Report: 4 years, $51 Million for KRod
I have been guessing 4 years, $12 million per for awhile now...apparently he demanded 5 years, $75 million?! WTF? Anyways, check out the article.
Assuming the fourth year vests, Rodriguez will average $12.75 million a season, putting him just ahead of Brad Lidge as the highest-paid reliever in the game not named Mariano Rivera. K-Rod originally wanted five years and $75 million, but four years and $51 million isn't a bad consolation, especially given all of the factors (the economy, a saturated closer market) working against him.

BtB makes a strong case that it's a very reasonable deal.
I actually agree, but it’s walking the line between reasonable and too much. And if he blows out his arm. . .

Were the other two K-Rod threads not enough?

seriously
i don’t care much about controlling the diaries but it’s getting ridiculous now. and when someone points out that another thread has already covered this, can the person who made the diary please delete it.
there are so many winter meeting stories and some of the good diaries are getting pushed to the bottom. plus it is difficult to remember where you were having the discussion about the krod contract when there are 5 threads to choose from.
please, delete this thread. please.

I don't mind the Player X signed with Y
The problem are the incessant “It is rumored that KRod may sign with Mets” or “Jays interested in Furcal”, and “Rays talked to Bradley, maybe we should have traded him for David Price” diaries.

but we already have a thread that actually announced this signing
and it’s a front page one

That's fair
I’m just talking about in general, not this one in particular. I think the rumors threads should be kept to a minimum, unless it is something particularly relevant (the “quietly shopping” FOTF) thread, for instance.

Fanposts
When rumors about players with no connection to Texas start pushing legit fanposts off the board then it becomes a problem. I have mine set to show the last 20 fanposts. Right now there are 2 K-Rod fanposts (plus the one on the front page by Z), 2 about the Rangers shopping MY (plus more on the front page about it), 2 about the Tribune Company (what the hell do I care about the Tribune Company), one about Rafael Furcal and the Blue Jays (why should Texas care), and one about AJ Burnett and Atlanta (again why does this matter to Texas). The ones about Furcal and Burnett could just as easily go in the other winter meetings threads and create the same discussion and the duplicate ones could have been kept together and thats 5 pointless fanposts. It starts to add up.

I understand your point
Krod has something to do with the Rangers because he was the closer for one of our division rivals. I don’t have a problem with people posting something that is legit, but the beginnings or ridiculous rumors like “this team is interested in player a” is a little ridiculous. Of course there will be teams that are interested in player a.
But some rumors or deals that are close are fine with mentioning. This part of the season is the “Hot Stove” where it is mainly rumors, and fans can get excited about the possibility of this player or that player. This year we might hear alot more about other players because there has been hardly anything to talk about on the Rangers front.
I’d rather have an active fanbase that posts alot than one that has a post every 6 days about a Ranger grocery shopping.

OK
But those rumors about players not pertaining to the Rangers or the Rangers immediate rivals should probably be kept within already ongoing discussions. Most of these only contain a link and a block quote from the article that is linked so i see no reason that couldn’t be done within a thread that already has discussion going. Its not like people aren’t going to comment on it.

I would agree with that
some posts are a waste and should be posted within other conversations

yeah
Multiple threads about players who aren’t even Rangers or weren’t even rumored to go to the Rangers is a little silly. Not the end of the world, but silly.

Thats my deal
We have a front page thread saying K-Rod to the Mets. We also have a fanpost thats says K-Rod rumored to the Mets. The fact that K-Rod is one of the most high profile FAs I think does warrant our attention not to mention he used to play a key role for our division rival. But to make an entirely new thread simply to point out the 4th year is pointless in my opinion. Theres plenty of discussion in the other threads to post this in there and it would generate talk. Pushing other fanposts down during this time of year is unnecessary for stuff like this.

The main page post about K-Rod had a different figure.
Just trying to update. And what good fanposts are you so sad that are getting pushed out? There haven’t been any that are that great (that haven’t been rec’d) in a couple of months.
