OT: New York Governor Spitzer involved in prostitution ring.
It has been reported by the New York Times that New York Governor Elliot Sptizer has been involved in a prostitution ring. Wow now that's big news especially for New Yorkers. How on earth did a Governor get involved in that? He has told his top officials that it is true, he's a married man with children and has even gone so far as to go after prostitution rings previously as attorney general.

I always love
After his big words after taking down prostitution rings as a prosecuter, I find it hilarious that he got caught in one.

You should read more
If you recall, the majority of the founding fathers of this nation were wealthy land owners whose "christian morals" didn't prevent them from holding humans against their will for the purpose of labor.
In fact, you weren't a white male, those "christian morals" that our country was supposedly founded upon didn't really benefit you very much. Did they?

Slavery
How again did Christian morals hurt anybody? Are you saying that the support of slavery was a Christian moral? If so, you are lying, it was an accepted part of life.
Christian morals got us where we are today. Freedom of religion is a Christian moral.

A Christian,
So you think, in a nutshell, our history up until the 20th century, stinks, because we were a Christian nation? We established the strongest country in the world through God's blessing and a Christian foundation.
So morals are relative then. What of Hitler's morals? They were what he believed and he thought they were right for him? Should we have people like that running our country, seeing that he is no different from anybody else?
by dstar442005 on Mar 10, 2008 7:33 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I get it...
Christian morals are freedom of religion. Really? I missed that during the Crusades, Spanish Inquisition, "Christianizing" of the natives when they came to this continent, etc.
Our country is great because of many things. Freedom of religion is one of them. Being a Christian nation or having a Christian foundation has nothing to do with it. Are you saying Christianity is better than other religions? Ever heard of seperation of chuch and state?
Why do you keep bringing up Hitler? His morals have nothing to do with anything. Are you saying I want a racist to run the country because I'm not Christian. I believe my far left morals and ideology answer that question raher easily.
by slc ranger on Mar 10, 2008 7:49 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
so
Christians established freedom of religion, Christians wrote the Constitution. Most of what this country was and is is because of Christians. Have other religions contributed to the success of America? Certainly; but up until the 20th century, they were not prevalent.
"Are you saying Christianity is better than other religions?" Personally, yes, because it is truth, but I won't be able to use that argument with you though. This is religious pluralism which I don't support. I support a search for truth. I bring up Hitler for this exact reason. You believe in complete tolerance, therefore one should be tolerant of Hitler's Marxist beliefs.
This in no way pertains to you, but there ARE racist Atheist's, for Darwin's book "The Origin of Species" had a subtitle of "The Preservation of Favored Races".
by dstar442005 on Mar 10, 2008 8:13 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
We simply must agree to disagree...
All religions are equal in my eyes. None of them can claim to have "the truth". Once you start thinking your religion is better than others is where you have a big problem.
As far as your points on Hitler, Marx, and Darwin, well I don't even know where to start. I don't feel like typing for a hour so I will leave that be.
Different opinions and views on life are what make people unique. We will never see eye to eye on this issue and that's ok. You may have the last word.

oh well
I just want to ask you, from an objective point of view, does it not seem that Christians are often treated unfairly in today's culture? And how do you explain the prophesies in the Old Testament that are coming true today?
You seem to be an individual of higher learning, so I would imagine you have a Bible laying around somewhere in your house, so could you do me one small favor and take 3 minutes to read Ezekiel 37-39 and take from it what you will. It may interest you.
I am not in the least being an annoying Christian that tries to convert everyone he speaks to, I just think it would interest you in your pursuit for knowledge.
Good argument slc ranger, thank you for keeping it clean and not ignoring me, I sincerely appreciate it.
by dstar442005 on Mar 10, 2008 8:53 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well dstar...
As for prophesies coming true I see them as being pretty vague and you can interpret them any number of ways to fit your beliefs.
I don't have a "true" bible as you know it at home. I do have a few books on the bible like "The Bible As History". I read the bible like a historical document. Taking into account when it was written and the bias it contains, There is a lot of information in the bible, but the ancient history major in me makes me read it with a grain of salt. Some things did happen in the bible, some of it is propoganda, and I have no problem distinguishing the two.
I'm not sure what passage you are referring to but I will read it. Nice discussion dstar, hopefully I was not to harsh with you as I tend to be sometimes with these discussions. I'm as passionate about my beliefs as you are about yours.

Given my comment to you
Too many Christians spend too much time worrying about things like prayer in schools and whether or not the city can put the 10 commandments on government property. And regarding the old testament prophecies, you can read those things in a thousand ways, don't get your hopes up.
Daniel, Ezekiel, etc. are nice and all, but if you want to be a disciple, you should be too busy to be wasting time interpreting prophecy. You are not going to convert anyone by trying to prove to them that the OT is coming to life here and now. People are impressed by your behavior not your scriptural knowledge.

listen...
you say you believe in the search for truth... i think thats probably the most interesting way to say it... truth? i mean, truthfully i look for facts... and factually, the declaration of independence was written by an athiest... hence the whole "let all men worship freely"... thomas jefferson didn't want religion any more than the rest... and i think its funny you critisize hitler for his "truthes" but say that it was merely "the times" for the "christian founding fathers" who supposedly read books about ancient isrealis, iraqis, egyptians and turks, held them on such high regard, and then kept people, who had pretty similar skin tones as slaves... sounds pretty honest to me... and very christian. love thy brother, but just the white one...
the truth is you've found a purpose and legitimacy to your life by being a part of a group where you are told what to think and do by people (this is where i would get into the pediphilia thing, yay choir boys) who all study the same books for years and somehow all come up with different versions of it... so christian is that way to go! great!... um... catholic? roman catholic? adventist? methodist? lutheran? baptist? southern baptist? unitariean? jehovahs witness? mormons? church of the united? latter day saints? stop me when i get warm... i'm fine with you believing in which ever you want, and i'm fine with you sharing that belief with close friends who attend the same scripture readings as you(we wouldn't want you finding one of those unauthorized, we don't want you to know this books)... but don't for one second try to try and espouse to me about how i/anyone else doesn't understand... especially if you're going to write of the worst parts of christian history to a) that was another time or b) that was before protestants... cause i think God wouldn't like that you dismissed his role before the people you agree with were around...
i mean, his son was jewish. so what does he know?
