Off Topic: Tony Romo now a racist
From the "it was just a matter of time" dept, looks like one of Cahill's fellow Obama voters has some strong opinions on Romo and Witten's relationship.
According to multiple sources within the Dallas Cowboys, there is an emerging internal conflict involving three of the team's highest-profile stars.
As the preseason Super Bowl favorites struggle in the final month of the season to simply make the playoffs, wide receiver Terrell Owens has expressed resentment toward Tony Romo, apparently jealous of the quarterback's relationship with tight end Jason Witten
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3763209
But Owens seems to be finding it increasingly difficult to conceal his irritation. Last week in Pittsburgh, on the first possession of the Cowboys' most important game of the season, a team source who reviewed the game tape said Romo threw an interception when Owens mysteriously failed to complete his route. Troy Polamalu intercepted the ball at the place where Romo expected Owens to be. Later in the half, Romo underthrew a pass for Owens that was intercepted by Ike Taylor and Owens gestured openly in Romo's direction as he walked toward the sideline that the ball should have been thrown further upfield. But what upset Owens' teammates most of all was his response to the interception Romo threw on a pass intended for Witten that Deshea Townsend returned for the game-winning touchdown in a 20-13 defeat. Both the quarterback and tight end publicly accepted blame for the Cowboys' season-high fifth turnover. In contrast, Owens said the offense stunk, that the team can't win with turnovers like those and then suggested his defender was playing off in single coverage and that he was open but Romo decided to throw elsewhere on the fatal play. On the sideline, Owens was seen yelling at a Cowboys assistant coach. In his news conference after the game, Owens implied that Romo's decision to throw to Witten was the wrong one, saying, "It's his job to go out there and assess what the defense is, and he made that decision.''

that’s a pretty harsh statement, and considering it’s unwarranted it’s completely unnecessary it should never have been added.

Terrel Owen
unhappy with not enough balls thrown his way. Shocking story.
Owens, here is a novel thought, catch the ones thrown at you, and more might come your way. He’s been fairly terrible in the games I’ve seen this year.

correct
never mind that romo is 3-8 in december…
here’s my line of thinking:
romo does not favor whitten over TO or any of the other open receivers. romo is scared shitless and is whitten is in the comfort zone. romo is not comfortable, and his latest effort stealing defeat from the jaws of victory in pittsburgh supports that.

Is an extreme disappointment. T.O. always said the reason he was vocal is because he wasn’t getting the “respect” (contract , cough) he deserved in Philly. Well he’s paid Dallas and he still acts like a jackass. I really hope he didn’t drag Williams and Crayton into this bullshit. This team has the most important game of the year and we’re listening to this bullshit? Get your team under control Wade, and Jason Garrett sucks.

JG doesn't suck.
All he can do is call the plays that get them in a position to score points. He doesn’t actually get to throw the passes or make the on-field decisions that result in successful implementation of his game plan. He called a good enough game to win last Sunday. His QB let him down.

I agree Romo was crap
But Garrett has gotten insanely predictable. I think he ran to the right tackle every 1st down in the second half against the Steelers. All these pitches and end arounds to TO are a joke. If TO wants the ball he can get open.

Romo needs to start throwing more to Owens
I’ve been saying this for over a year. “Oh he’s double-teamed”. McNabb found a way to get him to him often, so can Romo/Garrett.

I'd just be happy if he could get passes within 10 feet of his intended target.
That’s what killed him in Pittsburgh. It is baffling to me how he could have been as bad as he was all night long, especially as focused as the rest of the team obviously was.

When you have a cancer
get rid of the cancer, which T.O. is, i am sick of the guy, but Jones loves him, so in my opinion this team will go NO WHERE as long as T.O. is here, sure he is talented no question about that, but individual talent only goes so far in a team sport.

Exactly...
Who would have thought that when Owens’ team isn’t winning big and in first place that he starts complaining.
I love how some of the Cowboy fans try to stick up for the guy because he’s on their team. The guy is just a selfish jackass and this is nothing new. Did you really think he would act a certain way in SF and Philly, but then when times get a little tough in big D he’d be ok with it?

Man, I'm no TO sympathizer
but I agree with him on this front, too. I don’t agree with Ed fucking Werder lurking around the Cows 24/7 and breaking every Us Weekly type gossip to ESPN, and I don’t agree with how public all this is. I can’t believe this kind of shit can’t be handled inside the clubhouse, between professional athletes and coaches being paid good money to “click”.
But Romo’s been forcing balls, like usual, only he wasn’t even close to accurate in the Pitt game. With Romo as our QB, we’re gonna have to get used to it because it’s the way he’s always been. And personally, I don’t understand why we don’t force more balls in TO’s direction, regardless of drops. The guy is a total playmaker, and needs to be getting 10 looks a game.

TO
Theres a difference in throwing him the ball 20 times and actually throwing the ball his way 20 times. If hes double covered theres no reason to force it in. Romo has done that a ton this year. And he does settle alot on Witten. Don’t get me wrong Witten is an amazing player and I wouldn’t trade him for any other TE in the league. But instead of settling on little 6 yard hitches sometimes if TO is being single covered let the play run its course a little. Maybe that 6 yard hitch to Witten could turn into a 30 yard catch by Owens. And there is no questioning the fact that this club is better when TO is making plays. Now JG and Romo have to get him in position and allow him to make those plays. Throwing into double coverage isn’t a playmaking situation. Put him in motion and let him run those drag routes where his size and speed allows him to run away from people.

How many of those are good targets and bad targets?
You could throw it to TO 20 times a game but if its always when hes double covered that does no good. And from watching the Cowboy games I can tell you Romo throws to TO in double coverage waaaaaaaaay too often. All TO has said is that when hes open he should get the ball. Nothing wrong with that. The problem some of the time is Tony settling for Witten on a short quick route and not letting TO complete his route and get a big play.

I agree
And what’s more, I think Garrett is doing a poor job. It seems the receivers are all-too-often either gunning it straight downfield or screening. I would actually place this more on Garrett than Romo: what’s Romo supposed to do when his receivers are covered downfield cause they don’t break the bump very well and Witten’s just sitting in the middle of the defense? I don’t think we’re seeing enough curls or crosses, or whatever else it would take to utilize these WRs effectively.
It’s hard to not agree with Owens, though, when you look at the last few games. And please—can we stop using Thrown To as dispositive of this argument? Not all throws are created equal.

Well
We’re both talking in the abstract here, of course. There are plays where guys get open and plays where they don’t. If a guy gets open on a poorly-designed play, he might be doing it in spite of Garrett, and it may cause a problem in the progression. Who knows?
I would never put all the blame on one or the other. Romo’s played poorly of late and Garrett has called poorly of late.
