Ummm
Relief pitcher Kyle Farnsworth and the Kansas City Royals reached a preliminary agreement on a $9.25 million, two-year contract Thursday.

You forgot
The $1.8 million they’re going to pay Horacio Ramirez. Some teams have to suck for others to get better…
My best guess...
…would be that they’re trying to do like Texas did with Eric Gagne, and flip him at the deadline.
But then why the two-year deal?
Nothing about this makes sense.

Moore
I honestly think one of us could do a better job as KC’s GM.

I didn’t believe those Francouer for Greinke rumors…but…now…umm…who knows?

it makes you wonder about KC's management
I’ll offer them a bag of dirt and a Juan Gonzalez jersey for Greinke.
Wait 'til the year after next
Don't be an idiot... Moore is doing what he has to do.
It’s not like he’s getting boxed in with long-term players.
Farnsworth, Crisp and Jacobs are mere stopgaps until their ultra-cool farm starts paying off… which is about a year off our clock.

Royals
I have no real problem with the Crisp and Jacobs acquisition (although Jacobs really sucks at getting on base). But, just with some quick math, he has easily over $10 million next year devoted to his non-closers in the bullpen – that’s a very poor allocation of resources for a limited payroll team. And, he couldn’t even give Guillen and his contract away for free right now.

and . . .
I don’t know much of anything about the Royals farm system, so if he’s doing well there then he deserves kudos for that.

Yes
We’ve been through this, but I think that Hosmer and Moustakas rank with pretty much any pair of positional prospects, though they aren’t knocking on the door. And I think that they have a really nice cluster of pitching prospects ranging from Cortes down to Montgomery. You can argue about where they rank, but I think that what they supply their major league team look pretty good.

This year is basically the Royals auditioning for Greinke.
If they can compete in what should be a competitive division, then Greinke might stick around.
And if things go in the pisser, like I expect them to, he can pull off a firesale very similar to the one Daniels had in ’07.
Grienke can be flipped for what will no-doubt be a plus package of prospects…
Crisp can be flipped… (everyone’s looking for speedy outfielders at the trade deadline)
Jacobs can be flipped.
Bam… Kansas City has the best farm system next year.

The farm is good and getting better.
It reminds me of the Rays circa 2004. The Royals are putting together a talented farm system but evidence is mounting that the GM is terrible at resource allocation, major league roster building and long-term planning. Looks like a recipe for mediocrity.
If they give teams a window for Greinke
so that they could sign him to an extension prior to trade, I bet they get even more in terms of prospect value.
This is an exciting time in my life.

Well, Gordon and Butler anyway. But if we’re just going to discount all prospects because previous ones have somewhat disappointed, a discussion on how their system looks is irrelevent.
I mean Chris Davis and Justin Smoak look good, but so did Ruben Mateo, so I guess they’ll suck too.
Also, those weren’t Dayton Moore pickups anyway, so it’s coincidental at most.

and isn't it a bit early to discount those players?
Gordon had an .888 OPS in the second half, and I’m real confident that Billy Butler is going to hit in the major leagues, he was 22! last year.
Don't believe the hype about sloppy seconds. They ain't bad.

I know a KC fan who thinks Dayton Moore is the best GM in baseball.
And laughed at me for disagreeing like I was crazy.
I don't think he's great
but he’s far from the worst. It’s really difficult to rebuild, every team has different circumstances and a different talent base to start with. Sure he’s made some questionable decisions, but that organization was in very, very bad shape when he took over, from top to bottom.

Correct, and our owner
is the hardest in the league to pry any money out of. Although, Farnsworth tends to look otherwise.
BTB posted about this
here. If Moore is building a good farm system, what are his major league scouts doing? Playing practical jokes on him? Does Vegas have a gambling line open for which GM will make the worst offseason acquisition?
jinx alert
I hope Neftali Feliz doesn’t turn into Kyle Farnsworth.

Farnsworth
how does this guy keep getting big contracts??
"I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it." - Mitch Hedberg
more importantly
why would the rangers want to beat the royals to get him?

Huh?

Yeah, what?
You want Farnsworth? His 2008 WHIP was over 1.5. That is terrible.

Check out his FIP
Over a full run higher than his ERA.
