Ballpark
I know boys and girls..it's been a while since I posted but that's what happens when school and work take over your life. Today's topic at hand will be whether or not the Rangers should consider going to the City of Dallas or Ft. Worth and seeing if they can get a retractable roof park in one of the downtowns. Would you be for it? against it? I personally think that would be awesome and solve a lot of this teams problems. Economics aside, would you support that idea and why so?
Also, I strongly favor this team trading away milly, padilla, young, and blalock and signing sheets.

Dallas
They wouldn’t pony up for the Cowboys- why would they do it for the Rangers?

Not to mention
Rangers Ballpark is only 14 years old. There’s no way it’s going to be replaced until at least the year 2030, especially in this economy. Hicks is having trouble getting financing for a stadium in Liverpool, a team which badly needs a new field (their current one is 100+ years old) and they draw far better than the Rangers.

why replace it
its not a shitty park

cuz
I think it wouldnt cost Dallas as much for the Rangers and also because maybe Dallas felt like they got it wrong with the Cowboys and realize this is their chance to make up for it in a way
Free Palestine!
I think it's a non issue
But if it were Arlington would step up to the plate again and keep the Rangers here.

I advocate a move
But I can’t answer “Yes” because that implies that I am also ok with them moving to Ft. Worth. If they move, I want them to move to Dallas only. I am so pro moving to, say, Fair Park it’s silly. My negative feelings towards the Rangers moving to stupid Ft. Worth where nobody likes them anyways are equally as intense.
If they moved to Ft. Worth...
…I don’t stop being a fan, I just only go to like 2 games a year instead of 20 or 25. If they were in Dallas, I’d easily go to 40 games every year.
Ft. Worth is far away.
Dallas
is far away for Tarrant Countyers
If they moved to Dallas I’d probably only make it to a handful of games.

I'm
not saying that it’s gonna happen or that it will. I’m asking what you think of such a move and would you personally support it. I know it’ll never happen

Arlington, fine. Fort Worth, OK. Dallas, never.

I think
What they really need to do is FORCE Arlington to join DART, and get some Rail transportation there. What a backwards place, just amazing…
There is NO
mass transit to the ballpark?!? That’s sad.
"The Gerald Laird trade is a GREAT SUCCESS! Who'd we get for him again?"
Tom Hicks
I can understand there not being mass transit for Cowboy games in Arlington.
Ranger games on the other hand…

it's ridiculous..
they wonder why ticket sales are plummeting. I’ve been to enough Yankee games to realize the importance of mass transit. Tens of thousands of fans take the trains to each and every game.
I’m not saying that would be the case in Arlington but still ….even if it were a few thousand.

heh and i know why they originally didnt have it – anyone else?

Oh I know about that
I actually wrote a paper on it in college.
But I don’t see how anyone, even the citizens of Arlington could force the city to join DART.

You're Right
Only thing that might force them to DART is the threat of moving, and those teams won’t do that, so it’s no threat. Obviously, Jerry Jones doesn’t care or he wouldn’t have located to Arlington in the first place. I think they don’t mind having their customers pay steep parking prices.
Oh,
I guess The Rangers and the Cowboys. Bascially, Arlington doesn’t want to pay for DART. Arlington wouild prefer low income people live some place else.
Light rail
There is no remaining reason not to run it off the TRE right of way at Centreport, or DART in cooperation with TRE. Floods twenty years ago took out the rail bridge across the Trinity River east of 360, and I recall saying at the time “there goes rail transit to the Ballpark and Six Flags”. Had no notion the Cowboys would also locate there. The southbound tracks basically run through the GSW industrial park, and the section of Arlington just north of the GM Plant isn’t particularly “pretty or of historical significance”.
I don’t know if the routing via Centreport, which requires replacement of a rail bridge, is the optimal trek or not. But given the traffic, the parking quandry, and the potential gain in entertainment district revenue, it’s time for rail to come to the Arlington Planning Commission table. Too bad the lack of rail has lasted long enough to have a serious recession hit before it’s such an obvious choice.

now
that the big cowBOYS have moved to arlington..i am sure they will go ahead and get a DART system in place. The fact that they don’t have one now upsets and confuses me.
Free Palestine!
Not sure...
….if the tram system would help the homeless and/or crime element get out of Arlington or find their way into Arlington.
I grew up in Arlington, and moved away for a number of years due to business stuff. I often talk to people who do not like Arlington because of the crime now. I’ll be honest, and say that I am not very proud of what Arlington has become…in certain sections.
There is a very significant gang problem on the East and Southeast part of Arlington, especially with several Asian “gangs”/criminals. The East side of Arlington was the worst part back in the day, but it is obviously gotten progressively worse. There are certain areas where Arlington is rotting from the inside.
The entirety of 360 and about a mile on each side of it is really bad. Division St. and Abrams filter all that crap into the middle of the city. The new Cowboys stadium will help “force” Arlington to begin shutting down the prostitution and drugs along Division.
I am privvy to some info regarding developments along Division St. due to some nefarious relationships I have with several folks that conduct certain business around this area. They know they are getting moved out eventually. Additionally, several businesses to the West of Cooper will begin shutting down during the next 2 years….and I mean SEVERAL. Why? The oil/gas companies have reached agreements to purchase the land and assets on many of the properties in this area. In these agreements, they have made no secret of their intentions to demolish the buildings and drill on certain properties. I know this by having some contact with the people that have owned this land for a long, long time. Who, by the way, are getting filthy rich in these deals.
In my opinion, they have helped create the unattractive nature of this area for years. I, in part, blame them for what Division St. has become (worse than it has ever been). Even though I am on friendly terms with them, I still am critical of their historic greed, despite the costs to the community.
I guess I don’t know if I want the rail system for Arlington or not, but I certainly don’t want the buses. Screw the Buses! All I know, is that I would prefer the rail system, if implemented, only allowed people to leave Arlington for the next couple years. After everything starts getting fixed along Division, maybe start letting people travel into Arlington….hoping they don’t find any room at the inn.
