CC Sabathia signs with Yankees, eats chocolate cake to celebrate
Still early, but gets 140 million plus.
Sucks for the Yankees, its great that he did good in the NL and all, but the AL is an entirely diferen't league. This is the biggest contract for a pitcher ever, he is the wrong guy to give it to. This is a guy that has weight issues, and hasn't shown he can control those urges with Gerald Laird.
His weight problem won't get any better living in New York... That is the land of the foods, his mouth is already watering. Cheesesteaks, steaks, cakes, ice cream, grease...
You name it, they have it. Not good news for Yankees fans.
CC Sabathia doesn't care about winning, he cares about feasting...

You do it right? I mean that clears another 3.5 mil and Benny was down right terrible after he signed that contract. Plus it looks like Eddie G money might make a return to Arlington.

Eddie G Money
Was not only terrible after we traded him, he had a 6.14 ERA for the entire second half of 2008. Him and his 84 MPH frisbee aren’t on my list of guys I want to see in a Ranger uniform again.

in a heartbeat
relievers year to year are unpredictable, and benoit is no exception.
How many years are left on bonser’s contract
Wait 'til the year after next
Bonser
under team control through 2012, I believe.

His weight however
Is only under control until the next trip to the Dairy Queen.

Uh, Miles...

You do realize Sabathia dominated in Cleveland for 7 1/2 years before he was traded at the deadline this year, don’t you? The guy is still an AL pitcher, one of the best in fact – and the 260 ERA+ he put up during his time with the Brewers this year is only an indication of that.
The contract is insane, but the Yankees might be the one team in baseball who can truly afford it. Sabathia is probably going to have 2 or three more really good years there before he starts to decline.

His highest
ERA is against AL East, where he will be pitching most of his games.

Okay, I looked
And that stat is a bit skewed, nevermind the fact that it’s not the greatest stat in the world.
Looking at the AL East parks, he’s actually been very good in the majority of the opposing stadiums: 2.53 ERA in Fenway park, a 2.60 ERA in Camden Yards, a 2.88 ERA at the Rogers Centre and a passable 3.77 ERA at the Trop. The place he has struggled has been Yankee Stadium (8.61 ERA there) but the fact that he’ll be pitching for the Yankees and not against their lineup (which he has a 6.16 ERA against) will probably make a huge difference.
FWIW, I’d love to see him fall flat on his face as a Yankee – but you have to realize, CC is the real deal, at least for a few more years. It’s not real likely the Yankees will regret that contract for awhile, ifthey ever do.

And FWIW part 2
Bill James has him projected for 16 wins, 240 IP, a 3.48 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and a 3.53 FIP next year.

Don't worry Jon...
you’re debating this with Miles in a Miles picture ejaculation fanpost.
Just take a step back and enjoy the schadenfreude of it all.

anyone see
where Boras went and met with LAD re Manny? LAD said basically, “Yeah, we’d love to have Manny, but the original offer of 2/45 is off the table.”
I wonder if they’ll stick to their guns….

Is it a 6 year contract? I think he is gone after 3 years. I think this also means Boston gets Teixeira.

+1
I think Boston has to sign Tex, if they do I bet things start shaking pretty quick.
Is Tex going to get a 10 yr deal?

nice post MILES…love the pics!
"The Gerald Laird trade is a GREAT SUCCESS! Who'd we get for him again?"

Really only a 3 year deal...
Sabathia can opt-out after 2011, so it could be as little as a 3 year, $69 million deal.
Yankees got a GREAT deal. Even if he stays all seven years, they still pay an average of $23 million a year.
Heck, I would have had no problem with the Rangers doing this same deal with Sabathia, but YES I KNOW THAT WOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED.
Go Cubbies and Go Rangers!
