Sheffield slings mud at Boras

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7824474?MSNHPHMA

Sheffield hates Boras, says he will tell other clients about bad things he has done. Also story says Arod has not spoken to Boras since he negotiated his new contract. Also I didnt realize that sheffield is only 20 homers shy of 500 and I wanted to see if people here thought he is a future hall of famer. In my opinion he is not and with the steroid cloud surrounding him, im not sure his chances are good. Im putting up a poll just to see what LSB thinks.

HOF
i think if you look at numbers, yes he's a hall of famer.

i think if he'd played 3b most of his career he'd be a shoe in.

but he's a corner OFer for most of it.

how many teams has he played for?  brewers, pads, marlins, dodgers, braves, yankees, tigers...

for some reason nobody wants him around for long (unless it's that he is truely a greedy mercenary.) but that hurts him more in that there won't be a city (or even 2) where fans and sportswriters will lobby for him.

he's got 1 world series ring.
9 all star appearences.
5 silver sluggers
7 top 10 mvps

adding onto these numbers:
480 home runs
1540 runs
438 doubles
1576 rbi
242 stolen bases
1377 walks
.296 avg
.397 obp
.522 slg
143 ops+

add in the steroid controversy and i'd say he's border line.

who are the other OF's in his era that are about equal or better?

in no order:

vlad guerrero
manny ramirez
ichiro suzuki
barry bonds
sammy sosa
lance berkman
ken griffey
jim edmonds
andruw jones
kenny lofton
albert belle
bernie williams
steve finley
juan gonzalez
larry walker

Yeah...
I didn't realize Shef had all those great #'s... but playing as a corner OF does indeed make him a borderline case. With all the 'roid stuff, I would have to say no, he's not all HOF'er.

that is a lot of OFs
that you claim are equal or better, do they all make the HOF, because that would be a lot of representation from one era.

I think Sheffield is borderline, but due to steroids won't get in.

nowhere near all of them get in.
that same list i made, if i were to order them (off the top of my head, not looking at stats) it may be something like this.

barry bonds
ken griffey
manny ramirez
vlad guerrero (assuming he has a couple more good years)
ichiro suzuki (assuming he plays 3 more years)
gary sheffield
sammy sosa
kenny lofton
larry walker
juan gonzalez
bernie williams
albert belle
steve finley
jim edmonds
andruw jones
lance berkman

no more than 5 or 6 of those should get in. i think it's safe to say that albert belle on down won't get in.

I agree
mostly with your ordering and say that only the top 4 on the list are sure things.

Concur...
but I think Ichiro and Sosa get in as well.

Jim Edmonds is really good
Better than Andruw Jones (if each of their defenses live up to reputation).

i'm just saying
that they are top outfielders of that time period.  never suggested that those 2 are hall of famers.  if you made a list of top 20 outfielders of that era, both would be on that list.

Unfortunately for him
I don't think he makes it after he retires for quite a few years.  Maybe one day he'll get in because his numbers alone make him worthy of it.  But with all the great OFs that played at the same time as him, its hard to make a strong case for him to go to the Hall unless he can play a few more great seasons.

I love it...
I hate Boras, and its been a pretty bad year for him after the A-Rod fiasco..

I hope the young players look at him and take a second look.

Sheff vs Boras
