Kerry Wood to the Indians

You know how the Rangers needed to move payroll so they could sign Kerry Wood?

Well, nevermind.

Wood has apparently signed a 2 year deal with the Cleveland Indians.

Too many injuries

now Ben Sheets; there’s an injury history/haircut you can set your watch to.

Awesome.

Noone wanted Wood here

by Mike E on Dec 10, 2008 10:42 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

I wouldn't have minded it

But I guess it’s probably good. Fx2 didn’t really need verteran competition for Wash to award his job to.

I did. Especially on a two year deal. He misses bats and he's been able to stay somewhat healthy as a one-inning-at-a-time guy.

I really wish we had some free money so we could participate in this winter of bargains.

Super frowny face ::::::((((((

I really liked the idea of Wood as our closer

CJ and Frankie don’t inspire me in the ninth inning. I think both are suited for mid relief on a good team.

Don't believe the hype about sloppy seconds. They ain't bad.

Yeah

I was on board with a Wood signing as well. Only reliever i was real interested in pursuing on the FA market

I had a paper route when I was a kid. I was supposed to go to 2,000 houses. Or two dumpsters.

if we don't end up using the money on anyone else

then i would have been fine spending it on wood.. better than some scrub 3b or a worse reliever without the health issues.
so yeah.. wouldnt have been a big deal to me if we got him, but im not upset about losing him.

the preceding post was a great success.

by DSheppard on Dec 10, 2008 11:35 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I did.

The link is broken, maybe the deal hasn’t been completed. I see from googling it is contingent upon a physical. Nolan could still swoop in and snag Kerry, it would seem.

Go Rangers!

Awesome

One of my two theories is working out earlier than expected. You know, Rangers shed payroll so they could pursue FA pitching, fail to “succeed” doing that, and the Rangers field a $60MM team just like they planned all along ©.

Nothing pithy here. Please move long.

by WyoRanger on Dec 10, 2008 10:43 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

By the way

This isn’t an anti-Rangers theory. I’m cool with no big FA pitching acquisitions going into next year. I’m just entertained by the organization going through these useless PR machinations to try and placate fans.

Nothing pithy here. Please move long.

Just my theory. My theory.

by WyoRanger on Dec 10, 2008 1:14 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I thought that was Josey's theory.

And, that Josey had first dibs since he had invoked a similar idea way back when the Rangers were “pursuing” Delgado.

Go Rangers!

Josey's theory

is that if anything goes wrong, ever, anywhere, it’s Daniels’ fault. If it goes right, it’s because Ryan was babysitting.

Hmm.
Kerry Wood appears to be headed to either Cleveland or Texas, likely for two years and $12 million-$14 million.

Maybe they were trying to get him here.

Fire Todd Dodge. Seriously. 45 given up in the 1st quarter. Wow. But still we're better than Washington! Oh and, SUCK IT WESTERN KENTUCKY! 1-10 baby!

6 - 7 M per year. seems like a bargain

What about Chad Cordero? Are in on him? Seems like we could get him at a deal. Another question of health though.

Wait 'til the year after next

i would rather have Cordero

on a one year deal for 2M than Wood on a two year deal for 20+, which is what is being reported.

Handicap it

Over the course of Wood’s contract, who will do the best?

Wood,
Frankie,
or Guillermo?

But I think Wood is clearly a much better pitcher than FX2.

But I think he means F-Rod when he says Frankie.

You know, I was told somewhere that 'Native Americans' isn't the proper name, either... because of the people who crossed the Beiring (sp?) Strait.

It was said that ‘American Indians’ is the correct title.

Is that right?

If you are going to go that far

then it should be ‘American Asians,’ since the people who crossed the Bering Strait are different from the people who settled in what is now India.

It actually wasn't that at all...

American Indians prefer not to be called “Native Americans” because they feel it’s a short-sighted label… that it groups them… much in the same way that all Latinos are called “Hispanics”…

that video you posted...

…is 4 blocks from my apartment. It’s been a gorgeous year here—almost no rain and my neighborhood (Lower Nob Hill) rarely gets engulfed in fog. That said, I’m thinking of moving closer to Dolores Park. Know anybody with property for rent?

Dolores Park? Don’t know anyone there but I’ve heard it’s quite nice, yeh I know the weather is amazing there, I was just there a couple weeks ago having me some of that delicious sourdough bread and trying to kidnap Tim Lincecum for the Rangers.

too bad

he had the third-best DIPS of any closer to record at least 20 saves. Sounds perfect for an all-bat, no-glove team like the Rangers.

I’d much rather take a chance on Wood for two years, $14 mil than have K-Rod for any of the offers he was looking at.
