There really isn't much to grade

if you ask me.

I agree

Its a trade of two guys who are destined to be 4th outfielders unless something clicks. Obviously it can look good or bad based on one of the two clicking, but right now its just a guess. JD felt he’d rather guess with someone other than Mayberry.

I hit the A- button instead of B+ by accident

My vote should be a B+.

I never liked Mayberry, and I don’t really think he was ever going to be a starter in the majors, so I think this was essentially a trade of two future bench players. And Golson’s tools would probably make him more useful overall as a bench player than Mayberry, since we don’t have much use for a backup COF/1B type.

I think this does show the Rangers are committed to seeing if Nelson Cruz can be a big-league COF next year though.

Meh...

“Meh” should be an option.

I was surprised...

… that wasn’t one of the options. It was the first one I looked for.

by manderskat on Nov 21, 2008 6:40 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

It is a option...

C is as meh as it gets. That was my vote as well.

Looks like...

JD is really bringing in a lot of “skill” players. I guess you could do worse than to have a shit-ton of CF’s, SS’s, and catchers.

I graded it a B

If “meh” was an option, I’d totally vote for that though.

by LiamP on Nov 20, 2008 10:55 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

yep

meh would have been my choice too but I went with a B because that’s not great and not terrible…it’s meh

I wonder which movie it was?

I think Romo would probably be a big fan of “Hail to the Chimp.”

That's what you get for not hailing to the chimp!

That’s one of my favorites.

Though I think Homer S.: Portrait of an Ass Grabber starring Dennis Franz might be my favorite. Of course “The Monster That Ate Everybody” is maybe even better than that.

Actress: You mean, it ate Patrick too?
Actor: It ate everybody.
Actress: What about Erika?
Actor: IT ATE EVERYBODY!!

The real question is, which classic show’s fake movies would you rather see: Seinfeld or the Simpsons?

Sack Lunch got a lot of hype

I’m kind of curious to see how they got in the sack.

Sack Lunch

Always loved that joke. What a terrible movie title.

But I think I would rather see Chunnel

Homo Romo will be a Homeless Homo in Dallas

if the Cowboys don’t win a playoff game this year.

Nevermind my weirdness. But the Cowboys better get to the post season and win some games. Hell, it’s been nearly 12 years

Average trade

which makes it a B, degraded by the fact that it is a “meh” sort of deal.

Push

average to me means C.

C

Not real sure how I could give it a better grade than that.

B+

It was going to be a C until I went through the three scouting reports, and watched four of the Reading interviews. Both moved me up from the tit for tat “C”. Younger, more useful defensively, no idea if he’ll ever hit well at highest levels, but I’ve got a weakness for an athletic glove.

Yeah, if you have a marginal player who isn't a starter

I’d rather them be good glove no bat than average bat no glove.

Guys like Cat clog a roster, defensive guys can at least be late inning defensive replacements.

not to mention

a chris davis pinch runner!

i also like the fact that among his resources is ‘raw power’ so that if he somehow miraculously does manage to develop into a ML capable hitter i wonder if he doesnt have mike cameron lite sort of potential.

reading scouting reports from when Golson was drafted

seems pretty damn close to the scouting reports on Engel Beltre currently.

B+

I like the move from a depth perspective. Wasn’t too familiar with the guy, but I’d much rather role the dice with him than JMJ. If we’re able to package Byrd for a starter, I’d rather see Golson out there taking his lumps while Borbon continues to work on his game in the minors. I still remember my WTF moment when we took him, and was never a real big fan.

I like the trade alot

Mayberry didn’t have a place on this team. With hamilton moving to a COF position most likely next year that virtually eliminated Mayberrys need for us. The trio of Cruz, Murphy, and Boggs will be fighting for one spot essentially. Adding mayberry would only muddle that mix. By bringing in Golson he is a guy that can play CF as well as LF most likely in Arlington which makes him more valuable than Mayberry

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

by bigsteve on Nov 21, 2008 8:47 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

Yep

In one of the interviews, Golson was asked about playing LF for the first time. He said it worried him when he first went out there, because in LF you don’t see the batter to pitch relationship like in CF, so your reaction to a hit ball has to be quicker. After he got the first one or two his way, he was more comfortable.

E for effort

I dont really think much of this one way or the other, it was a surprise but i couldnt really say its a B or a C, etc.
