Mixed Martial Arts

SPOILER ALERT!!

For those mixed martial arts fans on here, hope you were able to see the fight last night between Brian Stann and Doug Marshall for the WEC light heavyweight championship title.  You can watch the fight Saturday when Versus will re-air it.

Stann is an active duty Marine and was my unit's guest of honor at our Marine Corps Birthday Ball last November.  Stann's had quite a couple of years with a couple of tours to Iraq while earning the Silver Star award during one of those tours all the while continuing to train for MMA fights.

Stann took the title from Marshall last night in only his sixth fight (the deployments obviously is keeping that number low right now) and does not look like he will be giving it up any time soon.  He already owns the record for the quickest knockout  (16 seconds) which came in only his second fight.

I've seen him fight a few times. He certainly has serious power.

But I haven't seen his ground game, at all, that I recall. Is it at least average?

If he doesn't have at least an average ground game he won't last long.

How So?

Being fake?

I don't see it ever turning fake or set up if that is what you are talking about.

I'm surprised his C.O. signed off on that

Really surprised.

Good for him.

Rex Hudler is in demand as a motivational speaker.

I agree

I was offered a scholarship by my umpiring association to Jim Evans' Umpiring Academy and got denied on that. Not the same though, I know.

Good for him though and good for the Marine Corps if he can continue winning.
