A Statement?
How can you make a statement about climate change? That's not something we control. It's like saying 'Turn off you lights for an hour cause we gotta make a statement about Jupiter. It's real, man." Tired of this crap. Let's focus on education of our kids.

it's the same as any other political statement
People are trying to send a message to the government and others that this is what they care about.
How can you make a statement about climate change? That's not something we control.
Clearly a lot of people disagree with you.

suck it up, Irwin
Just saying it's not something you can just treat as fact because you want it to be that way (if you expect to have any kind of reasonable discussion about the issue...)

I may be wrong
I didn't see corbsclinton say anything about making a statement, or climate change. He said something about "being green", but that encompases more than just global climate change.
Increasing efficiency is a good thing. It should be a goal of public and private policy, reducing the demands on our infrastructure, on our pocketbooks, and on the environment (coal mining, oil production and refining, transportation of these fuels, burning of these fuels, it all adds polution to local and regional ecosystems even if you're not into CO2 emmissions as a factor in the global climate).
But hey, if your lights on, be my guest. Show those conservation nazis who's boss. Go on vacation and leave your 55 inch plasma TV on, that'll learn 'em.

One would think
a message about increasing efficiency would be like a message about diet and exercise being good for you. Boring and noncontroversial.
