But right now its edge of the seat for D-Ware.

Ware or Merriman now?
That was the big question on draft day.

I think that question was answered
the day Merriman tested positive

I have never thought that question was fair.
And anyone I know who watches the entire NFL agrees: Ware does more things better than Merriman, and it more than makes up for the pass rush difference. I do think Merriman is better at running forward, though.

Genuinely curious as to what happens f this offseason. I know Garrett is the guy-in-waiting, but he’s calling some shitty plays, not adjusting very well, and, more than anything, he’s just the guy in charge of this shitty play.

The thing that I don't understand...
is why isn’t someone mentoring Romo and getting in his face and telling him to quit throwing the ball up for grabs. Isn’t that Garrett’s job?

the second interception
it wasn’t “throw it up for grabs”
it was romo not throwing it hard enough. it’s a throw he should be able to make. you can’t fix that with mentoring

So. . . I’m not understanding your point.
by philkid3 on Dec 20, 2008 10:21 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
The point is...
playing this game to win and making it not matter.
Controlling ones destiny and such. The Cowboys had the ability to make what the teams do tomorrow not matter tonight.
by ghostofErikThompson on Dec 20, 2008 10:23 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
They did.
So? They only would have been able to control their destiny because of other teams having lost earlier.

Yeah..
cool. Backing into the playoffs is okay. I understand.
by ghostofErikThompson on Dec 20, 2008 10:26 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
What?
I’m not sure you understand basic logic here. If getting in because a team loses is backing in, then most teams back in.
Even the Giants this year, really.
by philkid3 on Dec 20, 2008 10:27 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
No...
I understand trying to figure out how the Cowboys can still qualify for the playoffs. What I am saying is, those previous 15 weeks had already been played and left the Cowboys in a position to win out to make the playoffs. They didn’t do it. Making the playoffs now is contingent upon other factors other than how the Dallas Cowboys played. If you are counting on a loss in week 16 and possibly week 17, you’re backing into the playoffs.
This team, the one we watched tonight, they don’t deserve it.
by ghostofErikThompson on Dec 20, 2008 10:34 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
By the way...
I’m looking at this at an emotional stand point and not the logical stand point of how the team qualifies for the playoffs, so, without fail, my argument is flawed.
With all I’ve said, I hope TB and Atlanta get killed tomorrow and the Cowboys have something to play for next week. But, with what I just witnessed tonight, it’s hard to look for the hows and whys the Cowboys can sneak into the playoffs when they couldn’t even take care of that business on the field for themselves.

Really
The loss doesnt matter THAT much. Still prolly gonna come down to that philly game. Just need TB OR Atlanta to lose one game along the way. Best chance rides on that Minnesota-Atl game.
I’m not all that surprised at the loss, Cameron is a beast, and they have a defense too.
I like our chances in Philly for some reason, too.
Somebody on ESPN radio claimed Philly is out of the playoffs if they lose tomorrow, hmm, I really dont see how that can be. TB and ATL could lose all their remaining games, and if Philly beat us in the last game, they’d have the WC. Right?
by Sharky on Dec 21, 2008 8:09 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
And..
It woulda more than likely come down to the Philly game anyway.
Only difference being now we need TB or ATL to lose on, and if Philly loses today they’re not out.
But it’s unlikely Philly would lose today anyway. So not too much changes really. Wasnt a conference loss.

Per Matt Mosley at ESPN:
“The Cowboys (9-6) now find themselves on the outside looking in for the final wild-card playoff spot. They will root for the Bucs, Falcons, Eagles to lose Sunday and the Bears to fall Monday. Then they’ll need to take care of business Dec. 28 in the regular-season finale in Philadelphia, which seems like such a far-fetched idea in the wake of Saturday’s performance.”

So why is TB 10-5
In your link?
Fix hat before it has any credibility.
Look, theres ONE unforseen matchup here that I dont know the results of, if Minn, Dall, and TB end up tied for the WC. Thats because it would revert to common games, which I haven’t/dont feel like working through.
But “gurus” at blogging the boys are claiming Dallas wins and they’re in, so that’s my best guess right now.
by Sharky on Dec 21, 2008 4:43 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I tried
and can’t. I believe the next tiebreaker would be common opponents, but there has to be at least four games to count and the only common opponent for all three teams is GB, so there aren’t enough games for this. Then it’s strength of victory and I don’t know what that means.

Question
Now that TB lost…. does Atlanta still need to lose one of the next two?
Since TB lost and if Philly loses, does that put Dal in the driver seat again if they win at Philly next week?
by nutsonthetable on Dec 21, 2008 3:58 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Beat Philly we're in
Period.
Tampa automatically comes out of all tiebreaker scenarios as our competition from the South. If ATL wins their two games, then they’re 11-5 and it’s irrelevant, Tamp is our WC comp from the South. If Atl loses one game, it will be a conference loss and TB moves ahead by conf record. If ATL loses two they’re out anyway.
So basically forget ATL from that division.
Forget Philly of course cus of the half game, no ties involve them.
Forget Chicago cus they have 5 conference losses. They will be eliminated from any WC tiebreaker scenario.
The ONLY scenario I’m not certain of is if Minn, Dall, and TB end up tied for the WC. It would then go to common games..somebody figure that out for me LOL..Every other scenario I’m certain Dall is in if they win.

What I said about ATL not being able to come out of the south is false lol..
Because if ATL and TB are tied, the tiebreakers reverts to division tiebreaker to eliminate one of them, so we’re back to common games… (they’d both be 3-3 in Div)
Sigh..

well, if philly wins today that is.
they are currently down 3-0 in the 3rd.
but yes, i do believe if dallas wins they are in.
the preceding post was a great success.

Yeah
Guess I jumped the gun on that one a little bit.

Nah
It goes to common games..
Basically if two teams are tied for the WC from the same division, you first apply the division tie breaker to eliminate one before proceeding. Which goes, 1. h to h, 2. div record 3. common games.
There’s that common games bugaboo where I always stop lol..

Lets just say
Things look very good for us with the TB loss.

more good news
philly continues to look very mediocre as long as they aren’t playing terrible teams. its a very winnable game next week. that 5th seed would have been nice though considering it will likely draw arizona.

thats got to hurt for the eagles
missed the tieing TD by about a foot.

…but then again roy williams was a pro bowler last year i think too lol
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?

Never would have guessed
that Pennington would be the better QB this year.

why?
Farve has been overrated for a fairly long time….Chad’s been consistently solid.

good gosh, i didn't watch a second of football today
but these scores are amazing, Oak over Houston? Seattle over NYJ?? Philly only puts up 3? Buffalo beats denver IN denver?? What happened to ‘Zona after they clinched a playoff spot? If an 8-8 team gets into the playoffs and a 9-7 team doesn’t in the same conference, just wow…Both West divisions are absolutely pathetic.
Stupid 4 divisions, stupid NFL…

File this under "It Could Be Worse"
After the Lions fell to 0-15 on the season, there was a heated confrontation in Rod Marinelli’s press conference. Marinelli’s defensive coordinator Joe Barry, who is also Marinelli’s son-in-law, is obviously under fire.
Well, Detroit News writer Rob Parker decided to ask Marinelli, “Do you wish your daughter had married a better defensive coordinator?”
Pretty classless move by Parker, though class has never really been his strong suit.

wow, this the same guy that's on 1st and 10?
i saw Terry Bradshaw and Strahan talking about this, saying that this guy should be fired, and he should be…and somehow i wish he’d take Skip Clueless with him…

That was uncalled for. He should be fired.
The thing about Skip is, He is a bit. He doesn’t believe half the stuff he’s saying. Then you got Woody Paige who is just old. That show sucks.

Marinelli
Even if he isn’t a great head coach, there’s no doubt that the guy has lots of class. Takes a big man to take all the heat and then just suck it up when an assclown takes a cheap shot at your family.

he may not be a great head coach
but he is a damn god coach

Nah...
He might have class, but he is a terrible coach…
His team will go down as the worst ever possibly.

uhh what?
he was very well thought of at tampa
and he will catch on somewhere else as a coach and be a damn good one (DALLASDALLASDALLAS!)
being a coach is different than being a * head * coach

I don't
want him in Dallas, I know being a coach is different than being a head coach..
He obviously can’t motivate them, and Wade is terrible at that also..
I want a guy that will kick the players ass but not so excessive like Parcells.
I want Cowher…

Early line on da boys game
Philly by 1-1.5..
Cant see that, I’d have Dallas by 4-7.
I fell really good about this game, just a gut feeling.

I feel good
about Romo turning the ball over, and continuing his reputation for late season chokery.
