Homer Bailey to the ChiSox?
There's a report out there that Homer Bailey has been dealt to the Chicago White Sox for Jermaine Dye...
Interesting for a couple of reasons...first, because Bailey has been talked about as a possible target for the Rangers in Gerald Laird trade talks.
Second, because Josh Hamilton was supposedly dealt last year around this time because the Reds had plenty of outfielders and needed pitching.
Now, Hamilton, Adam Dunn, and Ken Griffey, Jr., is gone, and the Reds are out there trying to acquiring a slugging COF, and are seeking to move some young pitching in order to land one.

Didnt realize
that Bailey had that much value.

Some talk
has been that something else will go with Bailey. I don’t really see things this way, but from a realistic standpoint I guess we have to see what the full deal is.

Okay
that makes more sense. Despite Dye’s age you would think he would fetch more than what Bailey’s current value is.

He's pretty expensive and he's just terrible in the field at this point. Plodder doesn't even begin to desrcribe him.
That said, he’s still a pretty good get for Cincy. He’s still got a pretty cannon once he actually gets to the ball, iirc. And he can of course hit the crap out of the ball.

that seems like too much for bailey
ill believe it when its really announced, though i guess its possible.
is the chisox OF squared away? maybe they become a trade partner possibility now.
the preceding post was a great success.

We couldn't beat that
but I kind of feel like the Rangers missed out by not getting in on Bailey cheap.

definitely
sox, they have made alot of good deals for young pitching the last couple of years.
It’s a shame we couldn’t land Bailey, hopefully we can still get a good prospect out of laird
Wait 'til the year after next

Aren't CJ's immature antics enough for this team?
I just don’t see Bailey’s disposition improving in Texas … or Chicago for that matter.

Hard to stomach a guy who you’re not sure wants to be out there. There is just so much talk about being willing to do whatever is necessary to get high end pitching and this is a chance with a young guy who at least has a chance to grow up still.
His lack of interest in the game probably worries me as much as his bad attitude, though, if you can separate the two.

White Sox
They’ve shed $23 million in ’09 payroll obligations in the last week. Cost cutting or a prelude to a FA signing?
by Randy Richardson on Dec 7, 2008 7:58 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
My vote
would be cost cutting. I really think Furcal will regret rejecting his deal as this doesnt seem like the best market for Free Agents (Yes, Captain Obvious ha).

The Sox
WILL need an outfielder if this deal is made unless they want a Quentin/Anderson/Owens trio. Maybe they target Dunn? Possibly Bradley?

it does open up a deal for an outfielder
perhaps we deal byrd to the sox now :P

Think we could talk 'em out of Danks if we added some prospects?
Me neither.

White Sox
Can Quentin play RF? Dunn would be awful in RF. Ozzie and Milton would either get along really well or not at all – no in between there.

I would pay to see
Bradley go postal on Ozzies ass.
Miami bound...

Could be VERY disappointed.
I think Bailey is a great reclamation project and, if acquired by the White Sox, could be another great trade for Ken Williams. Would have been a great risk to take to see if Maddux could find the right buttons to push. why not give the Reds Laird and Murphy/Byrd for Bailey and a PTBNL or something.
Go Cubbies and Go Rangers!

i would think we offered laird/murphy or byrd and a ptnbl for homer
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

I'm sure many of you are impressed with Josh Hamilton's ability to run into walls and hold on to the ball...
Fact is… the guy plays a shitty centerfield. He takes bad reads, plays too shallow… and just for good measure… plays like dookie in the day-time. Centerfield is a tough sunfield, and Hamilton cost us a couple of games last year… most notably, a Feldman start in Oakland
I’ll take plus defense and a .275 AVG from the right side from Byrd everyday.
And lest you forget… Byrd started out pretty shitty last year, only to play in 122 games and finish with a .298 / .380 / .462 / .842 line.
He may not be a part of this team’s future, but he’s the best centerfielder we have right now.

I can agree with that
But I also don’t know that should exclude him from being traded if it brings back a good useful player in return.

Hamilton should be in right full time
but how much does it really matter next season? (Or, put another way, how much does an extra win or two really matter for next season?
If the return’s right on Byrd, Daniels needs to pull the trigger ~ whether now, or before the trade deadline. (If not, Byrd’s certainly a nice piece to have for 2009, and I agree that I’d rather see him than Hamilton in center.)

Hambone plays a slightly below average CF.
And he more than makes up for it with his bat.
I like Byrd. He’s been very good the last two years and he has a lot of defensive versatility. That said, if we get a chance to improve our team long term by trading him, trade him.
I’m more than okay with the idea of a Boggs/Hamilton/Cruz L-R OF in ’09.

Or, Bailey in Chicago
could wilt under the massive wave of assness that is Ozzie Guillen. Bailey might just run away and join the circus if he’s already not too commited to his game.

With reports of Homer being uncoachable
He would get destroyed by Ozzie cussing him out all the time. Would love to see that

Laird and Byrd
For Bailey and another significant piece I’m too lazy to ascertain on thebaseballcube.
I got to figure that leapfrogs the Rangers over Chicago’s Dye package.
