borbon
seems like he’s at least going to get to the majors as a 4th OF’er with a pretty high ceiling still.
much different than what we were saying going into the draft

I wonder if BT can handle it if and when he gets called up to Arlington.
I’ve always liked Borbon. I think he got a bad reputation at the draft due to some certain publication’s silly predictions on where he should go. I’m glad we didn’t take him at #17 or #24, but giddy that we got him when we did.

metcalf somehow miraculously has a chance to make the team as it currently stands

Just to churn the rumor mill....
—Heard from an unreliable source (random e-mail) that Homer Bailey had been traded. The reason the e-mailer said Bailey had been trades is he had packed up and left Houston. Why Bailey would go anywhere upon being traded i don’t know. But I’d put Bailey right behind Encarnacion on the most-likely-to-be-traded list.

first thing that popped into my head
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

Why he would go somewhere upon being traded
uh.. a physical by the receiving teams doctors?
uh.. a physical by the receiving teams doctors? Not that I am just going to believe it at face value, but isnt it standard practice that he would need to travel after being traded?

how much did he pack?
was it a day bag, or was it a big suitcase? Did he go to IAH or did he go to Hobby? Come on, what type of source is this? You get a picture of Bailey standing at the AA checkin desk at Hobby and you know he’s going to DFW. But if he’s driving to IAH with enough luggage for 3-4 days, he’s probably going elsewhere…

Laird for Bailey
would be very sexual…

but it seems that the Reds and the Tigers really want him

Encarnacion
Laird, Metcalf and Poveda for Encarnacion and Bailey? Would ya?

yes
is there any reason in the world why you wouldnt?
by JBImaknee on Dec 5, 2008 12:52 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Would the Reds?
From a Rangers fan standpoint, this is one those deals that almost makes way too much sense. You think Cincinatti would counter with Hurley instead of Poveda which leads to somewhere down the line a final of Metcalf, Laird and Hunter/Kiker for Encarnacion, Bailey and a PTBNL?

We need D.

Brooks Robinson and
Omar Vizqel in wheelchairs would be better defensively then MY and Encarnacion.

Salty and Metcalf for a Encarnacion and Bailey.

Not sure if this is elsewhere
but the Tigers are apparently “stepping up” their pursuit of Laird.

The Giants
I find it interesting that the Giants have emerged (at least on the rumor mill) as potential suiters for Cantu or Encarnacion, and in both cases Sanchez was mentioned as a possible return. with Florida and Cincy both seeking a young C, it seems a three team deal of sorts is possible not only with the Marlins (as Jamey mentioned) but with Cincy as well.

What's odd is Brian Sabean had said
General manager Brian Sabean said he plans on using Sandoval as the Giants’ primary third baseman in 2009, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

No one of note.
He was probably just trying to gain some leverage, and Sandoval will end up playing 1st.

And the masses speak loudly!
Another point missed is that he will have no CHOICE but to listen to Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan. Would you like to be the pitcher who failed because you thought you knew more than Nolan? I don’t think so.

At any rate, if JD makes a play for him you have to figure Nolan’s given the green light…

yes, and the big swinging dick
always had a good catcher. So I would think he would consider not trading away Laird this year and focus on trading Salty. Of course JD got Salty and this must be the hang up, and the $3 million that I don’t see why we can’t pay Laird.

Add topic - Greg Maddux
Announced his retirement today. 355 wins or thereabouts. Suppose he’d joing in brother in shaping up Ranger pitching?

greatest pitcher of his generation?
Full run better for his career than the league average in ERA, has all the hardware, and was dominant for an extended period of time…
by laxtonto on Dec 5, 2008 4:38 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Maddux
was right there with Clemens for being one of the greatest pitchers of the past 25 years. A 23 year career, career 1.80 BB/9 (I can only dream of a Ranger doing that once), 4 well earned Cy Youngs, 3 more top 5 finishes, career 132 ERA+, and I can go on and on about his great accomplishments. He has made at least 33 starts each since his 2nd full year in the league (not including strike shortened years). I really do hope that the Rangers can manage to give him some role in the organization.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

I'll go and say he was one of the most underrated pitchers of his generation
Seems as though a lot of people overlook him, mainly because he didn’t have the sexy pitches that others do, or that he didn’t pitch in major markets. All he did was go out there and win ballgames. Probably the best fielding pitcher of his generation or all-time.
