MLB network info

I believe it wil be on DirectTV channel 213.

From  http://www.azsnakepit.com/2008/12/21/698944/mlb-network-is-on#comments

What is it? MLB Netowrk is baseball's exclusive channel, similar to the other major sports exclusive networks.

When will we see it? Limited programming is up now, with the full slate starting on January 1st.  Check your local listings.

How much does it cost? It's free!  MLB struck a deal with all the major cable providers and DirectTV to put in on basic cable packages, so all you need to do to get it is turn the channel.

Okay, but what games?  The Network is aiming to broadcast a game a week, but there isn't much information on that yet.  Hopefully we'll see a roving schedule, and maybe some classic games.  Unfortunately many of the first games televised don't have existing tapes anymore so I'm not sure how far back MLB can go.  Also, the World Baseball Classic will have games on the Network, and I've heard rumors of foreign games being broadcast occasionally.  How cool would that be if in a few years we could watch a weekly Japanese league game?

Does this mean I can avoid ESPN now? Pretty much!  Not only will MLB Network show games, but they have a lineup of original programming to rival the World Wide Leader.  Launching on January 1st is Hot Stove, covering trade rumors and free agents, as well as shows running down entire baseball seasons, and all-time moments like Don Larsen's perfect game.  Additionally, they will be broadcasting Ken Burn's Baseball, which is exciting to me since I've never seen it yet.

If you're a serious fan

then you’re gonna love the Ken Burns production. I nearly decided to buy it on VHS after the original broadcast on PBS. It’s worth recording. Long but good.

Fios has it on the channel guide already, but they don’t have the HD feed on the guide yet.

not that i know of

i switched to DirecTV a few months ago and its hands down the best. 2+ years ago, Dishnet was hands down the best. the worm has turned.

Why do you say that?

Just curious. I like Dish because I don’t have to buy any equipment and it’s the same price as what I could get on DTV.

when we switched

DTV was basically willing to cut off their left nut to steal us.

here’s my advice: wait till your contract is up and you’ll get a bill from dishnet for about 30 bucks more than you thought it was gonna be. you call and flip out on them. dishnet offered us showtime and hbo and the platinum package for 78 bucks a month for a year. good deal.

then take that offer and shop it to DTV. DTV offered us the same deal plus skinamaxxes and all the starz. all the premier channels are all in HD (example HBO2,3,west etc)they have a ton more sport channels in HD with all the fox sports from all over in HD and the MSGHD they have YES all of which have good stuff and local beaatwriter shows of value (NHL isnt blacked out so you get free NHL package basically, not that i care), goltv is on their sports package, plus they appear to be the company that gets the technology out fastest.

in short. DTV offered us more HD channels, more premier channels and more sports channels for a price dishnet just wouldnt match.

im a cable/satellite tv nazi. i study which guys have the best packages and what the best deal is and who has the most HD channels, b/c they are all lying f#ck$ about how many HD channels they really have. its hard to get solid numbers b/c they really dont want you to know real easy.

oh and i didnt have to buy anything, they gave us the same deal on equipment that dish did.

DirecTV

I was with them for 6yrs and they pissed me off enough that when i moved and fios tv was available i switched.

But yes, it was really easy to call up dtv and talk them into a good deal.

I didn't have to buy my DirecTV equipment

I did have to sign up for a two-year contract to get the HD receiver, though.

doesnt start till jan 9th i think

my birthday is the 10th. for my birthday i got that i dont have to watch espn for baseball coverage again.

i get my footy coverage elsewhere, nfl network is worth watching on highlight shows instead of espn b/c they actually show the highlights and discuss strategies etc, and i could give 2 shits about basketball, now baseball has its own channel. no more espn ever!!!

happy bday!!

ill never have to watch espn again, wait, im still gonna have to for my womens basketball and softball coverage and poker, but…

A question....

How will this affect watching games on MLB.com via internet? I live outside the U.S. and that makes it easy for me to keep up with the Rangers. Will there still be a full slate of games offered via the internet or will they want you to switch to cable?

Don't know about

…local channel or anything, but from the sounds of it, there is no reason that they wouldn’t carry it. MLB was uncharacteristically smart in the way they handled their relationship with providers:

Consider the situation last spring with Major League Baseball. It, too, was at swords’ points with the major cable operators after MLB sold exclusive rights to its “Extra Innings” package of out-of-market games to DirecTV, a satellite-only service that left cable subscribers out of the picture. But MLB made peace — and got itself broad cable carriage — by selling a piece of its forthcoming MLB Network to Comcast, Time Warner and Cox.
