Nate Gold update
I post this primarily because I know there are some Nate Gold supporters who read LSB...
First baseman Nate Gold is a minor-league free agent who has been advised to seek opportunities elsewhere.

Are we done mourning Gerald Laird yet?

So I’m not going to say anything at all.

Final thoughts on the Winter Meetings.
Boring.
I really didn’t expect much to happen this week (at least, not much that we would hear about), and I certainly am not advocating that moves should have been made for the sake of keeping us entertained, but just once I would like to see us go into the meetings with the usual buildup of anticipation and actually have that anticipation satisfied.
Even with Nolan dropping hints here and there, this year’s Winter Meetings has been an utter snooze-fest.
no
i guess i don’t know why people are hyped about the winter meetings, per se. seems like something does end up happening not too many weeks after the winter meeting anyway. and the winter meetings at least lay the foundation for some moves in the future
Mandatory reading before suggesting a trade
So does he say:
JD (shouting after NR as he walks away):
Don’t you know sarcasm when you hear it?
And then he directs the school play?

Nolan on the Winter Meetings:
“I’m disappointed nothing is happening. There is a lot of time, money and effort that’s gone into these meetings and it doesn’t look like they’re very fruitful.”
Stability is key, and JD is a Beast.

At least some possibilities arose that can still happaen
My offseason outlook is a little better
the preceding post was a great success.
Maybe he can join
Jason Botts.
Nolan Ryan is the Greatest Pitcher ever, because Google says so.

Does anyone else find it strange that the reason why the Peavy to the Cubs deal fell through is because the Cubs refuse to give up Mark Derosa? Who would have thought that a few years ago?

Holy crap
that guy still exists? I remember reading something on LSB sometime last offseason where there was real talk of him possibly being a part of the 1B equation…
That's too bad for Nate
He’s a really good guy. I had hoped the Rangers would find a use for him soon.

Random woman: "When are you getting married, Micah?"
Me: "Probably never. In fact, at this point, it's tempting to just adopt more cats."
I'm so jealous of all the other clubs who are actually doing stuff.
I know standing pat and just bide our time as we wait for our kids to mature is prolly the smart long term play, but I can’t help but hope we make some sort of improvements for next year.
Trading Laird and Padzilla and adding Wood and Sheets was the dream.
Bah…
The 40 Trumps All!!!
There are two kinds of men in this world: Men who make jump throws, and men who wish that they were Derek Jeter so that they could make jump throws.
How many is that really though
Im certainly not jealous of the twins signing punto, the mariners/indians end of their trade, pickups like loretta and such…
There are only a few teams who have really dont moves Im jealous of. Like the yankees spending ridiculous amounts of money.
Until Sheets signs with another team for a reasonable contract im OK.
the preceding post was a great success.
Lots of teams are doing stuff I'm jealous of.
The Braves getting Javy Vasquez. Mets trading a grab bag of crap for Putz. Yanks getting Nick Swisher for peanuts. Sawx signing Tazawa. D-Rays jettisoning the shit that is Edwin Jackson. There are others.
The Laird trade was nice, but I was kind of hoping we’d use the FA market to gear up a little for ’09 rather than sit and wait for ’10.
It’s early and I know we could still do it, but it’s just getting boring watching other teams actively try to get better while we wait. How much more of this can Old Direction Changer take before he fires JD and lets Nolan install his sons as the new co-GM’s?

We've done a little
We gained three players to the organization today alone (even though 2 suck). We’ve also added 3 more in trades over the last few weeks. That’s not too bad.
If it makes you feel any better...
…I was listening here in Houston to sports talk show callers bitch about Drayton McLane being cheap because he won’t spend more than $100 on the Astros’ payroll this year, and suggesting they are on par with the Pirates and Royals, budget-wise.

I hope you were making the obligatory dismisive wanking motion as you listened.

$100? that's a really low payroll
i don’t even think i could field a little league team for $100
