Some outsiders' takes on Kinsler deal

Dave Pinto thinks this is a good deal for the Rangers.

There's also praise from the Transaction Guy.

I doubt you'll see much, if any, criticism of this deal nationally...

Yeah...
hard to criticize this deal. Some fans will just hate everything Hicks/JD do but this is a great deal.

This is the kind of deal that will need to be done with this team if these young players come up and perform in their first or second year at the ML level. Hopefully a lot of these young kids develop right before our eyes and we see deals like this going forward.

How is it Hate
The reality is if Ian performance improves then it's a good deal, if it doesn't then it's not. How is this hate for Hicks/JD.

I don't understand your line of thinking on this. Considering that we can't know the future, couldn't you argue that it isn't worth paying $10 for a movie because you can't be sure that it will be good or you shouldn't take a flight because it might crash? Doesn't logic like this just lead to a sort of mental paralysis?

You're entitled to your opinion,
but it's wrong.  I've said this a few times already, but I'll keep saying it:  Even if you think Kinsler is only average, this is still a good deal.  $4 million a year is cheap for an average middle infielder, and Kinsler is already above average and just entering his prime.

Transaction Oracle
I wonder if this will reach the Transaction Oracle.  There is a decided lack of Rangers chatter over there.  In fact, the last time I checked, the Kinsler story only had three comments.  The Broussard deal, if I recall correctly, never got mentioned by the Oracle (the Shelton deal did, however).  While the Oracle is just a guess (albeit an educated one), projections are made for the course of the contract, and Dan has recently started adding things like OPS+ (and ERA+ for pitchers).  So, I find these to be the most "interesting" guesses on the internet about projected performance.

I wonder
With all the great assessments of this deal from the Rangers standpoint, is Ian sitting somewhere saying to himself "I'm beginning to think I got screwed"?
