? about Tex
i'm an Angels fan, i was wondering if any of guys that are Ranger fans can tell me if you guys liked Tex as fan? was he well liked player down there? i like Tex, want the Angels to resign him, but not for the money i think he's going to get. most i would go is 7/140. if the NYY and Redsox want to pay more let them. i just think he's not worth the money, he looks like another A-Rod. cares only about stats.

Pretty much nailed it
He never endeared himself to fans. Great player don’t get me wrong. But always, to me at least, put off that aura that he was only in it for himself. The way he left here was really messy and didn’t help that image.

I think Tex was well liked
as a player but less well thought of as a person. I think the consensus was that while he was not a distraction in the clubhouse, he did not go out of his way to make other players ( particularly younger ones) feel welcome. He is definitely all about the money. That being said , he is a very good player.

1st Basemen
Don’t get paid for their defense, so the fact that he worked so hard at it makes it hard for me to believe he’s all about the money. I never got the impression that he liked playing in Texas. As for the locker room stuff, maybe he was kind of a loner. For whatever reason, fans didn’t seem to care that much about him unless he was on a hot streak. Then they love everybody.
Eventually I bet he ends up back in Baltimore and maybe he breaks the ice with fans there.

I’d think being a Gold Glover would net you quite a few extra scheckles come contract negotiation time.
Maybe not a ton, but a sensible GM would be more inclined to pay out the yazoo for Tex with the glove he’s developed than Tex giving you below league average defense.
Plus, it’s not like Boras hasn’t read Moneyball.

Okay.
So you’re obviously hell bent on believing he only plays for the dough. That’s cool…neither of us know him so neither is wrong nor right.

I believe
money is his chief motivation.
It’s mine, too, when I go to work. Checks stop comin’, so does Keynes. Pretty reasonable
My point was that he became a good defensive player after switching spots on the field doesn’t indicate anything other than he does have a commitment to be very, very good at baseball.
And I think the main reason behind that is he wants to paid like a someone who is very, very, very good at baseball.
In truth, ain’t nothing wrong with that.

Given some statements from our guys (well, maybe just one guy, but still) Tex wasn’t very well-liked in his own locker room at all.
Count that as you may, whether that’s important or not.

I don't think there are many Ranger fans here
that will say they like Tex.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

It depends
I think the general fan probably liked him. Fans that frequent sites like this and keep up on things probably didn’t. He was viewed as a guy with little personality who didn’t connect with fans and also had a reputation as a wet blanket in the clubhouse.
Personally, I liked him. I like guys who play everyday at a Gold Glove level in the field and also hit 35 homers and drive in 115+ RBI every year but that’s just me. All of that other crap is meaningless to me.

Teix...
was well liked by fans, but any knowledgeable fan also knew as soon as his contract was up he was gone. As soon as he turned down the extension he was offered before he was traded he automatically turned heel.
He is a great player, but not worth what he will get on the market, that’s for sure.

I'm going to disagree.
If you remember, he turned heel when he hit Blalock in the face with a folding chair and then suplexed him through one of the training tables in the clubhouse.

Something about his style rubbed me the wrong way. I was happy to see him traded.

+1
There were a few people who disliked him back when, but, after it was clear to everyone that he wasn’t going to re-sign, it became a flood of people.
I like him well enough, but I don’t think he’s going to be worth the superstar money he is looking for. He’s All Star good, but he’s not Hall good, and he is looking for Hall of Famer pay.

I am also still amazed at how many people turned on him after the BaD Radio thing.

A sense of humor...
goes a long way for likability, but what happened on The Ticket was worse than not having a sense of humor. It was like the guy didn’t even know who he was talking to.

Bob and Dan
They were interviewing Teixeira one day. During the interview marriage came up and Dan made a joke about Teixeira divorcing his wife (I can’t remember the exact words) and Teixeira didn’t think it was funny so that means he didn’t have a sense of humor. Of course, the next time Dan says something funny it will be the first but that’s another story. I also think that Tex made a little stink about it to the Rangers but again I can’t remember for sure. Dan took all of this as a chance to bag on Teixeira on a regular basis for quite a while.

well
maybe like right before he was traded.
but for most of his tenure, as far as the fans knew, he was a great team player and very good within the community (lots of charity work).
Incidentally, what’s the point of this inquiry? Are you trying to figure out whether he’s worth the money? Then yeah, he’s a model citizen and his personality should not detract from him in any way. He wants to win and is a pretty great ballplayer (maybe not quite HofF but pretty close).
If you want to know whether to date him, there are a few red flags (he’s married).

lol
yeah pass on that. lol, i only really saw him for 2+months. he seemed like he was trying really hard to be professional in all his interviews. it seemed like he had no personality. i feel like if your going to make him your highest paid player on the team, at least have some personality where fans can enjoy him. how much is too much money for him?

Teixeira was very good within the community?
I’ve heard the exact opposite.

Of course
I mean come on, anybody you watch get drafted, developed, and then hit 153 home runs for your team you’re going to like. People just lost all respect for him after he flew his true colors in ’07 and bitched his way to an early exit from the organization – which is something we should all probably thank him for in the long run, considering all the talent roped in on his trade.
Just say no to Scott Olsen.

IMO Cancer
not a first though. he started out ok but, then grew into a really bad cancer, like anal cancer. I think he’s all about the money. Teixeira and Boras are trying to find a team they can bend over and apply some pain too. He wont help you win anything.

Would it be safe to say that uh...
he was sort of a…robot? As in the kind of people who seem to train themselves on how to respond “the right way” to press and as a result, lack unique character?

Heh
Actually that sounds more like Michael Young than Tex. Tex only says the right things when he’s getting paid, but when he’s not happy he’ll let it be known.

CJ Wilson
didnt he indirectly come out and say that Tex was one of the guys that was hated in the clubhouse? one of the guys that was all about himself and not about the team? i could have sworn i heard him on the ticket saying that about tex and one other guy the year after they were gone. (wasnt lofton; cant remember the other guy)
by kumizi on Nov 9, 2008 1:26 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Also, I could have sworn that Wilson said Teixeira did not participate with the team when making hospital visits and other charitible events.
That is why the “Teixeira was active in the community” chatter surprises me.
Of course, I’m only going by what he said.
