Saturday morning stuff

Nothing really out there today, other than the fact that Doug Mathis was non-tendered, which was covered last night.

Willie Eyre was a possible non-tender, but the fact that the Rangers didn't indicates, to me, that he's likely to start the season in the Ranger bullpen.

Eyre

Just what every bullpen needs. A guy who doesn’t strike anybody out and allows a ton of base runners. I did see something funny on his BR page though. His middle name is Mays. Willie Mays Eyre……I am sure there is some Willie Mays Hayes “runs like Mays” joke in there somewhere.

Yah, I remember the talk about his middle name from 2007

It’s just as uninspiring as everything else about him. The Willie Eyre I remember from ’07?

Eyre, use him, dump him

Use Eyre for garbage time and to save other arms, dump him later in the season when you’re ready to find out about someone younger.

With Ibañez going to the Phillies

the Cubs are said to be focusing on Milton Bradley and that he is now their singular priority

May not be news, but at least I didn’t make a fanpost out of it.

I wish Milton the best, but

Frankly, I’d rather see him sign with an NL team so’s we don’t have to pitch to him next year.

I wonder how MB's

phillies sign ibanez, cubs going after Bradley

do these teams not realize they don’t have a DH? what in the hell are they thinking?

also, hendry should have locked himself in a room with towers and hammered out a deal for Peavy. That rotation would have been just ridiculous. maybe even rediculous. instead, cubs fans get about 300 ABs from Bradley and another long winter.

Phillies

They’ve lived with Pat Burrell in left for years now, so Ibanez isn’t too much different for them. It’s a small left field with Victorino in center, so I don’t think they care too much.

Ibanez to Phillies

The hilarious thing about that signing is that the Phillies stated that they didn’t want to bring Burrell back because improving the OF defense was a priority. Then they go and sign one of only 2 outfielders that is actually worse than Burrell defensively.

Burrell was ranked as the third worst LF defender, Ibanez second worst, and Manny leading the list. So, they got worse defensively, which was tough to do, and also lost a lot of offense going from Burrell to Ibanez. These are the type mistakes that JD just wouldn’t make, and as everybody knows, I’m not exactly a sunshine pumper.

Don't believe the hype about sloppy seconds. They ain't bad.

So you’re saying that Gillick managed to accomplish something here?

This is an exciting time in my life.

The LSB CPP's are in full bloom.

I'm hoping to see AJ on the Yankee's DL and Pavano bounce back in Toronto.

I’d really enjoy giving the Yankees a Nelson laugh over that.

Go Rangers!
