New scoreboards
In addition to the new front row seat embroglio, the Rangers are going to add some new color scoreboards. The improvements will cost $4 million, so don't complain if they don't sign Ben Sheets!
I'll be interested in how the scoreboard on the left field wall looks, personally.

Well
Considering fans have been complaining about the outdated scoreboards at TBiA for about a decade now its nice to see them actually do something to enhance the experience for fans. If you are going to put out a mediocre product on the field, which is what a .500 team is, then you better do something to not only get fans to the ballpark but keep them once they are there.

Question....
I remember hearing something about a small change or addition in the uniforms for next year? Two questions….
1.What changes were announced?
2.When will we get to see those changes?
I looked around and didn’t find anything about it.

A few things
I’ve heard that the uniform design will be tweaked, which I hope means the dropping of black. A red alternate and hat are definitely going to be added, and I’ve read rumors that all jerseys, home and away, will now say Texas with none of them saying Rangers. I doubt that, because of how rare it would be, but it’s all I’ve heard.

We’re moving our seats over to the first base side next season, so we should have a nice view. Sounds like it ought to be interesting.

I was about to ask Chuck if they were going to do it this year finally
He had mentioned to me earlier in the season that it was probably going to happen since Nolan is on board with the idea now. He also told me his initial draw up of what he wanted could rival that of what they have going on at the new Cowboys stadium. So that could be cool..

Scoreboards
How long is that LF wall? About what 90 feet or so. That would be half as long as the one in the new Cowboys stadium and probably about as tall if not taller. I wonder if its gonna be HD quality which could be what he is referring to.

I mean he also has only one side to deal with instead of two or four. But still, if the entire project is four million (including the work behind home plate), it’s a little hard to picture the one board being too majestic.

Yeah
There are alot of things the Rangers won’t have to deal with that the Cowboys do. The structure the scoreboard affixes to doesn’t have to be built like it does for the Cowboys. It doesn’t have to hang from anywhere. Basically the cost is the only main expense of it.
Also I am wondering if this means they are going to push back the wall a few feet. Since the new scoreboard will theoretically just replace what is there what happens to the space where the guys used to work in back there? Its only a few feet but I imagine they won’t add seats so will they push the wall back?

I actually liked the manual scoreboard, but I just read this as “more advertizing” on the linear ribbon boards. I read the article as saying the lower left field board will be split between video and the “old fashion” electronic scoreboards as opposed to all video like the cowboys new board or Godzillatron at UT

I agree about the manual scoreboard...
I kind of liked it and thought it added a bit of old time feel to a newer park.

New Scoreboards
I read zywica’s first thread…just so you know….the addition of the new video boards have no impact on the ability of the club to sign any players…doesn’t work that way.
This has been an on going discussion and planning for several months, in my case, I have been presenting plans and ideas to ownership for scoreboard upgrades since the 1996 season. I always wanted the fans in right field to have some sort of replay to see.
On the dudeabides comments….the manual scoreboard will be a full color video board…that is where we will show a replay for the fans in right field. It will not display the out of town scores like the “old fashion” eletronic boards, it will display the out of town scores with a diamond to show the runners on base and number of outs in the out of town games……all boards being installed are LED video boards…again they are video boards…..not electronic scoreboards……
The distance to left field will not change…the video board will fit into the frame of the manual scoreboard…….
the ribbon panels will have advertising, but they will also display a lot of game information for the fans in right field and other places that can’t see the main scoreboard.
The main video board will remain the same…the centerfield board and main scoreboard will be the same…..those will be updated in the coming years.
thedudeabides is right in the fact that this shouldn’t be confused with what is happening next door or the size of the video board at UT, but they are still going to be video boards that will change the atmosphere and look of the ballpark…..
To compare, the amount of feet of ribbon panels that we are installing will be the third longest in baseball behind Dolphin Stadium and the new Yankee Stadium….second longest if you count baseball only stadiums……….
It is a nice committment from Mr. Hicks and Nolan Ryan……
But again, understand that the additional scoreboards are improvements to the ballpark and a completely different bucket than the baseball bucket to sign players.
If you have any questions, please email me at cmorgan@texasrangers.com or you can always call at 817 273-5006.
Thanks
Chuck

Other ballparks
Ribbon panels will be similar to Dodger Stadium’s…..Angels Stadium…..
Out of town board similar to Cleveland……
This will be the latest and greatest from Daktronics…pixel pitch will be their latest, so the video quality will be pretty good…color will be outstanding…..
There will be plastic netting in front of the video board in left field to keep players and baseballs from hitting the board…..

But I see games at Angel and Dodger stadium all the time, and those things are lame. The RBiA is a ballpark, not a basketball stadium or a video arcade.

yea I actually agree with you here. I don’t like the seizure inducing/ very distracting nature of them. And when they aren’t doing that they are ads so I don’t find that they add anything for the fans that a little scoreboard like the ones they have now couldn’t have already accomplished. But I am crotchety so you probably don’t want to be associated.

Very Funny, and nice press release from T.R. Sullivan. He must still be in mailbag mode. That will be a good view, but very dangerous. This has to be the closest to the action at any ballpark ever. Will there be a walkway for the basepaths to help the runners get through?
