Songs to make me feel like I'm at RBiA
It finally happened: I actually bought a device capable of playing mp3s that is not a CD player or a computer. I got the G1 phone from T-Mobile, and I'm having some fun playing with it.
That said, I'm trying to download all the songs I can that make me feel like I'm at a Rangers game.
The country staples like "God Bless Texas" and "All My Exes" just make me feel like I'm listening to the country radio station, so we'll rule those out.
I'm thinking along the lines of Johnny Cooper's "Texas to You," the Foo Fighters' "Pretender," and Pat Green's "I Like Texas." The first two I've found - the last doesn't appear to be available on the major music purchase sites yet. Which is kind of a bummer, since that's the "Rangers win" song.
(Oh, and I forgot to mention: I want to acquire all of these songs legally.)
What am I missing? Name some ballpark songs for me.

The FSN theme
that for some ungodly reason, they love to play at the Ballpark when a Ranger makes a good defensive play.
The last time I went (admittedly a few years ago) they played “Deep in the Heart of Texas” during the 7th inning stretch. I honestly didn’t realize that song had a second verse until my first Rangers game.
by Melmart1 on Dec 29, 2008 10:19 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
I probably didn't, either.
And now I bet I could do a pretty good job of going through all 3 or 4 or whatever verses it is from memory. Thanks, Chuck.

I like it when they do this. Why do you hate it so much?

Do they still play...

Ugh.
I loathe “Cotton Eyed Joe.” It makes the Rangers look like some redneck stickball club.

LOL...
I actually like the song – I always thought of it as a unique Texas twist to the stretch. “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” is the one baseball song that rubs me the wrong way for some reason…

It’s instrumental…
But now that I think about it, that might be for the best. I can’t stand Pat Green’s voice.

Don't spend more time on it unless you just really want to!
I’m downloading the one that’s in the link (but I’m getting it from walmart’s site ’cause I have some free downloads there).
There’s just nothing like hearing the intro to that song when the Rangers have won it.
Is it showing that I miss baseball season?

Walk of Life by DIre Straits
The opening keyboard riff was in an old TV spot for the Rangers that aired back in the 90’s. Great song. Always makes me think of baseball…even though the song’s about a musician, I think.
Muschamp seems like the kind of guy who used to beat up guys like Bob Stoops in high school.

Oh, wait… OMFT isn’t a Ranger anymore… nevermind.
I’d suggest finding the intro song to your favorite player (didn’t Blalock use “Symphony of Destruction” by Megadeth?) and downloading that.

the very best music
comes without any association to the Rangers. Not that I’m opposed to the idea though. Last nite was a special music nite for instance. I turn on a replay of Saturday nite’s Austin City Limits and guess who’s on? Tweedy and Wilco. Very nice to hear that in 5.1 stereo with video to boot. Doesn’t get much better than that. Btw, why didn’t anybody mention the homerun theme from the Natural?

Some songs I remember
After the Rangers win, Chuck would sometimes play “God Blessed Texas” by Little Texas. It’s country, so you might not like it. I prefer it to the Pat Green song.
Don’t know the name of it, but between innings or during a pitching change, they play the “Hi-Di-Hi-Di-Hi-Di-Hi” song. I first heard it as a kid at the old Arlington Stadium. They played a video to go along with the song at the Ballpark a couple of years ago.
One overplayed song was “Welcome to the Jungle”….every night when they took the field.
Before the game, they used to play a female version of “Take Me Out the Ballgame”. I think it was Carly Simon, but I’m not sure. It’s more than one verse.

It's not that I don't like songs like "God Blessed Texas,"
It’s just that I’ve grown up listening to country music, so some of them don’t really make me think of being at a ballgame.
It did take going to Rangers games, however, to discover that that song is not about the great state of Texas, but is in fact about the hotness of Texas women.

Here is my baseball playlist on itunes
“Times Like These” – Foo Fighters
“Texas” – George Strait
“Keep On Keepin’ On” – Jack Ingram
“Running on Sunshine” – Jesus Jackson (it just seems like a summer song)
“I Walk the Line” – Johnny Cash
“Ring of Fire” – Johnny Cash (both of the Cash songs seem to be used a lot in the ballpark)
“Don’t Stop Believin’” – Journey (yeah, it’s a theme song…ha ha)
“Stronger” – Kanye West
“Home” – Marc Broussard (I just love the sound of it)
“Y’all Ain’t Ready” – Marc Broussard (I think this was the NBA theme song for awhile, but oh well)
“Sweet Caroline” – Neil Diamond (the Red Sox can’t ruin it for me)
“Hit Me With Your Best Shot” – Pat Benatar
“Start Me Up” – Rolling Stones
“Beautiful Day” – U2 (James would approve, Rachel)
