Some Thoughts from Greg Golson
On his approach, vis-a-vis the dreaded K:
I think a lot of it had to do with anxieties. I was trying not to strikeout and that got me into counts where I could strikeout. By the end of the year, I told myself that people strike out and I need to not worry about it and swing. My approach wasn't the right way. Even when I didn't have any strikes on me, I was trying to eliminate the pitcher's strikeout pitch. That's not the right approach. Now it's more about looking for my pitch and for a certain zone and not being so defensive when I'm trying to hit.
IIRC from some scouting reports: "He thinks too much". It seems he recognizes that issue, good for him.

well maybe he'll turn out alright..
Rudy may be able to do wonders with the kid. At least he’s not been chided for being lazy. A little bit of lazy goes a long way. I change my grade from C to B -.

great interview
he sounds like a very intelligent kid who is aware of his own strengths and weaknesses. if he can play half as well as he interviews, then this deal is a win. he seems pretty confident that he turned some sort of corner last year. I think we will see him start the year in AA and hopefully earn a promotion by the minor league ASB…that is, if he isnt dealt first.

In the long run...
I think that Golson will help the team more than Mayberry could have. Honestly, I dont think either would be a good option on a contending team as a starter however I believe that Golson could have a quality role on a team like that as a speedster off the bench. Just a thought….

Me too
I think Golson will prove to be much more agile and swift at retrieving foul balls than Mayberry. Mayberry is naturally more clumsy because of longer limbs and might trip over the security guard or perhaps run into the umpire when delivering him the ball.

From BA:
If he hits lefthanders like he did in 2008, Mayberry could be a tactical asset for Philadelphia next season. After all, this is a player who swatted lefties at Double-A (.357/.400/.643) and Triple-A (.350/.393/.700), and he’s the type of player who could thrive in Citizen’s Bank Park. For the Rangers, Golson immediately becomes their best defensive outfielder, and maybe the bat develops with further repetitions.
