Orioles Release Jay Gibbons
Wow. I didn't see this coming.
The Orioles have released Jay Gibbons, who was to serve a suspension at the start of this season for PEDs, and who is owed $11.5 million for 2008 and 2009.
The Orioles signed him to a 4 year contract extension in January, 2006, and I said at the time it was a classic example of a bad team handing out a bad deal.
I imagine Gibbons will end up getting a minor league deal with someone, and may make it back somewhere as a lefty bench bat, but this is an ugly pill for the O's to have to swallow...

good for Gibbons
He pounded the HGH, had a good season and cashed in...
I'm sure Baltimore truly feels blessed by the guaranteed contracts
Adam, after reading
the 1-24-06 post, that was a well deserved pat on the back.

Braun and Tulo
There are practically no similarities b/w those guys and Gibbons. I would happily lock either up.
Fire Ron Washington
Gibbons
He was an old, mediocre guy close to free agency.
Tulowitzki and Braun are very young, legitimately great players well away from free agency.
Completely different situations.
