Dave Cameron maybe?) at $27M per, so seems like Lowe should be worth at least $16 for a couple of years since he has a good health history.
