Holy shit.
Not sure how I feel about it. It's probably a lot like getting a new car or moving: it just takes a while to get used to it.

most people

But what you don't realize...
...I hate cars and houses.

lol
You hate houses?

How do you feel about food and rainbows and puppies and stuff like that?

Not surprised LSB
is coming before many of the others, seems to be one of the more high traffic sites on the network.

Easy on the eyes is what I like.  It seems way to complicated to  me.

"Flagging Comments
To help the moderators on a site, we've built-in tools that let you flag comments that are spam, trolling or just plain inappropriate. No one else can see those flaggings, but the moderators can."

I can see some people abusing this right.  This is gonna get a lot of Lonestar bloggers upset Im sure.  Oh, someone might have a personal grudge against me so lets flag him.

"FanPosts (the section formerly known as Diaries)"

God, I dont know what's more gayier, fanposts or diaries.  Why couldnt they call it kick ass fans or fan blogs or something.

Ah what ever, bring it on.  It aint gonna stop me.

The flagging stuff
I doubt you'll ever know it's there.

The word diary always make think of Anne Frank for some reason so I'm OK with that change...

How does
the flagging thing work?  Users can flag things themselves as a voting count?

by miles on Mar 19, 2008 5:50 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

If you a flagged a commet here
the only two people who could know are Adam or zywica.  The comment would then show in a special admin section for moderation.

I really doubt it will be used.

Yeah, that's not a good idea... there'll no doubt be people that'll flag anything from people like Sharky, Ahmad, HurlerHurley, ext. just to be flagging stuff.

I'm also not a fan of the "reccomended fanpost" deal - that just seems stupid, to me.

Call me a tradionalist, old fashioned, or whatever, but I like LSB just the way it is... isn't there any way some of the new bells and whistles can be added without changing to that crappy new format? This format is straight-forward, easy to use... the new one looks too busy, IMO.

I'm going to take
this rare opportunity to agree with you. One of the best things about LSB is the lack of heavy-handed control and censorship.

by Randy Richardson on Mar 19, 2008 8:18 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Don't worry
The same guy will be in control of the flagging so I doubt that it will get heavy-handed.

by DaheelzCM on Mar 19, 2008 8:38 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah
It's up to Adam if he pays attention to what comments are flagged or not.  Nothing will change because of it...

so far, so good
On the blogs that we have migrated so far, the flagging feature hasn't been abused. Instead it's been used responsibly by all the communities to help the blog managers moderate a large number of different threads. Of course all SB Nation blogs are unique, so we'll see how well it works for everyone else and adjust it accordingly. Including here at LSB.

Ive never seen
moderation work worth a damn at any board it has been used on.  I like either the simple ignore all posts by a poster button, or slashdot's filtering system.

External moderators always do a fairly poor job.

Word
It has some really cool new features, but the look and feel is super generic. It looks like every other home made blog on the net. The current setup is nice cause it's very clean and simple.

I guess I'll get used to it though.

ditto t, mixed feelings too
Was wondering... when the change does occur and we get settled in and decide we don't like this new change. Can we go back to the old format???

by hurlerhurley on Mar 19, 2008 9:21 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

new design
I checked out the Sickels' site a few days back, and my immediate reaction was "this is kind of cool, but  overwhelming. I hope LSB is way down on the list of blogs to be updated, because I'm really going to miss the simple old school format." I know I'll get used to it, but I'm apparently a creature of habit. Another thing I don't like is the ability of people to use one log-in to comment on every SBN board. I'm dreading the possibility of those annoying losers from that toolshed Halos Haven trolling over here whenever we have a series against them. It's funny  when the Royals Review shows up, but if the Rev starts posting here  I think I'll get ill. I'm sure on balance it will be a good thing, it will just take some getting used to.

On the plus side, I'm excited for the podcast!

exactly... my same thoughts
over at Athletics Nation when they started out with the new format I joined and liked the new format. However, I really didn't get to familiar with it cause it wasn't my home. It looked really nice and all the added features are pretty cool.

I actually love LSB like it is now and not sure about the change for my home blog. I'm just thinking if the LSB community doesn't catch on to this new format and doesn't like this. Can Adam choose to stay with what we have??? Now I'm not saying we won't like it, just wondering what IF?

by hurlerhurley on Mar 19, 2008 9:38 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Right
Every SBN site will be switching for good.

by Wes Cox on Mar 19, 2008 10:19 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wes is correct
The move to the new platform will be permanent, but keep in mind that it's beta software and we'll be listening to your feedback and input as we continue to develop and improve it. We've added a lot of really useful features based on ideas that SB Nation bloggers heard and passed along to us. And we'll keep on doing that once you've had an opportunity to try everything out. As we've migrated other SB Nation blogs that have been around as long or longer than LSB, we've found that they really enjoy the new auto-updating commenting feature that really makes game threads fast and furious. Can't wait for y'all to check that out.

one account, different communities
When we designed the new single user account system, we made sure that we continued to respect the different communities. Even if you have a SB Nation account you still have to explicitly join each blog where you want to comment or post. That means checking a box and accepting the guidelines set out by each blogger for their own blog. And managers can still ban people from their own blogs to end any trolling. This is also why we added the flagging feature - so that y'all can help Adam find and kick out trolls quickly.

That's something I had wondered about
I can only imagine the possible friction between blogs like "Pinstripe Alley" and "Over the Monster" there might be - that's a good deal, the way you've got it set up though.

Y'all do
Any member of the LSB community will be able to recommend a FanPost. If it receives a certain number (which Adam can adjust) then it makes the list until it's bumped off by new ones.

Does the new layout
require recommended diaries?

by Randy Richardson on Mar 19, 2008 10:38 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

No, it doesn't
If it turns out that they're something LSB doesn't use then Adam can choose to turn that feature off. However, I hope y'all will at least give it a try. It's a cool way to promote posts that a member of the community put a lot of work into and also an easy way to keep an active thread easily accessible.

Another thought: if there's a way to reccomend diaries, there should also be a way to rate down troll diaries like the one's that "Yommomma" character was posting a week or so ago, and send them off to a place where the sun don't shine.

by lonestarJon on Mar 19, 2008 10:59 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

You can flag comments and FanPosts
But flags don't automatically make things go away. A moderator just has that community input to make a decision to remove posts.
