Very sad news... Giles allegedly beats girlfriend since 2002 ; liable for misscarriage twice..

Brian Giles is being sued for 10 million dollars by his ex wife saying that he battered her and forced her to have the misscarrage..

http://sports.aol.com/mlb/story/_a/bbdp/ex-girlfriend-sues-giles-for-10-million/279706

http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/22825103/vp/28297104#28297104

The NBC video shows him in a club pulling her hair and punching her in the face as she falls onto the ground.

This is sad news.  This has been allegedly happening since 2002.

He allegedly hit her and threw her down stairs while she was pregnant..

She didn't just have one misscarrage because of his abuse, but two misscarrages.

Remember, This is a felony.  And he didn't do it just once, but twice...

He should be locked up.

There's a link to crime at least

This Swedish study seems to be the backbone of the research done on steroid usage and crime. Pretty much every google article I’ve seen references it.

http://archpsyc.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/abstract/63/11/1274?maxtoshow=&HITS=10&hits=10&RESULTFORMAT=&fulltext=steroid&searchid=1&FIRSTINDEX=0&resourcetype=HWCIT

It shows a link between anabolic steroids and crime – albeit surprisingly no link between violent crimes and steroids.

Then there’s this recent one http://www.ajph.org/cgi/content/abstract/98/12/2185 which from the abstract seems to actually show a relationship between violence and steroid usage. Unfortunately I don’t have a subscription so I can’t tell you any more than what’s on the abstract page.

But yeah, it’s pretty much a foregone conclusion among scientists and physicians that anabolic steroids cause agressiveness, which is probably why there hasn’t been much research on the subject.

Regardless though, I agree with KoK. All this proves is that Giles is one of the biggest douchebags in the world, not that he is a steroid user. Even if it does come out that he is a steroid user that doesn’t do anything at all to excuse this abominable behavior. Personally I think that stabbing machine invented in the previous topic would be too easy on this guy.

Steroids might make you angry, but people don’t beat women because of anger, they beat women because of ignorance.

I’ve been spitting angry at women plenty of times, but never once have ever even slightly considered the possibility of even thinking about maybe possibly striking one. And I mean NEVER.

If you beat you pregnant GF you aren’t doing it cause the steroids are making you angry, you’re doing it cause you’re a stupid ignorant piece of shit who fucktard parents did a shitty job of raising you and I hope you get waterboarded for 36 hours straight and then set on fire.

Its about psycology..

Women in those situations don’t know what to do and know nothing better than stay.

Weird how it works, but when you only know one way and you don’t know anything else you tend to stay with what you have not knowing anything else.

This happens far to often in this country, and this is just one example.

Screw it, I'm typing the lyrics out

Never Again by Nickelback

"He’s drunk again.
It’s time to fight.
She must have done something wrong tonight.
The living room
becomes a boxing ring.
It’s time to run when you see him…

Clenching his hands.
She’s just a woman.
Never Again.

I hear her scream
From down the hall
Amazing she can even talk at all.
She cries to me,
‘Go back to bed!’
I’m terrified she’ll wind up…

Dead in his hands.
She’s just a woman.
Never Again.

Chorus:
Been there before
But not like this.
Seen it before
But not like this
Never before have I seen it this bad.
She’s just a woman.
Never Again.

‘Just tell the nurse you slipped and fell’.
It starts to sting
As it starts to swell.
She looks at you.
She wants the truth.
It’s right out there in the waiting room with roses..

Looking just as sweet as he can
Never Again.

Seen it before
But not like this.
Been there before
But not like this.
Never before
Have I seen it this bad
She’s just a woman.
Never Again.
Never Again.

Break:
Father’s a name you haven’t earned yet.
You’re just a child with a temper.
Haven’t you heard don’t hit a lady?
Kicking your ass would be a pleasure.

He’s drunk again
It’s time to fight.
Same old shit
Just on a different night.
She grabs a gun.
She’s had enough.
Tonight she’ll find out how fuckin’…

Tough is this man.
Pulls the trigger as fast she can.
Never Again.

Been there before
But not like this.
Seen it before
But not like this.
Never before have I seen it this bad.
She’s just a woman.
Never Again!
Never Again!
Never Again!
Never Again!

(Sorry for the language, but that’s the song. It fits. Honestly, pretty darn good song if you haven’t heard it)

I miss 1989. I miss 1996. Please make me miss another season in 2008.

i wonder if they can void his contract

denny neagle + rockies style

The Colorado Rockies terminated the contract of pitcher Denny Neagle on Monday, three days after he was ticketed for soliciting a women for oral sex.
Neagle, 36, who hasn’t pitched since July of 2003, had one year remaining on a five-year, $51-million contract US.

In addition to the solicitation charge, he pleaded guilty to driving while impaired last year after his car hit another vehicle.

“This decision is about an organization and the fans that support it,” Rockies chairman and chief executive officer Charles K. Monfort said. “Denny’s pattern of behavior has not been consistent with what our organization represents.”

per wikipedia (yes, i know i know)

In December 2000, the Colorado Rockies signed Neagle and fellow left-hander Mike Hampton to expensive contracts. Neagle’s contract was for five years and $51 million, and his 17-19 record and 5.31 ERA over the 2001 and 2002 seasons spelled disaster for the Rockies. Due to injuries, Neagle only started seven games in 2003. He went 2–4 with a 7.90 ERA, pitching what was to be his last Major League game on July 20, 2003.

At this point, Neagle’s life derailed. He missed the 2004 season due to ligament and elbow surgeries. Then, he ran into legal problems at the end of the year, which allowed the Rockies to cancel the final year of his lucrative contract. 1 Neagle was found engaged with a prostitute and three days later caught speeding while drunk. The incident was a public humiliation for Neagle and ended his marriage.

He signed with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays before the 2005 season, but did not play due to injury.

On January 24, 2006, Neagle pleaded guilty in Jefferson County, Colorado, on one charge of patronizing a prostitute. Although the sentence can carry a maximum of a $500 fine and up to six months in prison, Neagle was only sentenced to 40 hours of community service.

On August 27, 2007, Neagle was arrested for and later pleaded guilty to driving under the influence. 2

On December 13, 2007, Neagle was mentioned in the Mitchell Report in connection with steroids.

but your team (SD) is a) off the hook for this:

3 years/$30M (2006-08), plus 2009 club option

re-signed by San Diego as a free agent 11/05
06-08:$9M annually, 09:$9M club option ($3M buyout)
$2M of 2006 salary to be paid up front
full no-trade clause in 2006, limited no-trade clause in 2007-08 (allowing Giles to block trades to 8 clubs: Baltimore, Boston, Detroit, Tampa Bay, Florida, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh and Washington)
annual salary increased by $2M if traded
San Diego exercised $9M 2009 club option 11/7/08

and as a rebuilding team you lose having to pay him the 9 mil – and not deal w/ fan blowback regarding “rebuilding” – then you spin adrian gonzalez to one of the teix losers (yankees?) make kyle blanks the 1b and go from there

They could trade him right now for a Hamburger if they wanted.

Or they could try to just void his contract due to the morals clause.

SD has a number of options if they wanted to get rid of his contract.

I was just saying it would really hurt Giles that much to be released. He’d just get signed by someone else. Maybe for a bit less money now that he has this over his head, but you’re telling me there’s not a team out there that wouldn’t be willing to take a chance on a little bad publicity to get Brian Giles on a one year ~5mm contract? Cause I’d find that rather hard to believe.

First, beating a pregnant woman to the point that she miscarries probably carries a little more scorn than just beating a woman. Not saying its right, I just think it will get more publicity. Unborn babies are precious to many.

Second, he’ll be 38 years old in Jan. He’s a really nice player, but if a team is going to take the chance on the bad pub, they better make sure that he’s going to produce from the get-go so that some of the bad pub subsides quickly.

I also think how he handles this will be a big factor in how he’s perceived. If it ever sees a courtroom, he’s screwed.

Who cares about the Padres?

There seems to be some who are lamenting at how sad it is that Giles turned out to be an awful person and that wonder if the Padres can get their money back. I say who cares about those two. The three people that we should be sad for is this poor women and the two children that Giles apparently murdered. As a person who has lost two children to miscarriages, I can tell you that it hurts. You fall in love with those children and start imagining what their life will be like the second you find out your wife is pregnant. I can’t imagine how sick you have to be to take the path Giles chose to take. I am also a parent of an adopted child and thank the Lord everyday for her birth parents making the choice to carry her for nine months.

while the plight of the woman

is truly sad, i dont think being sad for her as well as for the team are mutually exclusive. perhaps the padres heard whispers of what kind of man he was before they acquired him and before they inked that deal and simply ignored it. it wouldnt be the first time a team prioritized on the field performance over off the field character. but it doesnt seem like giles had any sort of a negative reputation in the past and it is just as likely they were caught unaware here and are probably disgusted to have someone like this representing their franchise. it sucks for them because if this were football they could do the righteous thing and cut him loose without having to pay him anything more. maybe they will cut him anyway. maybe the pads will eat his contract as a statement that this sort of behavior is intolerable in their organization. or, hopefully, they will be able to void the contract as giles is forced to deal with the criminal and civil repercussions of his actions. None of this diminishes or trivializes the sympathy we should have for the victim, and I certainly dont mean to do so by bringing it up.

I think a lot of the discussion

around his contract has something to do with some of us hoping that he loses the opportunity to earn the amount of money that he’s scheduled to make over the next several years. Speaking for myself, I don’t really care if the Padres have to pay as much as I hope the Giles never gets another paycheck the rest of his life.

I don't think it's roids

I think he’s just plain fucked in the head

We’ve never met Brian Giles; it’s possible he spends his evenings studying Proust and calculating Pi. But we doubt it. The following tidbit is from The San Diego Union-Tribune (via The Smittblog), and we’re just going to reproduce it in all its glory.

“Hey Greg, I’ve got one for you,” Brian Giles said to new Padres teammate Greg Maddux last month. “Why was the mathematics book depressed?” Giles said. After the 333-game winner pondered the question for a few seconds, Giles slowly delivered the punch line. “Because it had a lot of problems inside.”

Giles laughed as if he were the second coming of Robin Williams, slapped Maddux in the left arm and walked away. Maddux, appearing perplexed, resumed answering questions from a reporter. Giles returned a few second later, speaking slowly, like an athlete who took too many shots to the helmet. He stared into Maddux’s bemused face. “Greg, here’s another one. What kind of waves are the really small ones in the ocean?” Pause. “Micro waves.”

Giles giggled and walked back to his dressing stall. A trace of a grin appeared on Maddux’s face. Then Maddux resumed the interview. Giles returned in about 30 seconds – naked – and said, “Greg, what kind of language does a porcupine use? "Spine language.” Maddux belly-laughed. Giles roared and, now content, the right fielder made a triumphant return to his clubhouse stall. “I guess it’s funnier when he tells the joke without wearing any clothes,” Maddux said.

We don’t want overstate this, but it’s very likely that Brian Giles has a serious mental disability and needs professional help.
