Pettitte mystery contract for 3/$36?
Could it be that the Rangers are the mystery team? Another option for an old grizzly vet that could come in and teach the young pitchers a thing or two?

http://www.nj.com/yankees/index.ssf/2008/12/rumors_suggest_andy_pettitte_o.html
Now rumors suggest Andy may have upwards of a three-year, $36 million contract waiting for him...somewhere.
Where exactly this contract is exists remains a mystery. According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, "Pettitte's people" are spreading rumors of an alleged deal with a mystery team:
It isn't believed that this $36-million claim has moved the Yankees to change their offer by even one dollar, which could indicate they question whether such an offer exists.

Dear god please no
Wouldn’t touch him with a ten foot pole
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
Why?
Three years would be more than I’d be willing to give him, but why wouldn’t you want Pettitte?
Pettite
Hes getting old, the whole steroids thing makes me believe when he does decline it will be rapid and not end well, and I don’t think his attitude would be good in our clubhouse. Thats just a personal opinion however

Andif you're gonna do that for Pettite
might as well go the little extra and get the upgrade in Sheets.

Would Sheets come with
A chunky gold “Upgrade” in his mouth?

+1
sheets > pettitte
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

Doubt it
That is exactly the type of contract JD is avoiding right now. Multiple years for a guy over 35.. don’t see it happening.
not multi year though
Or at least we hope not

don't think it would be the Astros either

Usually mystery teams aren't so obvious, though.

I proposed this.
The Dodgers have Kuroda, Billingsley and Kershaw… and not much else.

if the yankees don't sign Pettite
most reports say that the Yankees will try to sign Sheets.
That’s not good for us…….sigh
Wait 'til the year after next
If the Yankees
end up with Sabathia, Burnett, and Sheets. That truly would be ridiculous!
I don't buy it
I don’t believe that any team would give him a 3 year deal, especially if the only purported other deal out there is a one-year $10 million dollar contract.
G G G E-flat_______ F F F D__________....
If true it would have to be a team who really loved him and thought the only way to get him to pitch anywhere but the Bronx or Houston was to drive a dumptruck full of money up to his house.
I guess the Dodgers make a bit of sense in this scenario just cause of the Torre connection, but other than that I really can’t see a team falling that hard for Andy Pettitte when there are so many other options out there.

I can certainly see him
asking for 3 years, I just cannot conceive of a team just offering it right out.

Would the Nationals do it?

I can't imagine why they would.

Mark Teixeira.

If they are serious about signing Teixeira
It might help to sign someone like Andy Petitte to show that they’re gonna try to compete. To sign either of those players, they’re gonna have to be the highest bidder, probably by a bit.

But why sign Andy Pettitte when there are better guys out there?
I can see them wanting to make a statement by signing a pitcher, but I can’t see why they’d be obsessed with Andy Pettitte. There are better guys on the market right now.

That's tougher to explain.
He will sign the shortest and cheapest contract of the quality pitchers out there…?

You're trying way too hard.
The simplest explanation is the 3 year offer is bullshit.
G G G E-flat_______ F F F D__________....
I would place a bet on the Braves.
They swoop in and make deals frequently, as in the Furcal situation. They are known to be not that interested in Sheets, and they are at least putting up a posture of unwillingness to trade Escobar. Yet, they need pitching.
Go Rangers!
I don't see us going after Pettitte
Basically, if we go after Pettitte we’ll lose out on Sheets because from what I’m hearing, Pettitte might be the only thing between the Yankees making a run at Sheets and our pathetic efforts at trying to land him. We obviously wouldn’t be able to compete with the Yankees… so showing any interest in Pettitte right now would be pretty dumb on our part, IMO.
"I´d like to apologize in advance for anything that I may say or do that could be construed as offensive as I slowly go NUTS."
I've always liked pettitte,
met him as a kid in Rochester when he was playing for the Columbus Clippers(along with Jeter and Andy Stankowitz-spelling check anyone).
I agree three years is a little long, however, he is a lefty and is still a very productive pitcher in my eyes. He would slot nicely behind Milly and Padz, but Sheets looks better there if we are offering 36 million.
