CJ Wilson just gave up a 2 run bomb to Konerko
He didn't seem like himself his last outing, and apparently, he's still not himself today. Sheesh...
I've been listening on MLB radio
which happens to be free for this game
The two runs on Danks in the first came on "a slow dribbler" that some guy named Royce Huffman was unable to field.

CJ is throwing at 89 MPH with the fastball?
Ummm... is it just me, or is that not too good? I hope that's not what he's topping out at.
They only update every 20 seconds or so
aren't you glad I included the link now? ;)

We got Dustin Nippert
" Winning doesn't always mean being first,
winning means you are doing better than you have done before"
Nippert
Here's his baseball reference page:
http://www.baseball-reference.com/n/nippedu01.shtml
And Jose Marte:
Nippert was out of options, so i guess they trade rather than release
how are options effected by trade? can we not send him to the minors? is this our last bullpen guy then?
I don't know
But this doesn't make sense if we have to put him on the 25... unless of course, we're sying sayonara to Robbie Tejeda. Zywica? Adam?
He hasn't had much ML success, but he's got some insane K numbers in the minors... 534 K's in 545.1 IP (to 207 BB).
My guess
He is the last guy in the bullpen, and Tejeda hits the waiver wire.

Yeah
This just seems like swapping one hard-thrower for another...
Here's Nippert's spring training stats this year, if anyone's interested... pretty miserable:
I like what
Wash has done with the lineup the last couple of games. Both were/are against LHP. He is getting them ready to face Bedard.

OT -- UT wins
against Stanford.
" Winning doesn't always mean being first,
winning means you are doing better than you have done before"
Little Davidson wins also...
"My death certificate will probably say: 'Cause of Death: World Series.'" Jamey Newberg
No S***!!!!!!!
Great! I don't give a rat's patootey about college BB, but this story is interesting to follow. I have heard much about them, fighting insomnia & listening to D Stizzle throughout the night.
OT-Anyone heard the new Moby drop? Pretty great, house mix-it-up. Still has the the Moby grooves/touches.
...it's the weekend, so why the hell not?
Boy, Franklyn German hasn't looked so hot his last few outings
He just barely squeaked out of that inning.
Nippert quotes
The 26-year-old Nippert was 1-1 with a 5.56 ERA for the Diamondbacks last season but struggled this spring, posting an 0-2 mark with a 14.40 ERA in eight appearances. Nippert surrendered 24 hits in 10 innings with 14 walks and eight strikeouts.
"This was the most frustrating spring I've had so far ,so hopefully I can go there and start new," Nippert said.
It was a newsworthy day for Nippert, whose wife Carrie gave birth to a daughter, Aubrey Faith, early Friday morning.
"It's a little bit overwhelming," Nippert said. "There are a lot of emotions. They traded for me so I know they wanted me."
If Nippert makes the club, he'll fill the final roster spot still up for grabs. Right-handers Wes Littleton and Robinson Tejeda had been competing for the final place in the bullpen. Littleton was scheduled to pitch for the Rangers against the Chicago White Sox on Friday in Oklahoma City.
Marte was 4-4 with a 5.23 pitching in Class A ball last season.
"There are a lot of emotions"
In that, I really feel for the guy. He must be a jumble of mess right now.
Here's to one of the better talents in baseball getting back on the right track...for...Your Texas Rangers!
...it's the weekend, so why the hell not?
Damn, Rupe is getting knocked around good this inning
No thanks to Nelson Curz, of course, but the White Sox are having a field day on Rupe.
Things change
Of course, I could be entirely incorrect.
;)
...it's the weekend, so why the hell not?
Mench in the game in LF
Hope he gets used to playing in OKC... 'cause I'm hoping that's where he stays this year.
I
would prefer Mench to Cat or Byrd, and borderline with Murphy.
The Texas Rangers rounded the bases at a dizzying pace
You
are about to find out that Bryd can't hit anything. Great guy and decent defense, but can't hit.
Mench was also a clubhouse fav. before though.
The Texas Rangers rounded the bases at a dizzying pace
LOL
Good point, I agree. But Byrd's defensive ability and throwing arm still make him a more valuable commodity than a right-handed hitting lefty-crusher, IMO.
Well
.270 career against RHP, .282 against LHP... so he's not like Gerald Laird, but yeah, he's much more effective against LHP. My mistake.
If Tejeda was going to be DFA'd..
would they have him in now? What if he's lights out wouldn't that make him more attractive to potential suitors?
That leads me to believe he's not the one getting DFA'd.
I hereby ordain you Benny Brou Ha Ha<-----Wash thinks you can hit lefties....in 2 months time you will be a full fledged Brouhaha..trust me on that one.
Well
Who gets the hatchet, then? We have to fit Nippert on the 40 somehow... I kinda wanted to see more of Tejeda, but this trade makes me think the Rangers don't share my sentiment.
Rupe
can go back down. Has not been great in ST, and what we just saw showsthat Rupe staying up is not worth giving up on Tejeda, when Rupe can go back to AAA.
The Texas Rangers rounded the bases at a dizzying pace
Yes
But that still doesn't clear a spot on the 40-man for Nippert. Remember, we have to fit German, Wright, Melhuse and now Nippert on the 40-man roster somehow.
Two spots can be opened by DFA'ing Cruz, and putting Rheinecker on the 60-day DL, and another posibly opened by putting Thomas Diamond on the 60-day DL... but I don't know how the Rangers could open a fourth, unless they DFA Tejeda.
I
did not think of that. Drew Meyer pops in my head. :-) What would you think. Tejeda?
The Texas Rangers rounded the bases at a dizzying pace
You mean Metcalf?
Meyer isn't on the 40, far as I know.
I wouldn't mind seeing maybe Metcalf or Joaquin Arias getting cut, since they might get through waivers, but I doubt the Rangers would do that... tell you who I'd like to see cut is Frank Catalanotto, but that won't happen.
I don't really see
why Metcalf needs to be protected on the 40 when things get tight. I think that he's one of the least likely guys on the roster to make you notice that you lost him.

Agree
Jason Cole had a recent update on German Duran behind his pay firewall, so I didn't read it all. But the free teaser paragraph made it sound like he's really working out at 3b leading up to the start of play. Maybe they're just boning Duran up to serve as Blalock's emergency depth because they're about to chuck Metcalf.
I strongly disagree about
Metcalf. He may never be a starter but I think he will eventually make some team as a 3B/1B maybe OF back up. As for Duran, I think he will be starting at 3B in OKC while Metcalf is on the DL. Of everyone on the 40, I think Arias has the least value. Arias and Feldman would probably clear waivers if DFA'd.

You want
Metcalf getting 1B and corner OF at bats for your team? I sure don't.
by Brett Perryman on Mar 28, 2008 10:52 PM CDT up reply actions
There are worse back ups.
He might fit in well on a NL team is he learned 1B and the OF. A lot of pinch hitting and such in real baseball.

Okay
One of those awesome real baseball teams in the NL can clog up their roster with him.

I
thought meyer was on the 40-man. My bad. I have not looked that up in a long time. Just go by memory from reading. Arias and Metcalf have value to us IMO. Cat could easily be traded or Byrd to make room.
The Texas Rangers rounded the bases at a dizzying pace
Wonder if
German could potentially lose his spot?
by Brett Perryman on Mar 28, 2008 10:04 PM CDT up reply actions
then
they're kind of lacking on the hard throwing strikeout guy, right? last year you had benoit and francisco. i guess it could be tejeda, but i liked the idea of german coming in, throwing fastballs, getting out
But
That's exactly what Nippert and Tejeda are.
German's control problems have kinda been resurfacing his last couple outings this spring - I don't see the rush to put him on the club, myself.
+ 1

I don't think that
German is much more reliable than Tejeda (or Nippert for that matter). He's had a good spring, but he walked 46 guys in 59 innings and had a WHIP of 1.52 in AAA last year.

littleton
I guess littleton made his case to make the team.
