Colon to the BoSox

Boston has apparently reached a deal with Bartolo Colon, which gives them some insurance since Curt Schilling apparently won't be ready to go at the start of the season.

I had thought that Chicago had a deal in place to bring Colon in, but apparently not...

That's amazing
It shows you how bad those medical reports must be. Becuase he could not find a single team in baseball willing to give him a legitimate shot at a full-time spot in the rotation.

I'm still wondering why Kyle Lohse doesn't have ajob yet. Has anybody signed him when I wasn't paying attention? I'll have to go look...

Kyle Lohse

Last I heard
He wanted a 3-4 year deal. He's gonna have to back down from that if he wants a job though... I've said this before, but personally, I would have preferred him over Jason Jennings, if we could have talked him into a 1-2 year deal.

I don't think...
those medical reports are bad. I think Boston is just taking a low risk shot. It's just a minor league deal, which tells you no other team would give him a guarantee because of those injuries.

Colon or Lohse?

Colon's toast
His velocity, per numerous reports, topped out in the mid-to-high 80's in the winter leagues.

Also, the Mets nearly signed Colon earlier in the off-season, but retreated quickly after checking out his medical reports. Not a good indicator of future health, I wouldn't think.

Being a minor league deal, it's a low-risk commitment - that is, unless he implodes and loses several games early for Boston.
