Around SBN: SB Nation NBA Power Rankings for Week 2

Monday morning

After a flurry of camp opening topics the last few days, attention yesterday turned to Vicente Padilla of all people.

Evan Grant talks about how the team has welcomed Padilla back with open arms this spring. Those singled out include Michael Young and Ron Washington.

T.R.Sullivan concludes that Texas needs Padilla to pitch well to contend, which is most likely true, and discusses how Padilla handled his injury last year. All I can say about Padilla is that I'm still really glad that they only gave him three years. One note, Padilla used German Duran as his translator.

Anthony And Andro gets Michael Young's thoughts on the season, as Young practices his Nook Laloosh answers.

Is this the first time...
that Padilla has admitted that he was hurt last spring, but didn't tell anybody?

That's too bad
Because long-term has worked so well for the Rangers.

Funny prank pulled by the Phillies!
http://tinyurl.com/28x8av

They had the media, Manager, GM, and Myers involved.  His face was classic.  Myers then says he has been traded for Kobeyashi, the hot dog eater.

Ummm, I got nothing good to put here right now, that sucks!

Interesting note on Gabbard
Interesting article over on Baseball Analysts, trying to determine what are the most effective pitches by run value per pitch. Kason Gabbard's changeup vs. righthanders comes in rather surprisingly high on the list of dominant pitches.

Very Interesting,
Kason could be great as long as his other pitches hold up.

Rheineker = the new Chan Ho
Mysterious injuries, long trips to the DL...  Are the Rangers taking a page from the Chan Ho Park playbook and applying it to Rheineker?  Not that I mind; I don't particularly like Rheineker.

I wish the old Chan Ho's salary...
was as low as "the new Chan Ho".

Who cares...
Its Hicks money...
The Celtics are already falling apart...

I hate that "logic"
It never ceases to amaze me how often things like this get said.

We care because it's a percentage of the payroll.

How hard is this to understand?

My secret sources in Cincinnati tell me that Joaquin Arias is twice the man Ruddy Yan will ever be.

Chan Ho
was 2 or 3 years ago, you can't change the past...

I understand that miles...
but just think of the other players that the Rangers could have gone after if not tied down by that contract. We aren't the Yankees, we only have so many 60 mil contracts to give out. That's all I was saying.

Surely you don't want JD to give out a bunch of huge contracts to bad players just because it is Hicks' money? You do realize how much it can hurt the Rangers chances of actually becoming a contender, right?

Because
it's the money of Hicks!
What logic aren't you getting?
Mama named me after JD.

Padilla
sooooo excited about Padilla this season.  I think he's going to turn things around and give us a good season

The healthy Padilla
I have always been in Padilla's camp ever since he was brought here.  This even realizing that he has battled elbow tendinitis.  When he is healthy he is a quality pitcher.  Will give you 200 innings with excellent WHIP.  So he was hurt all of 07.  No surprise to me.  The incident of a silent man hitting Swisher was unfortunate.  I did not believe then that he did it on purpose and I accept his word now that he did not mean it.  That for me was good to hear.  I would not trade Padilla even for a bag of magic beans.

Good health, Padilla!

Whew...that big rock from space missed.
