Around SBN: All Hail David Luiz

Monday morning stuff

After seeing what the Giants defense has done the last two games, I don't feel quite so bad about how the Cowboys offense look against them...the Greatest Offense of All Time registered three fewer points on New York than the Cowboys did, after all.  I think this was an instance of a unit really peaking at the right time.

I also don't think there's any way the Cowboys get the pressure on Brady that the Giants did, which was the difference in last night's game.

Turning to the Rangers...Evan Grant has a blog entry up, on why Nolan Ryan might not be the best fit as team president, and touches on some of the control/chain of command issues we've talked about here...Grant says that the Rangers want Nolan for the business side and as a goodwill ambassador, while Nolan would be more interested in coming to the Rangers to get involved in the baseball end.

Well hopefully....
Coach Jones can lock down Greg Williams this week...That guy knows how to blitz, and has been a top D Coordinator for a good bit now.

Bill Paxton is the one who looks like he's dumb, but sounds smart, while Bill Pullman is the one who looks like he's smart, but sounds dumb.

Why do the writers seem to think
that Nolan wants to be involved on the baseball side?  I've seen nothing to suggest that it's anything more than speculation.  What are these opinions based on?

Hopefully we've all learned a lesson from this....
More than a few times, I have have heard people use the argument of "well, even if the Rangers were to have everything fall into place and win the A.L. West, they'd be no match for Boston or the Yankees." (maybe not this winter, but I've heard it in years past) So, if you can't field a team that you KNOW can win 100 games, then you should tear it all down and become the Royals every season?

I've always thought that's hogwash.  Yes, I know the goal is to win the World Series.  But for people to dismiss the importance/opportunity of just making the postseason, that seems ridiculous to me.

Miami Heat in 2006. St Louis Cardinals in 2006. Pittsburgh Steelers following the 2005 season. New York Giants following the 2007 season.

How many of those teams were given ANY chance of winning a championship, even 75-80% of the way thru their respective seasons? Or even as their postseasons were beginning? Zero.
