Actively involved..
he's too smart not to be. Change in ownership? Yeh like that's going to happen, we're stuck with that pocket lining oaf for quite a while.
Well......

you're such a jackass
Interesting
Nah
I want one of Ben Sheets or CC Sabathia (or possibly AJ Burnett if those guys are unavailable), plus one of Adam Dunn or Pat Burell.
Concur...
Por que?
He'd give us some nice right-handed power to plug in between Hobbs and Blalock, and he can actually play a little defense in LF or at 1b, two positions of need for us. (Or, well at least he's not a nexus of suck in the field like Dunn.)
If you don't like Burrell, who do you like out of next year's possible FA's?
Most of the good guys on that list have options that are going to be picked up (Thome, Man-Ram, Crawford), or are long shots to even consider signing here (Chipper).
Ooops
I think Dunn will age horribly. Really horribly.
I wouldn't be angry if we went out and got us some Dunn next off season, but my enthusiasm would be subdued if we had to go beyond 4 years to sign him, which we almost certainly would.
The only...
I wouldn't be upset if the Rangers went after Burrell. His numbers are pretty good but he is 3 years older than Dunn and I believe his #'s will start to decline after next year. He would be second on my list behind Dunn.
Dunn vs. Burrell
Burrell isn't shabby either, but as slc points out, he's older, and has only hit over 35 homers once, and that was waaaayy back in 2002. The last 3 years he's hit 32, 29, and 30 homers.
The main difference between Burrell and Dunn is Pat's career AVG. (.258) is 10 points higher than Dunns (.248). But Dunn actually has a higher career OBP (.381 to Burrell's .367), and he also has a .519 career SLG% to Burrell's .482.
Bottom line, Dunn is younger and has a lot more power, and that makes him the better player, even though Burrell hits for a slighty higher AVG, and strikes out a little less. From what I've heard, Burrell isn't that much better than Dunn on defense, and irregardless, if we do sign one of those two, they're gonna be the DH, not the first baseman or LF. So Dunn is the guy I want - and with our ballpark, he'd probably LOVE to come and take aim at the RF porch. How sweet would that be to watch?

Well, if we sign Dunn
But I must respectfully maintain that his body scares the crap out of me, that he sucks to an unbelievable degree in the field, and that TTO guys rarely age well.
(Though Burrell is pretty TTO himself.)

not when we have the shutdown closer BGL
I'm not 100% sold
I think CJ deserves every chance to close this year until he either proves he's not the guy, or they decide they want to give him a shot at the rotation.
+1
There should be nothing stopping us from acquiring one of those pitchers Dirk mentioned and at least one of Dunn/Burell. Hell, Id love to see us be very active next year. Seeing how there will be a better F.A. class we could possibly fill more holes through trades.
K-Rod is overrated
No, we don't need a superstar closer. Just somebody that can consistently get 3 outs in the 9th inning without giving up any runs. And I think CJ Wilson and Joaquin Benoit can both do that just as good as the almighty "K-Rod" - and for less money, too.

With that said...
If Tom Hicks will just get me Adam Dunn, I will never say another thing about him being a cheapskate.

Nolan was just on Galloway
said the org. has shifted from a hitter's paradise to trying to develop young pitching, and agrees with that strategy (duh).
the one interesting tidbit - when asked if partial ownership is in the works, he said not at this time, but once everything gets settled they will certainly begin talks... it sounded like it's close to a sure thing.
Galloway seems to think the eventual owners of the Texas Rangers will be Nolan Ryan and George W. Bush.
