Time to move on to the vote for #20.

The polls are open, so go ahead and vote in the poll at the bottom and feel free to make any suggestions and/or criticisms in the comments below.

And please don't hesitate to tell me you want on the list for next time.

NOTE: There has been some speculation as to what the criteria are for this vote. Should guys who have spent time in the bigs be involved in "prospect" discussions? For the sake of this exercise we're taking what the guys have done in the big leagues and using the BA prospect formula of 130 AB's or 50 ip. If a guy is under those limits, he's still a prospect and he goes on the poll. It's that simple.

Please no Tommy Hunter then

Gonna go with Wieland, I think

Might as well after Ross made #19. I still think Diamond is primed for a breakout year, but I think Wieland can be better in the long run.

Shed Golson

I have to stick with him, could be awhile….

went with golson

Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

Man am I sad we went with that nickname.

Why not just call him “The Shed”. Shed Golson just sounds off to me.

I'm cool with

The Shed…I just wanted to leave Shed open to use for other players should they warrant.

As in Darth or King…

Gotta go with Hunter,

and I probably won’t be voting after this. Top 20 sounds good to me. Im happy with that. From 20 on doesn’t do much for me. Does anybody feel the same?

the top 30 is pretty good

Ocampo is way underestimated. Tmurphy should proceed through the system pretty quickly. Wieland is impressive. Font, Ross, Strop, Madrigal, Golson are all impressive in their own ways. Castillo and Santana are still young high ceiling guys who we will find out a lot more about next year.

by Goyogringo on Dec 7, 2008 10:05 AM CST up reply actions

Funny thought

the 30th best player from an average team is somewhere around the #900 player in the minors.

The question is where does our #30 (prediction: Beau Jones will be #30) rank in all of baseball?

by JBImaknee on Dec 7, 2008 10:39 AM CST up reply actions

700 or so?

just a guess, interesting question though

by Michael Cave on Dec 7, 2008 11:02 AM CST up reply actions

I think he would be top 15

in 20-25 systems. He threw a 2.80 FIP in Bak and had a .338 BABIP.

I think he has the stuff to be a nice setup lefty.

This is an exciting time in my life.

I'm passing judgement on his passing judgement

no way he is top 15 in 90% of the systems. I do like him but let’s be realistic.

by Goyogringo on Dec 7, 2008 11:29 AM CST up reply actions

No

Still left on the board (if Hunter where to win this, and he is leading) there’s still Wieland, Diamond, Tim Murphy, Kyle O’Campo, Carlos Pimentel… there’s plenty of debate left to go 30, I think.

Lemon Head....

This might be a long wait…

Voted for him too, but now I’m feeling more Tommy Hunter.

It is going to be a long wait for the lil Lemon.

I'll be swtiching over to the Lil' guy soon.

I didn’t think it’d take this much time to get Thomas Nicklaus Diamond on the damn list.

Diamond over Lemon

seems pretty off to me. Diamond is more ? than anything right now, he needs more success since TJ before he can be called back.

by bushe on Dec 7, 2008 10:22 PM CST up reply actions

Wieland

Hunter is next for me. I’m thinking Telis should come on before too long, but not just yet. I’ll vote for Wieland, Hunter and Tim Murphy, then maybe Telis.

by t ball on Dec 7, 2008 10:43 AM CST reply actions

Telis isn't sniffing my top 30

why is he for you? He has a long road, a 5-8 converted infielder who just completed his first year as a catcher in the DSL. I will wait until he makes his debut before I rank him. he is behind santana (I still think he will catch in 09), pina and de los santos in my book.

by Goyogringo on Dec 7, 2008 11:11 AM CST up reply actions

Macumba

He should be on here already. Telis and Santana have been on for while now, though nobody’s really been voting for them.

he’s got a looong way to go but I usually go for ceiling. I may change my mind when we get that far, there’s a lot of guys who make sense in the 20s.

Diamond

This is the year he reestablishes himself as a legitimate prospect after his recovery from TJ surgery. I think he has the stuff to be a good bullpen guy if not a starter.

Wait 'til the year after next

again. sigh. If Tommy Hunter is who bumps Diamond out of the Top 20 , I’m going to be extremely disappointed.

Yet again. I base my vote on the fact that Hunter has done more in his 1+ year in the organization than Diamond has done in 4+.

Hunter for me

Its going to be tough after this one. I’m thinking Wieland, Murphy, Madrigal, or Golson after this.

Open call for any other requests, btw.

Don’t suggest people just to suggest them, please. I’d rather not go the trouble of typing in twenty extra guys every time when no one is gonna vote for them.

But if there’s someone you feel legitimately needs to be on the list at this point, or if there’s someone you want to vote for next round or two, then just let me know.

Not necessarily now, because he absolutely would not win several more votes, but just in terms of where we are with candidates, I would guess that Juan Polanco is deserving of addition.
