Around SBN: NFL Roundtable: Which Draft Pick Is Most Likely To Bust?

Monday Links

A couple of quick notes to point out (and they could have already been mentioned in the comments of other threads)…

The Rangers are on the verge of having 5 of the top 30 prospects in baseball according to the fervent fans over at minorleagueball, and that doesn’t even include the greatness of Michael Main.  I am not asking anyone to run over there and stuff the ballot box, but I do like the idea that Rangers prospects are no longer underrated by general baseball fans, and may even (gasp) be overrated at this point.

Also, Tim over at MLBTR has posted his own speculative version of “Where Will the Free Agents End Up?” and he has the Rangers signing none of the top 50 FAs this year, which I find a little hard to believe.  While I expect the major move to be the addition of a pitcher via trade, I still expect this team to sign someone.  If we are going to build a team entirely through trades, that will be a misallocation of resources.  But after looking over the list a few more times, there may not be a FA that makes a ton of sense for the Rangers on that list outside of the upper tier.  So maybe he's right...

Sheets

I could see Maddux and Sheets’ Dallas residence swaying him.

That said, he’s a flyballer with fishy K numbers so it’s fine either way.

Pitching will come via trade this winter, probably this week. Yadda yadda yadda.

I should have probably elaborated

but what caught my eye was that fans over there are placing Max Ramirez neck and neck with the number one overall pick this past summer. He will either land at 29 or 30 in their overall rankings. I think his lackluster finish and his constant inclusion as the 4th guy in our list of catchers and a 5-10 guy in our overall prospect rankings leads a few of us in the LSB community to forget he is still quite a prospect. I am not in love with the idea of trading him because of the need for his right handed bat in our lineup, but he could be one of those “top 50” prospect that teams are looking for in trades for top pitching.

lol, i think everyone who just read your post

went over there and voted for Max all at the same time. Went from tied to a 15 vote lead for max…

We’re not allowed to vote.

It fucks up their “objective” exercises.

I just went over there

for the first time after posting this. Looks like it caused a slight commotion.

I have a hard time thinking Ramirez is a top 30 guy, and there are a number of guys still not ranked who I would trade him for…

The steady diet of hate on the Rangers over there is startingto get annoying

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that some individuals pet prospects don’t keep getting passed over for Rangers.

Add to it when they do day/night votes most of the east coast prospects lose because the west coast guys have there own group of prospects they follow. So a east coast guy will be up, then get hammered by the west coast votes in the evening. Or maybe we are just a bunch of ballot stuffing ball washing bastards that are going out of our way to destroy their scientific poll.

Screw 'em...

someone thinks way too much of their little polls. Does it really matter? It’s a fucking internet poll. It’s not a big deal.

People who are worried about the sanctity of their minor league prospect polls telling Ranger fans to get a job cracks me up.

I dunno

I was pretty pissed when somebody ballot stuffed for Renny Osuna one time during the last round of LSB Community Prospect polls. :(

those threads all suck

they spend all of their time talking about the results of the voting, rather than the players being voted on. It’s not a Max phenomena, every single one of those threads that I’ve read is centered around some big “controversy”.

I don't hate everything. In fact, I think LSB is just groovy.

Ditto

bunch of bitter whiners over there upset their favorite prospect isn’t being voted in whatever place they’re on.

That's hysterical

"He’s basically told himself unconsciously that he can’t be any good unless he catches 130 games a year. If he played with the baseball smarts of a guy like a David Eckstein, he’d maximize his talent and be an incredible player." - Andy Seiler, Texas Rangers Analyst

well they just said now that they alone will monitor

when it is OK to place in an A’s, Giant or Rangers prospect in the list, not using the tester method they use for everyone else .. Not withstanding that those are the top 4 systems right now in baseball along with Atl.

To much politics…. I think I am done with their games over there

For God's sake

please keep me updated and informed.
