The Former Ranger Update
Fab 5 Freddy Guzman cleared waivers and was outrighted today, much as Chris Shelton cleared waivers and was outrighted over the winter.
Nick Masset, whose inclusion in the Danks/McCarthy deal was the source of some consternation among some Ranger fans who thought he was ready to break out, appears likely to join Guzman on the waiver wire. And since he's already been outrighted once (remember, the Rangers took him off the 40 man roster when he was in AA), if he clears waivers, he can elect to become a free agent.
He got shelled today, and appears to be the South Side Sox version of Rod "Popup" Barajas.
Or the South Side Sox version of R.A. Dickey or Brad Wilkerson, both of whom are mentioned as "key additions" that the Mariners hope will help them beat the Angels this year, in an mlb.com article.
Ramon Nivar, and his game-changing speed, has been released by the Padres.

I don't know if anyone has made this comp before
But does it seem like Joaquin Arias is the new Ramon Nivar?

Who would win a race between ...
- Fab 5 Freddy
- Ramon Nivar
- Ozzie bounding from the dugout to get the ball outta Masset's mitt
- A Barajas batted ball at terminal earthward velocity
- Whiffy's bat unmolested by any spherical resistance whatsoever
- R.A. Dickey rushing postgame to take the blame for the loss, eyes welling with sincerity

Dickey & Wilkey
The Mariners must be pretty crappy this year with those two being "key additions."

Masset is something we can all agree on...
As one of our posters put it today,
[Masset] is one of those truly SSS unifying causes. Its where the upper and lower filled cupped fans meet and have a party.

Didn't you get the memo?
He's got 23 different plus pitches.

OT: Edwin Jackson
I sure wish we would trade Marlon Byrd for him. The Rays are seemingly getting pretty desperate for an OF and are reportedly shopping Jackson.

that would be interesting. if they would go for it
OF on their 40 man:
rocco baldelli (serious health problems)
carl crawford
cliff floyd
fernando perez
jusin ruggiano
bj upton
regardin baldelli:
Rocco Baldelli will be sidelined indefinitely due to metabolic and/or mitochondrial abnormalities that leave him feeling extremely fatigued after even brief workouts.
Baldelli was on the verge of tears several times while discussing the details of what he called a life-threatening condition. "As far as my baseball career I'm not here to stand in front of you telling you I'm retiring,'' Baldelli said. "We're still going pursue any avenue that we can to try to figure out what is going on and have a better understanding of what is going on. But at this time throughout all of the extensive testing that we've done, we don't have a concrete answer." He'll be placed on the disabled list to start the season, and his career seems in jeopardy if Doctors can't diagnose the problem.
sad, sad, sad story. at least hes getting a 4 mil (i think) buy out

Hopefully they can figure out how to fix that problem.

I had heard that about Baldelli
That's too bad, I always kinda liked him. How can you not like a baseball player named Rocco Baldelli?

Who cares
He's a millionaire who is set for life. Plus, he played for another team. He doesn't deserve any sympathy.

Nah, Rocco's cool
He doesn't currently play for one of the evil axis franchises, Boston, NYY, or Angels, so he's cool.

Dude
He described it as life-threatening. How exactly does he not deserve our sympathy?

The more I think abou it
The angrier I get about that (Hench) column. His columns are always generic, uninteresting and unfunny. I encourage everyone to leave feedback to the website so this clown gets disciplined. At the very least he should have the decency to make a public apology to Rocco. Ignoring facts that are available at the time of publication is just bad journalism

I thought it was lawfully decreed that there be no mention of Ramon Nivar without a subsequent reminder that he plays "with his hair on fire."

Masset gets shelled
It's just N-Mass being N-Mass. Maybe mjh can pitch in to pay Masset's salary if the Rangers claim him. On a dollar per pitch in his repertoire, it would be a good deal.
But that river of tears has dried for all of us.

Funniest
thing I ever heard about a player was about Nivar (or Rog from Good Times as we call him). Showalter, in a post-game interveiw was asked about him since he had gotten thrown out at second on what was clearly a single (not the first time). Buck say's "He hit's the ball and runs till he's out"
What?
