I hate Bleed Bubbie Blue so I don't want to read that link.
Can someone tell me why MLB wouldn’t want a charismatic billionaire with a ridiculous passion for sports owning one of their premier franchises?
Is it Cuban’s offer they don’ find appealing?
Or is it Cuban himself?

It is probably the fact...
…that he’s a giant tool.
But in a different way from guys like Reinsdorf and Selig.
Most of the owners are, like, hammers. Cuban is a crescent wrench variety of tool.

if you don't know...
take a look in the mirror
I kid, I kid…I love the guy for all he’s done for the Mavs and the city of Dallas…let’s face it, we wouldn’t have developed the north side of downtown as well if he weren’t the owner. And he helped make Dallas a place people want to play.
That said, he’s a bit brash, stubborn, and just has that scowl. I’d like to meet the guy, hang out with him a few times before passing judgment, but I can see why people would think it

Totally agree.
He’d annoy the shit out of me if he owned an NBA franchise other than the Mavs, but even the haters can’t really think he’d be bad for a league.
If I ran a sports league I’d be doing whatever I could to encourage guys like him to become owners.
But baseball has always been a good old boys club, and Cuban definitely doesn’t fit that mold. Which is a damn shame cause I think a Mark Cuban run Cubs franchise would be great for baseball.
You can bet Reinsdorf would never allow that, though.

Cuban Rules
He is great for Dallas, great for the team, great for the leauge. Unfortunately, David Stern did not agree and decided to hand the Heat the 2006 finals via corrupt officiating. I am still so ultra bitter about that shit.
As evil and horrible as Bud Selig is, I do not think he is outwardly corrupt like Stern. And neither are MLB’s officials, despite some highly visible blown calls in recent years.

Basic takeover
You see a big market, low payroll, talented farm system … you see the opportunity, you see a struggling franchise.
Why wouldn’t you try to swoop in (if you were that rich) and overwhelm Hicks with an offer?
DJCahill alone could significantly appreciate this franchise, imo, fwiw. Surely he wouldn’t cost much off of the scrap heap.

I don't think this will ever be a "premier" franchise as longas their stadium is in Arlington.
I love the Stadium and have no problem with the city itself, but a nice new urban stadium in downtown Dallas with a retractable roof would be such a ridiculous boon for this team… and even then you’d still have to get the TV up in a Cowboys obsessed market, though consistent winning and good marketing, the Dallas Mavericks have shown, can help with that.
Baseball teams make their money off of regional TV and their stadiums.

Nontraditional
The owners like people with deep pockets, but don’t have high regard for flashiness or johnny come lately. Cuban is both. He isn’t laid back, finance community, old money connected. He’s an internet geek who bilked a billion out of “nothing”. Looking back, ownership committees probably don’t want to go through another Bill Veeck era. My take on the ownership committee’s point of view.

Mike’s take seems close. But I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking it’s worth it to kick in a little extra to get Buchholz. A catcher plus a pitcher not named Feliz, Holland, Main or Perez? I hope a decent trade happens soon, I’m tired of thinking and talking about it.

I'm with you on Tea for Buchh
I wonder how much the Sawx like Byrd.
Seems like with Crisp being superfluous and expensive they might consider Byrd a much better fit for them at a better price. TT + Byrd for Buchh + Crisp?
Or maybe they’d be interested in paying a chunk of Lowell’s salary and sending him our way just to be rid of him so they could move on Tex or use Lowrie, though I’m pretty sure there you’d have a no-trade to contend with.
There a so many options out there.

Byrd
To maximize his trade value you need to trade him to a team that can play him everyday so you can emphasize the draft pick compensation aspect. if he has another season like this one he will almost assuredly be some Type free agent. In Boston with Ellsbury, Bay, and Drew he would be a 4th OF who barely plays.

Paul Bako (37)
Josh Bard (31)
Michael Barrett (32)
Gary Bennett (37)
Henry Blanco (37)
Johnny Estrada (33)
Sal Fasano (37)
Toby Hall (33)

Adam Melhuse (37)
Chad Moeller (34)
Ivan Rodriguez (37) – Type B
David Ross (32)
Javier Valentin (33)
Jason Varitek (37) – Type A
Vance Wilson (36)
Gregg Zaun (38) – Type B

Laird
If hes back its as the starter.
As for a backup catcher I wouldn’t worry about if the starter gets injured because we should have a guy in AAA who is ready if that happens. So my criteria for backup catcher is a guy who knows his role and plays decent defense. I don’t know alot about those guys you listed but off the top of my head Melhuise and Toby Hall would be my choices.

Maybe.
But he’s a bit like the Milton Bradley of the NBA. Extremely talented, but he just gets little sprains and pulls all the time. Over the last 4 years, he’s averaging about 65 games, which is not horrible, but compared to Howard’s 70, or Dirk’s 78.5, I’d just be scared to count on him as a significant piece too much going forward.
Plus, he’s not a very good shooter, which is already a problem for us with a better (though less efficient) shooter in Howard.
