OT: Sallie Mae

Since I'm sure almost everyone on this board has gone to college, based upon the semi-intelligent conversation that is the norm, I will assume that someone has dealt with Sallie Mae in some capacity.

I got a call from a rude guy this morning informing me that I was past due a certain amount.  I then informed him that I was not past due and that I would need to contact my financial adviser to obtain the records and asked that I call him back once I received clarification.  He ignored me and asked how I would be paying the past due amount.  I told him that again that I would need to call him back after consultation.  We went through this 2 more times then he asked why I was being rude.  I told him I was not being rude, but that it felt I was talking to a wall as I had stated something at least three times and he ignored me.  I hung up on him as he was stating that I was insulting his integrity.

Is Sallie Mae always this rude?  Or are they being told to since the Government is needing money now that they are cheapening the dollar?

I've never had that kind
of communication from them.  That's the kind of crap that a collection agency might try.  Perhaps he was referring to some old debt?  If so, don't acknowledge owing anything and stick to it.  Unless you feel they have a legitimate problem with your account I would not even contact them again except to maybe complain to management about the tone of the call.

I have Sallie Mae loans
And I've found their customer service to be great. So much so that I'm wondering if this guy was an imposter or something.
Hambone, Hambone where you been? I been around these bases, and I'm going again.

Ditto
I'm thinking he might have been phone phishing.

Info
Don't know a thing about their collection process (sounds like whoever called you is only assigned to collection and couldn't care less about contracts, terms, etc).

Here's some info however:

Seems they have problems more far reaching than subprime lending.

Yeah, something stinks
I would think pretty much any lender would send you a notice in the mail first concerning the past due amount before badgering you on the phone.

Come to think of it
I've never gotten a phone call from SallieMae, just mail and email.

Okay, update...
Logged on to my account and it appears that they updated the information on there.  I guess the guy was legit.  I see the HUGE error on the website and fight through the "For English, press 1"  (I'm not even getting in to that issue right now,) process and get another rude person (chick this time) and go through almost the EXACT SAME CONVERSATION.  Finally I ask "Do I need to word my question differently?"  "Excuse me sir?"  "I've asked the same question three times now and it appears I haven't asked it loud enough."  This time, the question was, is there a fax number, email address, physical address, etc that I can forward copies of checks that have been sent to your company so that this matter may be resolved.

After being on hold for about 5 minutes, she comes back and gives me the general Sallie Mae, Inc. address with a different P.O. Box #.  I asked if the letter and copies needed to be made to anyone's ATTN: "Sallie Mae"  Wtf?  I generally don't like Yankees as regional habitants, but this is getting to me.

After you fix this
It seems like a great time to consolidate your loans with another loan agency.

No consolidation necessary
Only one loan outstanding.  Credit ain't the greatest, especially since banks are very leary right now of lendnig money, or I would love to take out a personal debt consolidation.
