Friday afternoon video
A tribute to the responses from the DMN and FWST, after the story broke that the DMN was going to stop covering the Rangers and just run the FWST's stories:

i always liked the concert in the park version of "the boxer" the best
Mandatory reading before suggesting a trade
lol, very true words "hello darkness, my old friend"
EG will be missed
Wait 'til the year after next
Evan isn't going anywhere
And the DMN would never stop covering the Rangers.
For the DMN to let the Star-Telegram completely cover the Rangers would be one of the biggest money mistakes the paper has ever done. I grew up reading the DMN with my Dad and I going and getting the paper on our driveway (OK maybe not all the drama it seems, but I do rem. getting the paper with my dad) nearly every morning. And I also now get the DMN delivered to my home.
One would think...
….that if the stories were crap, some editor or spokesman for one of the papers would step up and deny it.
Which is why I picked this song…what we’ve gotten, to date, is the sound of silence…

Yep
if it was in no way true Grant would have been on this blog himself setting the record straight.
G G G E-flat_______ F F F D__________....
Evan does post here sometimes
but, yeah. I doubt he’d take sometime to let us know what is really fucking going on.
You know Evan did do a RPIA.
OK.. I need to wrap up some paper work and shit and get ready to go home
that's why I said
this was a good choice for this friday afternoon video.
I’m more frustrated than I’m disapointed. Of course this would be a huge let down for me that the Dallas Morning News would give up on the Texas Rangers and let the Star-Telegram take over the news and the beat. The beat is the important thing here IMO.
We do have TR with mlb.com who is the beat writer who btw most of us jnow he was with the Star-Telegram before leaving for mlb.com But. why the hell get rid of Grant as the DMN beat for the Rangers. Just doesn’t make sense or good business.
well done
This whole situation is terribly infuriating.

That's a big part
He just looks like a giant douche
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Art Garfunkel
I know a guy who totally has Art Garfunkel’s hair. And like Garfunkel, he’s a Jewish guy from New York. No idea if they’re related.

that was nice ...
of Art to lend that dude his hair.

One of the top 10 songs of all time...
and Garfunkel rules.
Simon’s monotone harmony is brilliant.
I'd love for part of the "new look" to be a return to the red uniforms of the 1990s. - Ian Kinsler
I'm not saying it's not a good song.
Not even saying that it is not in fact one of the 10 best ever written. I’m just saying to declare any song one of the 10 best of all time is extreme! But sometimes you just have to live EXTREME. Ask Milton Bradley.
dude, whatever.
Extreme sucks.

One of the 10 most
bold statements EVER MADE!
Well it's not Indie
so we know you wouldn’t like it

Word.
I think I wrote about Simon’s harmony in that song in more than one Bound Edition.

I read what you wrote about Salty and winter ball in your site. The guy is really on fire. I want to know how is he doing defensively over there. Has he progressed defensively at all? Also, do you think he is worth keeping or will we be able to get Buchholz or another young pitcher because of this performance?

Salty
Impossible to weigh in on his defense strictly from the box scores, but he has improved in the running game. Early on he’d gunned down several runners, and in fact I think the first one or two who stole on him were actually on the front or back end of a double steal.
Love his potential, but if he can bring Buchholz, gotta make that trade.

quick OT - EPL pics
For just pics taken from the stands, these are pretty well done - kinda atmospheric.
Simon and Garfunkel, eh?
On behalf of my Dad, who tries to convince me of their greatness all the time, thumbs up.
"I´d like to apologize in advance for anything that I may say or do that could be construed as offensive as I slowly go NUTS."
The quirkiness of music is that Paul Simon
is one of the best songwriters ever but it took a spare like AGarfunkel to put him over the top.
Pete Townshend by himself was always brilliant but the only reason his musical career went over the top is because he was with Daltrey, Moon, & John E.

That's
Not really a good analogy. In my opinion, Simon made his best music when he left Garfunkel.
Townshend has a fine voice for backup vocals and the occasional lead, but he couldn’t sing the songs he wrote. Daltrey could fucking rock (and I saw them two years ago, and he still can). While Ent and Moon were fantastic players, the Who were built on the two frontmen.

Simon by himself was good but with Art G they were great...
The flirtation with South Africa was unique but it doesn’t stand the test of time. Still Crazy After All These Years is a good song.
I saw The Who in 1980 at Reunion Arena and it is still the best concert I ever saw…and that was almost 2 years after Moon died. Moon & John E were every bit as important as Daltrey, possibly more.
VH1 Classic had a special on the greatest albums ever made last week that featured Who’s Next. It was supposed to be a movie, rock opera somesuch called “Lifehouse.” The only person that really grasped the entire concept was Townshend and everybody connected to the band just nodded about the grandiose plans but they all agreed the music was unbelievable. Who’s Next is still great but it’s not as good as Quadraphenia (still the best album ever made).

Quadraphenia
Is the best Who album, but I can’t support you on that last claim…
And you can’t honestly say that Graceland doesn’t stand the test of time. That’s some brilliant shit.
by brettgardner on Dec 20, 2008 1:07 AM CST up reply actions
Graceland is good but give me
Sound of Silence, The Boxer, etc. …the true timeless music. Part of what made Graceland unique was incorporating SAfrica into the album. Yeah, it was neat but upon further review, they’re just spinning plates and trying to be trendy.
Really great music? meh.
Good for you on Qphenia…
"Dying ain't hard. It's living that's hard."
I should probably add that
unless the music has an extreme cheese factor, criticism of what others like is fairly meaningless because music means different things to different people. Kinda like asking when Neil Young was at his best (to me better as a solo artist but awfully good with Buffalo Springfield & CSNY).
Like Neil Young, Paul Simon is one of the single best songwriters I’ve ever listened to but personally (key word), I thought his window of true greatness and the best music he ever made happened with Garfunkel but I’ll allow that others may differ.

Simon and Garfunkel = greatness
The best part is that I can totally kick each of their asses.
Damn good songs, but 2 of the biggest pussies you’ll ever come across in your life.
How did Simon get to give the business to Princess Leia?

She thought he was a little Ewok?
Seriously though, he is married to Edie Brickell, which was strange to me, even at the time.
I miss 1989. I miss 1996. Please make me miss another season in 2008.
I think so...
DBalis on The Ticket has mentioned seeing him with Brickell.
Carter Albrecht played piano for Brickell when she was on Letterman a few years ago and I remember hearing a segment on it.
