LSB Site Redesign UPDATE 5: All Hunky Dorey now

I've heard from a few people that Athletics Nation is getting their site redesign/upgrade tomorrow (Tuesday, 2/12).

Woohoo!  I'm sick of this 2003 design...

LSB can't be that far behind. But, of course, at the pace they've been on for the past couple of months since the redesign was promised, one would think that Ben was doing the coding. I kid, I kid...sort of.

ab03's GreaseMonkey troll script probably won't work after the redesign is rolled out.  But at least he wasn't ready for that Constitutional Law exam he should have been studying for...heh

Update [2008-2-11 15:16:41 by RangerMoto]: Apparently, the A's Nation new site rollout is happening TODAY (2/11)

Update [2008-2-11 16:26:58 by RangerMoto]: A's Nation is currently down: http://www.athleticsnation.com

Update [2008-2-11 22:23:43 by RangerMoto]: As some of you have noted, A's Nation is back up. Everyone should go over there now to claim your new global SBNation ID and bind it to your current LoneStarBall accounts. It looks like they're restricting you from setting up a current username if it already exists on any of the SBNation blogs. That was smart of them.

Ooooh, and they have Open ID support!

Update [2008-2-11 22:38:48 by RangerMoto]: The site is back offline for maintenance. Wow, they need to get their shit together. I can understand a 5 hour downtime to roll out new changes (database scripts need to be run, files pushed out, everything verified, etc.). But then you take the site down again?

My initial reaction to the new site? "Jesus, this thing loads slow" Sure enough, YSlow reported that it took 8.4 seconds. Not cool. Seems pretty feature-rich though, which can be a great or a terrible thing.

Update [2008-2-11 22:48:7 by RangerMoto]: And back online. That's the last update I'll do. Looks like we'll be getting recommended diaries & comments. Woohoo!

i was thinking about that
but maybe the redesign will have built in ignore features.

incidentally, is Athletics Nation the first?  www.bloggingtheboys.com is an SBN site and it's more updated than LSB - but I feel like these updates refer to something else.

Yes
AN is the first.

Blogging the Boys is just a slightly different version of what LSB has now.  SBNation 2.0 will be completely different.

I hope it has built in ignore.
You did a great job with your script, but it would be nice if the ignore list was built in and you could save your ignore list with your login, rather than having to configure it to every account.

Sniffle,
I'll never forget "classic" LSB.  Seriously, though, I'm one of those cantankerous complainers who always hate it when my favorite sites are redesigned.

I just hope they don't chage it too much...
To where I have to completely re-learn how to use the site! I'm just now really getting used to blogging here...

So...
where is everyone moving to after the re-design?  Anyone remember the disastrous redesign of the ESPN board?

Bring back the red!
How about red as the dominant color on the new site? Maybe (long shot, I know) the Rangers will get the hint and change the unis back.

I agree with Kinsler
bring back the red uni's

I feel like the only person...
who really likes our current jerseys.

I could do without the gray sleeveless. However, I really like the current basic white home uni's and the color scheme.

I like the current uni's
but we haven't won in those. I am very superstition so that really the only reason for bringing the red uniforms back.

There are some things I don't mind
But as a whole it fails compared to the red uniforms, or even the Rangers scripted from the early 90s(whose only issue was the blandness of the aways)
  • The black?  WHY?  Who thought royal blue, red, and black(even with the cut back use) would look good together?
  • The royal blue is too dark.  It looks closer to navy than royal most of the time.
  • The jerseys are way too busy.  Especially the primary roads... blue with red outline with another white outline with a black drop shadow?  Fugly.
  • The sleeveless.  Sure, they're practical, but they also look horrible.

This must be a pretty major
overhaul, because that is a lot of downtime.  What could really cause the transition to be so delayed, that the couldn't have had everything coded and tested on a smaller scale, and then just flipping the proverbial switch?

The site is up...
haven't had a chance to look at it yet, but there are still some dead links.  Again, I think its strange to take so much time and not have everything ready to go.

I like the new style though.  But can't get a feel for the site without being able to explore.

hmmm
not sure i like it.
it looks fine but i'm just not thrilled with the global usernames and being able to go to all blogs, i guess i just see that as causing more problems than it's worth.

Fans should have to stick to their own teams blogs, especially during the regular season. Once the season starts, I bet you're gonna see a lot of fans going to rivals blogs, and taunting them when they beat them... I shudder to think of all the nastyness that will cause.

Keep in mind
individual blogs can ban individual users individually, too. Some Yankees fan could get banned at the Red Sox site and still be able to post all he wants at the Yankees site.

missed the link to claim old usernames.  I've now transferred over my Rangers and A's names.

As for the design,
I like the stat/news/ticker feature. But the page looks way too crowded.

So exactly when is this change
Gonna hit LSB? Somebody better explain this to me, peice by peice, or I may kill my computer like Miles did if I wake up tomorrow and can't log into LSB. What do you mean bind it into your LSB account? I am such a dumbass when it comes to computers...

by lonestarJon on Feb 11, 2008 11:58 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

When
you go to A's nation to sign up for the global account. There will be a "claim old account" link.

Select that, and then add your LSB info. It should bind your LSB account to the universal one you are creating.

So...?
my question is, when this rolls out to LSB, who are the moderators going to be for the FanPosts?

Moderators
is such a failed concept.  I've never seen it work well.

Ignore buttons, or, filter systems like slashdot.org use are much better.  Let people do their own moderating.

if anyone was wondering
the troll script will still work on the new website - maybe a little better because now you don't have to go searching for UID numbers.  but it makes a lot easier to write more user friendly scripts.

but its a lot easier to ignore part of a thread in the new website too
