College Football 11/22
1100 AM CT Michigan at No. 10 Ohio State
2:30 PM CT No. 15 Michigan State at No. 8 Penn State
5:00 PM CT No. 14 Brigham Young at No. 7 Utah
7:00 PM CT No. 2 Texas Tech at No. 5 Oklahoma
Hopefully OU wins in an ugly, ugly game with low scores and plenty of turnovers to set up the 3-way tie in the Big 12 South and shut up the overconfident Tech fans.

I love Texas Tech going against
that OU offense.
This is not “Typical Tech.”
Typical Tech doesn’t come from behind and win the UT game in that fashion nor do they keep their S together to absolutely throttle Okie State the next week.
Tech did not play over their heads against Texas (several screw-ups) and if they did, that game would have been a rout. Tech did play their A game v. Okie State and they were dominant against a very good team. Getting a week off before the OU game is a good thing.
Tech has beaten OU two of the last three games (both wins in Lubbock) and in the 2006 game they lost, I believe they led 24-10 at half. They know they can play with and beat OU.
This Tech team has won their last 12 games with wins over OU, Texas, Okie State, a good Virginia team and a decent Nebraska team. They’re the real deal.
Disclaimer….I’m also a major homer (wearing a Tech jersey and black mask as I type this) and have been swimming in the Red & Black Kool-Aid so take it for what it’s worth.
As a rational bettor, I’d stay away from the over/under of 76 but I’m going to be all over Tech +7.
Excuse me while I go out for a ride on a black horse!!

I'm not an OU fan, just FYI
but Tech did beat UT at home and they beat oklahoma state at home. We beat OU on a neutral field and have also beat Missouri when they were #11.

It's game day bitches...
I think Penn St. beats Michigan St. and Tech finds a way to get past the Sooners.
I’m so damn hyped up right now for the Holy War it’s not even funny. It doesn’t get any bigger than this around here. Two schools that hate each other with a combined 21-1 record with conference and BCS hopes on the line. The last two years I’ve had my heart ripped out in the last minute of the game. This year it’s time for redemption.

Absolutely serious.
Best looking women in the conference, barnone. Always been that way.
The proof I offer is that just about all my Tech buddies outkicked their coverage and married way, way over their heads. Tech women are not only great looking at the time you date them but they age quite well and are lots of fun (generally speaking).
I was at the Tech / Texas game three weeks ago. Still a phenomenal amount of good looking women.
UT takes the silver and I’d give OU the bronze.
A&M sucks hind tit in that department as well.

But surprisingly, I find it a welcome break from Big 10 11am football on ESPN.
Now is that because of my new interest in soccer or the pitiful state of Big 10 football on ESPN on Saturdays, is the true mystery.

Can someone explain to me all the Florida/Tebow love?
Florida has a good program, and they’re a top ten team… but it’s ridiculous that they’re getting first place votes, and could potentially jump UT/TT/OU in the BCS rankings, since they lost at home to an unranked team.
And why is Tebow even in the Heisman race? He’s thrown for like 1600 yards this season, and rushed for 300 or so.
by chief on Nov 22, 2008 2:06 PM CST reply actions 0 recs

Their only loss was to an unranked team where as OU and UT have both lost to a Top 5 team and maybe TT joins that club soon.

Florida will answer the first question...
…on January 8th when they win their third National Championship… Even us diehard Gator fans can’t explain the Old Miss loss, but anyone who’s paid attention since that game has to acknowledge that NO team has been nearly as dominant from that point forward. Yeah, TT has remained undefeated, but that will probably end today, and Alabama benefits from playing in the weaker SEC West. UT and OU are both strong teams, but only one of them can end the season in contention – it’s just the way the college game is set up. I don’t agree with Obama about much, but since he’s getting so much press for it, let’s get a playoff going!
As for Tebow – he shouldn’t win the Heisman this season. I’ll admit that to anyone that asks, but I’m certainly rooting for him. His presence on the Gator roster elevates the entire team to another level. If he leaves for the NFL after this season, the Gators will be lucky to finish in the Top 15-20 next year. He single handedly raises the level of play for his team, and that’s what keeps him in the Heisman conversation.

Fortunately, idiots don't decide this...
…the schedule does. Looking ahead, Florida gets into the Championship game as long as they win out, which shouldn’t be a problem. TT, OU and UT beat up on each other and only one of them gets to play for their conference championship. The winner of the Big 12 plays Florida or Alabama for everything this year (unless Missouri wins the Big 12). It’s the only way the schedule plays out. Fair or not, I’ll gladly enjoy the Gators making it to the game.

I disagree with that, but...

The schedule pretty much guarantees that Florida or Alabama are one of the two teams playing for the BCS Championship.

It's "getting hosed" in my book...
…because I believe they’re the best team in the country, even with a loss to an unranked team at home. I wouldn’t rank them #1 right now, but they should prove to be better than Alabama, and then the pollsters will/should put the Gators in position to play for the championship, and they win that game too, as far as I’m concerned.
We just finished a run of beating SIX straight teams from the SEC by a minimum of 28 points. That has NEVER happened in the SEC before. The Gators are a complete AND dominate team in all three aspects of the game now. (They weren’t on 9/27, but they are now.) TT, UT and OU would kill to have the Gator defense this season.

I'll still take the Gator D...
…over OU, TT or UT’s offense. I don’t think any of those teams could put 30 on the board against an Urban Meyer team in a national championship game, and I can guarantee we put up a minimum of 40.
Of course, now I’m just sounding arrogant and boastful, which usually bites me in the ass, so I’ll slink away quietly before I jinx my boys.

That great D
Has let The Citadel score 13 points today. Should have shut them out. Which leads me to another question how do you schedule such a shitty team. The Gators should never play a team such as The Citadel. I don’t care how strong the SEC is it shouldn’t happen.

The 2nd team came in...
…at the mid-way point of the 2nd (2nd!!!) quarter. The 3rd team gave up the 2nd and 3rd TD’s.
As for the scheduling question from boomer1, one of the Gator coaches is from The Citadel. We had an open date, Meyer wanted to help out one of his own by inviting that coaches alma mater to a game where The Citadel got something like $450k for showing up. It helped a military school financially, it gave the Gators some live game action, and everyone leaves the Swamp happy.
Doesn’t help us in the polls, but it keeps us from getting rusty before the FSU and Alabama games.

True...
…but sometimes a classy move outweighs the other stuff. Meyer did something classy that could hurt the Gator chances for a title (although I don’t think it will), not to mention the potential for injuries, etc.
As a fan, I’ve got mixed emotions. Gotta love a good blowout, but is it worth the risk?

Thanks for the link...
…you’ve just ruined my day…
:-)
Actually, I know Meyer has long wanted to coach at ND, but I really don’t see him leaving Florida anytime soon. He’s way too connected with the school and the program. One day I may have to eat those words, but I simply don’t see him going anywhere for the foreseeable future.
Many of the interviews I’ve read indicate how much he and his family love Gainesville, and as long as he continues to win here, I think he’ll stay.
One of the things that really eases my mind is that this article was posed on Tallahassee.com. Giving false hope to FSU fans cracks me up!

But now that the game...

If we slip in the polls, it will only be for one week and then we’ll jump right back up after beating FSU and Alabama.

Yes, we'll see on that...
…but that’s what makes it fun. We all see our team having a chance to play for a championship and start salivating at the thought. I look at everything and acknowledge that the Big 12 has been the best conference this season, but they suffer from their strength this year, just as the SEC has in past seasons.
Losing to Ole Miss is the glaring thing that should keep us out of the game, but we’ve been SO dominant since that point that it’s made up for the most embarrassing loss I can think of as a Gator fan. The pollsters seem to agree with me on that, but only time will really tell.

It's really amazing to look back on those early 90s Cowboys teams.
I mean, the idea of having a top 10 (maybe top 5) all-time QB, a top 5 WR, a top 3 RB and some amazing defensive playmakers ON THE SAME TEAM is just mind-boggling.

The thing I liked about those 90s cowboys
Is that there was no selfish players on that team. It seemed as though each player on the field was playing for a championship. Irvin, with all the bad press he had (and I read that Boys will be boys book about him), still went out there and did work on the field
Oh, and if there was one player on that team that I would love on this years team, give me “Moose” Johnson any day. That is a player

that i’ve been waiting for someone to do since i’ve started watching football…and don’t understand why it’s not taught or used more…
time running down in the first half, he caught the ball, but was not close to getting out of bounds, so he threw the ball out of bounds to stop the clock.

and in the next few plays he scores on a 40 yard bomb with 2 seconds left…

I know a couple ND fans online.
From, like, California and Idaho, which is hilarious. Anyway, they were randomly talking trash in January about how ND would kill WSU if they played. Which I thought was ridiculous, but whatever, they’ll never play. They were annoying, though.
Low-and-behold, WSU gets the 4 seed in the same bracket where ND gets the 5 seed and we had our chance to test whether the trash had merit or not.
. . . it did not. The lead was, like, 35 points or something ridiculous before we started playing the bench the rest of the way. One of the most satisfying moments of my life.
And also why I think trash talk is stupid. You never know when it’s going to make you look like a dumbass.

Sketti
I am making a batch tonight with ground turkey, shitake buttons, green peppers, onions…all the good stuff. Then getcher ass to Kroger and buy a garlic-parmesan pull-apart roll (it looks like a bundt cake). Then slice some hunks of said bread, apply butter, and toast in the Cuisinart.
Yummy! And you get several meals out of it. Ever had baked sketti? Throw some noodles and cold sauce on a good plate, cover with cheese, and bake to warm up & melt the cheese.
And sonofa…I forgot the damn bread. Sigh…back to Kroger…

Which part?
Texas Tech is 7 point underdogs at about even money. But I bet on them to win strait up, no points given. +200 is basically just 2 to 1 odds. +150 would be whatever you bet times 1.5 = your winnings.
Jinx bet is, I always bet on the team I want to lose. So if they win, I pocket some cash.

bet
i almost put a bet on the game after listening to norm on the ticket…there is some long drawn out gamblers thing that proves that ou should win based on the past 20yrs of these types of matchups
BUT…tech could roll on that ou secondary

I hate tech, but there is just no way they can lose.

Trust me I want OU to win as previously stated
But the game simply lasts too long. Tech outscores people at will. Then the defense just gets 1 or 2 key stops when they need it.

Hell yeah I was...
The stadium was rockin’ last night.
As for “fuck the mormons”, it’s funny because their star reciever Austin Collie made a lucky ass catch last year on a 4th and 18 play with a minute left to help BYU win and rip my heart out. After the game when asked about the play he said “when you live life the right way off the field I feel like the lord steps in and magic happens”. There are many mormons out here with that mentality, especially BYU fans. They don’t know shit about football they just cheer for them because they think it’s a damn religious experience. Not all mormons are like that, but the ones that are, yeah fuck them.
