Noah Lowry hurt
Noah Lowry has been diagnosed with tendinitis in his hand, and is going back to the Bay Area to see a hand specialist.
That helps explain yesterday's disastrous outing.
For whatever reason, Lowry is one of those pitchers who gets mentioned in connection with the Rangers a lot. Rangers fans seem to think the Rangers should go after him, and a Jim Callis chat comment this offseason suggesting that a Kinsler for Lowry deal would make sense for both teams got some praise from Rangers fans.
But Noah Lowry isn't that good, folks. Just because a guy is a lefty groundball pitchers doesn't mean the Rangers should give anything up for him. Look at his peripherals the last two years, and tell me why the Rangers would want to give up anything of significant value for him...

Lowry
Lowry can get away with that in San Francisco. In Texas, that's an automatic 6.00 ERA.

I think he is referencing
At least I think that is what he was talking about.
Ummm, no.
The exchange in question:
SportsNation Jim Callis: (2:11 PM ET ) Texas needs pitching, San Francisco needs hitting, would make sense for both sides."
Texas needs pitching...
Trading Ian Kinsler for Noah Lowry would be like the Blue Jays trading us Michael Young for Esteban Loazia.

A couple years ago I would have said
But now that I look at some stats I am just fine with seeing what we have in Kason and in a year seeing Harrison in the rotation.
Fun Fact: "Drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 19th round of the 1999 amateur draft, but did not sign."
Didnt know that, did you?

Lowry
I don't think BB & K are the end-all-be-all for a pitcher either, but any pitcher who walks as many as he strikes out generally isn't a very good pitcher.
Lowry also pitches in a very pitcher-friendly park, and in the weaker league- see Chris Young for how moving from Rangers Ballpark to an extreme pitcher's park in the NL will shave a run off one's ERA.
I'd have a hard time seeing Lowry putting up anything under a 5.00 ERA in Texas.
Actually
I probably think more...
No thanks
Until last year, Noah's BB9 has been only slightly above average. The big jump in 2007 could have been elbow trouble related. And despite a WHIP of 1.55 he managed a 3.92 ERA.
question:
for me, no.
i think that duran could be the solution to the util/supersub player for the rangers in a few years.
if duran can be wilson betimit i would be happy.
in other news, betemit is 26 this year. damn. seems like hes been around forever
