Evan Grant has some blogginess up, looking at how well righty relief candidates have performed against lefties (given that John Rheinecker's surgery means Eddie Guardado will likely be the only non-closing lefty in the pen), and talking about the importance of the players' show of support for Josh Hamilton yesterday...

Grant touches on the talk that has been out there for a while, about there being a certain amount of resentment of, and jealousy towards, Hamilton in the Reds clubhouse, because of the attention that he got last season. I think that dynamic might have been part of the reason why the Reds were willing to part with Hamilton...

I think he is going to be huge! I am really trying to temper my enthusiasm, but its not working very well. The guy may be a superstar.

...is truly MVP level. His attitude appears to be world class as well. The only question is health.

surprising

that Littleton has had pretty good success against lefties. Sidearming RHs usually get mauled by left handed batters. Wonder if his success against them is a sample size issue (127 plate appearances)?

Hamilton's recovery

Pretty classy of those guys to be so supportive. And classy of Hamilton to be so willing to give essentially the same talk over and over with no apparent lessening of sincerity and gratitude at still being able to play.

Someone posted on Evan's blog the idea of the Rangers installing a web cam at spring training. Great idea, even if only to ease the pain of the those of locked into the throes of eternal winter.

Hamilton and the Reds

If that is true about why the Reds traded him that's just a shame! His story is good for baseball and is the ultimate second chance story! Hopefully, this reason will turn out to just be a rumor. Good luck Rangers!

Hamiliton's story

is a marvelous one for life and sports in particular. Of those who have descended to such depths of despair, few have returned. You can only be amazed at where he has been and where he is now. It must have been one of those defining moments in his ongoing battle to look out and see his teammates there in support.

Whew...that big rock from space missed.
