Time to move on to the vote for #20.
The polls are open, so go ahead and vote in the poll at the bottom and feel free to make any suggestions and/or criticisms in the comments below.
And please don't hesitate to tell me you want on the list for next time.
NOTE: There has been some speculation as to what the criteria are for this vote. Should guys who have spent time in the bigs be involved in "prospect" discussions? For the sake of this exercise we're taking what the guys have done in the big leagues and using the BA prospect formula of 130 AB's or 50 ip. If a guy is under those limits, he's still a prospect and he goes on the poll. It's that simple.

Well, because Hunter's just not that good
It would seem likely his lack of a second pitch to garner swings and misses with will land him in the bullpen sooner or later, whereas Diamond’s lost development time and control issues will probably ticket him to the bullpen sooner or later as well. Realistically, I think both probably have a similar ceiling right now, just different routes to arriving at it – so if you’re not voting for Diamond, who actually has the better stuff then you probably shouldn’t be voting for Hunter.

I think Hunter makes up for stuff with his control.
He has solid command of his fastball and pretty absurd command of his curve (when not facing Major League hitters anyway). His change up came a long way last season, too. He’s not ready, but I don’t think it’s a given that he’s any better or any worse than Diamond… and let’s not forget what a huge Diamond fan I am.
Curious though, why do you think that Diamond’s lost development time relegates him to the bullpen?
Neftali Feliz is not a swimmer.

Well, I think his age might make the Rangers fast-track him
If he does have a breakout season in Frisco I’d bet the Rangers will bring him up and probably at least start him in the bullpen, where he’ll probably dominate enough to stay there.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I don’t think Diamond could still start – I’m just not sure he’ll get a real chance, with McCarthy, Harrison, Hurley and possibly Holland (and yes, maybe even Hunter) in line for rotation shots next year. Of course, if we get decimated by injuries again on the major league level, that would probably give us plenty of time to look at all those guys…

Gonna go with Wieland, I think
Might as well after Ross made #19. I still think Diamond is primed for a breakout year, but I think Wieland can be better in the long run.

the top 30 is pretty good
Ocampo is way underestimated. Tmurphy should proceed through the system pretty quickly. Wieland is impressive. Font, Ross, Strop, Madrigal, Golson are all impressive in their own ways. Castillo and Santana are still young high ceiling guys who we will find out a lot more about next year.

Funny thought
the 30th best player from an average team is somewhere around the #900 player in the minors.
The question is where does our #30 (prediction: Beau Jones will be #30) rank in all of baseball?

in 20-25 systems. He threw a 2.80 FIP in Bak and had a .338 BABIP.

Still left on the board (if Hunter where to win this, and he is leading) there’s still Wieland, Diamond, Tim Murphy, Kyle O’Campo, Carlos Pimentel… there’s plenty of debate left to go 30, I think.

why is he for you? He has a long road, a 5-8 converted infielder who just completed his first year as a catcher in the DSL. I will wait until he makes his debut before I rank him. he is behind santana (I still think he will catch in 09), pina and de los santos in my book.

Garr, jones, young, mathis, ballard, hyatt, bleier, bannister, eppley, roark, brader, schlect, reed, hamburger, lueke, ortiz…
Laughter will be 24 and Garr, at 25, had very few ip in college so was about a year behind; he is right where he should be. Also, Garr pitched the last week of the season, which would seem to indicate his shoulder is fine.
I like laughter but he is far down on my list.

Starters/Relievers
Mathis, Ballard, Hyatt, Bleier, and Reed are all still considered starters to me at this point. Also, I think Strop’s injury has to be taken into account. As for the Garr injuries, I meant I’m concerned, because it happened twice during the season. Oh, and Madrigal isn’t a prospect in my book, because of the service time. Just my preference. He’d be #1 if he was still a prospect. With Laughter, I’m high on him, because if he cuts down on those few (very few) awful appearances, you’d see the line of an excellent reliever. He’s good as it is. That’s just my take.

yep different takes
in this system none of those guys project as major league starters IMO though Reed and Bleier will start next year they won’t end up as starters. Strop was signed because the injury was not serious (not a labrum or TJ) and the reports all have him back in June. However if it wasnt for the injury he would be about #15 on my prospect list rather than 25. He has closer stuff and Madrigal does not in my estimation…
