Evan Grant with some stuff
Evan Grant has a weather report from Seattle, and grouses about baseball having Opening Day in cold weather cities.
He's also looking for newsletter questions, so click here to hit him up with some good ones.

Huh
One opening day game in Arlington in the last 7 years? That's kind of a screwing.
So what are folks plans for the beginning of the season? I'm heading to NY Fri night/Sat morning to see the Yankees on Sun (I hate the Yanks, but thought I should see the stadium before they tear it down) then take the train to Boston to see their home opener on Tues. What are other people doing?
What happened to my old signature?
Id feel bad for MLB
except that guys like Tom Hicks always sell their opening day games to other cities for a good bit of cash. Hicks has done this for years which is why we never have the opening day game.
cant feel sorry for baseball when thats why they play in cold cities early.
.500 or bust!
its a long known fact, we talked about it a couple years ago on NMLR
when every1 flipped out over there on the same topic.
i thought every1 new that...
its the reason we havent had a home opener in 7 years. that isnt on MLB, im pretty sure they alternate, (ie if u didnt have a home opener this year you have one next). unless your team owner sells it every year he has it...
.500 or bust!
Jamey or Adam
would know the exact details better than i do, im pretty sure thats the way it works though...
.500 or bust!
Ummm no
Ive heard Hicks numerous times talk about they have complained to the commisioners office and it should be resolved in the future. I have never heard about Hicks selling the opener to another city. Provide a link and I will believe it but until then that sounds false to me.
I can't imagine
any owner turning down what could well be nationwide coverage of a game and opening day revenues. Anyway if it came out then it would be even a bigger message of pissing on the fans than normal.
Yeah, we traded any chance of you getting an opening day game for some cash for my pocket. Now lets talk about ticket price hikes.
Thing is...
Seems like Hicks would always want the opener at home if possible. If the Rangers open at home at the start of the season, excitement is high and the stands will be packed. If the Rangers go 1-5 on the season-opening road trip, that might hurt attendance for the home opener a little bit.
I doubt it
Home opener is usually sold out, or close to it, before the season starts.

Home Openers
During one of the spring training games that was televised, Josh and Tom had JD in the booth and he complained about it so I doubt if Hicks was in fact doing this that he would have complained about MLB not giving Texas any home openers on opening day.
you provide a link
ive never heard hicks complain, and we talked about this 2 years ago, and 3 years ago...
wheres ur link about him complaining?
im pretty sure its never been reported that they sell the home opener, but i also trust the newberg guys when it was discussed at the time.
.500 or bust!
he heard him complaining
even if we believe both of you, all you have is some guys talking about it (maybe) 2 years ago and him actually hearing hicks say he's complainign. I think you shoudl ahve to be provide proof
From what I understand...
....certain teams will make requests to be home on certain days -- Boston, for example, always plays a morning game at home on Patriot's Day -- but it generally comes down from MLB.
Texas has not had many home openers lately, but they are almost always at home on July 4, and I think that's one of those trade-off things.

walkoffwalk
Here's the M's lineup.
CF Ichiro
2B Jose Lopez
LF Raul Ibanez
1B Richie Sexson
3B Adrian Beltre
RF Brad Wilkerson
DH Jose Vidro
C Kenji Johjima
SS Yuniesky Betancourt
Meh. Underwhelming.
What happened to my old signature?
Doh
That looks like a barely 4 runs per game offense there, especially in that ball park.
Other than 3rd base is there anyone that you would switch position for position with us. Well maybe Sexson for Broussard.
Are you nuts?
Sexon is terrible. He is a big oaf that has less defensive skills than Jason Botts has. Sexon has very little pop in his bat lately and I wouldnt be suprised if he is out of baseball in a couple years. Id much rather have Broussard.
Adam loves him some Lard
Sexson had one bad season
Before that he was a 30/100 lock. hes had 100 rbis 6 times to broussards 0. his career ops is 76 points higher.
Granted broussard hasnt played a full season, but theres a reason for that.
I would take sexson over broussard.
Look at his K:BB ratio, its terrible.
Im sorry but Im one to not just look at his HR and RBI totals. To me he has alwways looked out of place at first base. I really think Broussard has the better year.
Adam loves him some Lard
then how about
How about a 850+ OPS for most of his career? Sexson was an above average 1b for most of his career, at least offensively. Broussard hasn't ever done that over a full MLB Season.
well screw them both
where the hell is Davis. Im sure he could preform better then both those guys.
Adam loves him some Lard
God
I picked that mess to win the division?
And with the 22nd overall selection the Dallas Cowboys select Jonathan Stewart.
Kinsler's out. Uh oh...
Ian Kinsler's got a cold. Will be out for opening day.
http://rangersblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2008/03/kinsler-out.html
so now
2007 stats
Vazquez - .483 ops vs lefties
Young - .797 ops vs lefties
Hamilton - .588 ops vs lefties
Blalock - .796 ops vs lefties, but bad for career
+ broussard 9th. and in safeco.
Millwood is going to have to show up big for any chance at this one.
and not just any lefty either
I'm really excited about the Rangers this year, but I can't help but be pessimistic about today's game. Bedard is a beast.
Stupid Indians...
Must be cheating with some kind of coded lighting system in CF. There is no way anyone could score runs on Mark Buerhle.... according to Mark Buerhle
