Remember this guy?
I was looking at the Portland roster, trying to figure out who Hayhurst & Co. played the Japan teammate bathing prank on (my guess is Bryan Mowry, although Chip Ambres is also a possibility), when I stumbled across this guy on their roster.
Does anyone else remember, back in 2003, when he emerged as a sort of sleeper prospect, a guy who showed up on the map and produced some cautious optimism that he could maybe become a solid major league pitcher?
Then he had some injury issues and fell off the map, although he did join the migration of former Ranger prospects in the Padres organization.
Anyway...just a weird flash seeing the name of someone I hadn't thought about in years.

One of many
“watch out for…” prospects that never panned out.
Don't believe the hype about sloppy seconds. They ain't bad.
that 2003 Frisco team
is a pretty sad sight. I remember being pretty damn hyped up about Nix, Nivar, Murray, Wilson, Ramos and Kozlowski, and all we have to show for it is Wilson. Sobering, especially on this day as we celebrate the new Sickels list.
Holland has a little...
Koz in him.
I hope things end up better for Holland after the soaring heights I imagined Kozlowski would take us to.

No. Check their peripherals.
Koz never in his best years struck out a batter an inning and his k/bb ration hovered around 2.5:1 at it’s best, where as Dutch rocks a nearly 4:1.
Holland is a far superior prospect than Koz was even after Koz’s big breakout year.

Yeah...
I would say Holland is a superior prospect. That’s very true.
I’m just reminiscing of old prospect loves of mine. Maybe Dutch can perfect where Koz promised.

There needs to be
an “Edwin Moreno Award” given to the player who comes out of relative nowhere, shows a flash of potential in an advanced league (AA or AAA) only to disappear as quickly as they emerged.
I nominate Luis Mendoza for that award for the 2007-2008 years. The question is who is the most likely candidate for 2008-2009?
ouch
let’s hope not

As I was writing that I thought that same thing
but I didn’t want to be the curmudgeon that wrote it down.
Someone had to do it
I don’t think it will happen, but people have to know that there is a chance it happens.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

you mean like toe nash?
Morlan was considered a good prospect?
Hmmm… I honestly don’t remember him.
Those peripherals scream fluke to me. Not enough K’s (74 in 112 IP’s) and not a very good k/bb. Maybe if he was really young for his level, but he wasn’t, really. Was he supposed to be projectable or did the scouts love him or something? Or was he an “Oh, look at the pretty ERA!” kind of guy?

Going back and looking...
…he was actually on the 40 man roster…

Wow. I guess the 40 didn't trump all back then and we could just give out spots willy nilly.

Notice a lot of changes to the scouting department
today in the FWST blog. I dint know if these are just routine changes or what
Nope.
